caulk that they missed. And after the 3rd visit, rather than call them back a 4th time, I removed some caulk that they?d missed on the 3rd try. Each time they came back to remove some more caulk, there was moisture trapped behind the caulk resulting in more delays while I placed a space heater in the shower to dry it out over night.
They didn?t have the proper tools so I had to loan them the tools I?ve used. Instead of vacuuming up all the removed caulk remnants, they used a paint brush to sweep it up but not until they had finished. Hence, their traffic to/from their truck left a trail of caulk remnants through the house. They didn?t have a shop vac.
Finally, after a week of not being able to use the shower, they finished the new caulk application on 4/18 in about 1 hour. Because I wanted to use the best caulk, they mistakenly bought a Dap 3.0 caulk that they had no experience with. I would?ve used silicon. Unfortunately, this caulk is extremely difficult to apply and can only be smoothed and/or removed with mineral spirits. Apparently, they hadn't read the manufacturer's instructions and tried to smooth it with water and their finger. That made a mess of all the joints because the caulk behaved like glue. The caulk was all over the shower surround, floor, glass enclosure and threshold carpet. They had to leave to buy some mineral spirits and spent the next 2 -3 hours removing the overage and mess.
After they left, we discovered that they must?ve tried to wash the caulk off of their hands in both of our bathroom lavatories because there were small spots of adhered caulk all over the inside of our lavatories and on the faucet handles. We also found caulk on our bedroom door handle.
The following is an update based on further communications with Calvins.
I sent the original report to Calvins resulting in an inspection by their General Manager. He decided to redo the work, removing most of the first applied caulk and recaulking. They also cleaned off excess caulk from various surfaces. That work was completed 5/2 to my satisfaction. I?ve updated their scores to reflect this follow-up work & corrected the Use Again from NO to YES.
I will use Calvin's Maintenance again.
