A satellite dish should face south with a view unobstructed by trees, branches, leaves, buildings, or other structures or objects. The optimal angle offset is between 22.3 degrees and 17.3 degrees. Any more or less of an angle can disrupt or disconnect the cable signal from the satellite sources to the south. This depends on your provider, but generally, no you do not have to return your dish satellite once you’ve canceled your service. Your best bet is to take the dish to an appropriate recycling center, arrange for a junk removal service to come pick it up, or even rent a dumpster.
Most people install satellite dishes on the roof so its path is unobstructed by trees, branches or buildings. However, a spot on a garage, deck, patio, or on the ground that has nothing blocking the dish will also work. The dish must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions without falling over or tilting the dish out of the optimal angle offset.
