Dolphus Bannister started Bannister Electric LLC in 2002 after learning the electrical trade via 15 years of hands on experience and graduating from The National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee in 2001. From humble beginnings, Bannister Electric has grown into a well respected commercial and residential electrical company serving all of North Louisiana. Dolphus Received his Louisiana state electrical license in 2004 and in 2009 he decided that solar was a bright star on the horizon, and he added his Louisiana solar installation license that same year. In 2010, Bannister Electric expanded for the 3rd time and the office and warehouse is now located at 1510 Tim Street in West Monroe. Dolphus was joined in the office by his sister Shannon Bannister Jordan in 2007. In 2010, Dolphus and Shannon were joined by their brother Danny Bannister. Danny started learning the solar and energy efficiency business in 2009 and took on the position of sales manager and solar designer for Bannister Electric. In 2011, Bannister Electric LLC formed Bannister Solar & Energy Solutions to improve market awareness and name recognition within the solar arena. Our installation and design team now has better than 60 solar installations to its credit. This experience along with extensive electrical knowledge is a tremendous asset to our customers. Starting in 2012 Bannister Solar & Energy Solutions expanded its product line to include Sun Shield Solar Screens, Solar Attic Ventilation and In Home Energy Audits. Bannister Solar & Energy Solutions has evolved into not only a supplier and installer of residential solar systems, but into an energy efficiency consulting service. Our consulting services include residential and commercial energy audits that inform the customer what changes need to be made in order to substantially improve energy efficiency, while providing the data to back it up. Our goal is not to sell you a product, our goal is to improve the efficiency of your existing structure, or help you build the most energy efficient new structure possible, while continually weighting cost versus benefits. Moving forward, Bannister Solar & Energy Solutions will continue to seek new products and methods to improve the energy efficiency of existing and new residential and commercial property. Rising energy cost will become a significant concern for many, and Bannister Solar & Energy Solutions has positioned itself to address these concerns today and in the future.

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

Dehumidifiers typically use 300 to 700 watts of electricity per hour, whereas portable dehumidifiers use about 40 watts per hour. The exact amount of electricity your dehumidifier will generate depends on its capacity and energy efficiency. Generally, higher-capacity dehumidifiers generate more electricity than lower-capacity units, but they also usually have better energy efficiency over the long run.

Setting your AC unit to 78 degrees can, indeed, help you save energy. In fact, according to experts, every degree you turn the unit up could save you between 1% and 3% on your energy bills. That said, turning your unit off entirely while you’re out might actually be less efficient than keeping it on at a higher temperature. Why? The unit will need to work extra hard to cool the house back off again after all those hot hours.

Energy-efficient windows cost more than other window types, but they can help you save on your monthly energy bills, get you some breaks on your taxes, and even increase the value of your home. According to Michael S. Regan, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, when people invest in green upgrades like energy-efficient windows, they save energy, money, and more.

Hawaii is currently rated as the most expensive state for utilities. How much are utilities for a house in Hawaii? With electricity costs in Hawaii totaling nearly 42 cents per kilowatt-hour, residents are paying more to run their households than any other residents. Electricity costs in Hawaii are so high, mostly due to the fact that most of the electricity available to residents is produced using oil that must be shipped in from other places.

While many states require all new construction to undergo blower door tests, it’s not a requirement for existing homes. But in both cases, a blower test helps confirm that the contractor has sealed the exterior, that the type of ductwork installed is functioning properly, and that your home is as efficient as possible.
