Cajun Maintenance sent their master plumber to give me a free quote.  He came back the next day to discuss and quote other options I wanted to discuss.  He was very friendly, respectful and well-mannered.  Between the plumber and phone calls to the manager, they answered a lot of very detailed questions for me, making sure I had all of the information I wanted.  Once I made a decision, they installed it within two business days.  My old water heater was partially working, so I did not have to ask for a rush on the job.  The plumber arrived at the exact time he said he would and had the whole project complete within 3 hours.  I had called a few other plumbers and their starting prices for the project were the same or more than the price Cajun Maintenance gave me.

Overall we were satisfied by the positive outcome of not having to replace the carpeting. The continual noise 24/7 from the air movers and equipment that operated during the restoration was annoying but unavoidable. One interesting observation was made at the office of UFWDR when  I went there to pay the bill on job completion. I was invited to tour the facility and observed a specially constructed area that included partial walls that simulated a room including batt insulation and wall board in the partial walls. This area was used for workforce training and also as a demonstration area to educate realtors and others in the building trades so that they would have an appreciation of the technology used to rectify water damage.

THIS WAS A FIASCO.  During the time the machines were in the house, we were not able to be there because of the high temperatures generated by the machines.  Although we were assured they would have someone check the house and the machines every day, it was evident that the machines had caused a breaker to be thrown.  We had never been told of this problem and only figured it out when we returned to the house and saw the butter in the refridgerator had melted all the way down the door and pooled in the lower shelves.......I assumed that if this had happened, then all the food in the refridgerator must have ruined, but no one bothered to tell us.  We could have gotten quite sick if we had used the food.

After we were told the drying process was complete and that the company had used their "metering machines" to determine the absence of moisture, we checked for ourselves and found pools of water on the ceiling sheetrock in many places and wet insulation in many places.  We brought this to the attention of the owner, but he refused to reimburse us any of the down payment and blamed us for everything from not having the insulation installed correctly to having the wrong insulation.  HE HAD INSPECTED THE INSULATION AND ALL THE AREAS OF THE HOUSE BEFORE MAKING THE PROMISES THAT HE COULD DRY THE SHEETROCK, ETC.  We ultimately had to remove all the sheetrock and the insulation.

Had we trusted this business and not checked out the situation after the drying process was SUPPOSED to have been done, mold and mildew would have grown like wild fire in the house and it would have ultimately been a hazard to us personally and would have significantly damaged the value of our home.

United Fire and Water was dishonest in their business dealings and certainly did not care about the problems we could have in the future.  I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM AND HOPE YOU WILL NOT USE THEM.

"This home was dried in its entirety - except for the improperly installed BATT insulation in the attic space. The homeowner had installed the BATT insulation with vapor barrier facing down - on the cool drywall. The warm airspace in the attic will condensate on a vapor barrier that has cool temps below it. We never even thought to check the vapor side of the insulation because we have never seen it installed improperly in an attic space like this before. The insulation was DRY - There was however condensation below the batt on the improperly installed VAPOR barrier. Every other structural component of this loss was dry - sheetrock, joists, studs, baseboard and hardwood flooring - all returned to normal moisture content levels without any need for replacement. The machines are windy and somewhat noisy - there is no way around this. And heat plays a HUGE role in our ability to get a structure dry - just like a dyer for your clothes has hot air, or a kiln has hot air to dry pottery, or your blow dryer has hot air to dry your hair - we NEED heat to dry structural components. She and her husband were in Texas basically the entire time that we were on site. So I am not sure what her complaint about being out of the house is about. They left because they had too. [removed member name]was not interested in our explanation (we even went so far as to hire a structural engineer to verify our findings) no matter what we did to try to satisfy her.
