"Johnnyâ s did a great grinding a difficult stump - very close to asphalt drive and gas line. I had used excavator to remove several others but grinding was the only option with this stump. Price was very reasonable. Communications before starting the job was very good. Removal and clean-up was done in an excellent manner. Highly recommend."

"Expert knowledge, responsive, fair pricing, and great customer service! We hired them to trim our arborvitaes, maple trees, and pear trees throughout our property. GB and his team were all fantastic to work with - friendly and happy to answer any questions we had regarding the project. From the initial quote to the final cleanup - we were completely satisfied. We'll definitely be calling back for more landscape work in the future! Thank you GB!!"

"I originally hired Travers to remove an old pool that was in disrepair when I bought my house. From there I tacked on other projects including tree removal, brush/overgrowth clearing, and regrading and seeding. Each project came out exceptional. Travers will be my first call if I need more work done in the future."

Brush Chipping questions, answered by experts

No, it’s not necessary to remove all the leaves from your lawn—in fact, leaving some behind can be beneficial. While it's important to clear thick layers of leaves that can smother your grass, leaving a light scattering of leaves can help feed your soil while also providing safe winter habitat for pollinators like bumble bees. Leftover leaves will eventually break down, enriching the soil and promoting healthy lawn growth.

Lazy composting involves putting leaves, grass clippings, and plant trimmings in a corner of your yard and letting nature take its course. There is no turning, watering, or balancing green and brown materials. It’s a low-effort, long-term approach that can take up to one or two years to create finished compost. It is perfect for gardeners who don’t mind waiting and want a no-fuss way to repurpose organic waste.

You can leave grass clippings on the lawn, depending on their length. You don’t want to completely cover new grass and block it from sunlight, or encourage moss crowd out the more delicate grass. However, short clippings are usually fine to leave on the lawn. In some cases, they can be beneficial: Clippings can be a source of fertilizer and help protect the ground as young grass blades develop.

While you can leave roots in the ground, if you don’t want the shrub to regrow again over time, it’s best not to leave any roots behind. Ensure you remove as much of the shrub as possible, including the root ball and any main roots you can see, to prevent new growth. Some gardeners opt for using a chemical treatment to prevent the stump from growing back, but this can kill beneficial microorganisms living in your soil.

If you have a large number of leftover roots, shrub branches, rocks, and soil to remove from your stump removal project, you may need to call a professional junk removal service. A small truckload of junk removal costs between $75 and $125 to haul away. You may also have a free composting center in your area where you can haul the materials on your own.
