"My choices were a little limited due to COVID crisis, but contacted 2 highest rated companies on Angie's. First was a small firm who was booked thru the Fall. Alliance has several crews and were able to get to us quickly. First visit was great (David), who provided the quote, alternatives, samples, pictures & addresses of previous work. Price was reasonable. Crew started a couple of weeks later. Very professional and courteous crew of three. Once they show up, they stay to finish the job. Separate gutter crew came shortly after siding was done. Cost was $28,000 for a 2 story cape with shake siding. We love the shake look compared to traditional horizontal siding, esp for a cape house. We highly recommend Alliance."

"The windows were manufactured earlier than we expected and we were promptly contacted about installation. Although we were told the installation was scheduled for two days, the four man crew that arrived was able to finish in a single day! Each window was installed with the same consistency in quality and efficiency. Furthermore, the crew did an excellent job protecting our floors and furnishings in every room. When it comes to evaluating the installation crew, we couldn't be happier. Regarding price, we probably paid more than we should, but that's on us. "Dave answered the phone the first time I called and arrived right when he said he would for an estimate. He looked at my leaking chimney flashing and gave me a quote to fix the issue right on the spot. He was also honest with me and told me how to repair it myself if I wanted as it wasn't that difficult. I asked for a ballpark estimate to replace the entire roof since it will need to be done within a couple of years and he provided one. At the outset, they made thorough assessments of our family's barn, identifying several problem areas and offering multiple proposals for how best to address each (including strategies and estimates).  They walked through the different proposals with us, addressing all questions and discussing different options.  This was extremely constructive and important to the process. 

They demonstrated very clear understanding of post-and-beam wood construction.  They displayed great expertise in working with wood (white oak, red oak, hemlock) and with the tools, jacks and cribbing needed for this work.  They worked carefully, always putting in place the necessary jacks and cribbing in advance of each phase of this project.

They were clear about their schedule and were very responsible about communicating with us.  If there were a day that they would not be on site, they let us know ahead of time.  With the exception of a snow storm and an illness, they were on site five days a week from the first week in January till the second week in February, 2016.  

By the completion of this project, Colonial Restorations had made significant and important structural repairs to our barn.  This work was done with care, craft, accuracy, and to code.  (All elements of this project were examined and passed by the building inspector.)  Most important, these repairs respected and worked with the existing structure and materials of the barn.
