When they called to tell me the vacuum was ready to be picked up, he said the cost was $81.96, which was disappointing, since I never got a call from them, and had not agreed to anything near that amount. Then the repairman told me that the vacuum's bearings were worn and it could 'go out' and he couldn't guarantee how long it would work...another good reason for them to call me and give me this information along with the inflated estimate. I had not agreed to any of this. The invoice showed the filters were $34.20 and $5.99, which was a lot more than estimated, which was disappointing.
The worst part of the story is that when I used the vacuum for the first time at home, it made the same loud noise that I had brought it in for, and after vacuuming a small part of a room, it stopped working completely, and had an odd, burnt smell.
I called the next business day to tell them what happened, but the owner offered no encouragement, and said he had told me about the bearings. I was offered no concessions, no offer to bring in the machine to see if they could help. He was not interested in whether he had done a good job, if I was a satisfied customer, whether this was a fair business practice.
This company showed extremely poor business ethics in my case, aside from the fact that they agreed to call me before doing work that cost over twice the estimate. If they had, I would have had the option to decide not to repair the machine.
