New laptop. Another shop said it was a bad hard disk and then kept it, didn't fix it and took so long that I finally had to pick it up, unrepaired. I dropped in at ACOM. He looked at it; found a bad connection and incorrect setting; and reconnected it promptly while I was there. No problem. The key was just opening it up and looking at it.
It seemed a lucky find, realistically, another person probably would have to leave it there for repair. The good news is that they look, know what they are looking and fix it. Next time I will go to ACOM.
