"There was a good deal of back and forth in negotiating the contract. But in the end, Mr. Snyder completed the work promptly. Because the repair was for a roof leak I wonâ t know how effective the repair was until the next couple of rains. However, based on what I have seen the repair appears to be complete and well done. For that reason, while I rated both the â work quality â and â value for the money â categories as excellent, the jury is still out."

Standafer Roofing, Inc. is a locally owned, family operated business with 15 years of experience in the roofing trade. We currently use NO SUB-CONTRACTORS, a rarity in today's marketplace. \n\nBenefit: 1) Our pricing is very competitive. (We have no middleman to pay!)\n 2) You can rest assured that you have no exposure for liability resulting from an uninsured \n contractor performing work on your property. (While many reputable companies carry workers\n compensation and general liability coverage, many sub-contractors do not.)\n 3) We have a vested interest in quality and your satisfaction! (The people performing the work \n on your home are the people responsible should something unexpected occur. Our\n personal reputation, as well as our liability insurance rates, are at stake. We suffer if you\n are made to suffer.)\n 4)Our owner is on-site working alongside the crew every day! (Old habits are hard to break \n and we just can't seem to get him to stop!) \n\nThese are just a few of the reasons that you will be guaranteed the utmost concern for quality of workmanship, not to mention our heightened concern for your property and safety. \n\nA home is typically the largest purchase most of us make in a lifetime. It, and the things around it, deserve to be treated with care and respect. We will do our best to treat your property as you would. We make things right if things go wrong, (which they rarely do). (We once drove 25 miles to remove a thumbprint of dirt from a homeowners garden hose!!) \n\nWhether you need a repair or a brand new roof, you can depend on Standafer Roofing for an honest opinion, an honest price, and a meaningful guarantee. \n\nHere are some of the reasons you might call us:\n-A free estimate\n-A short-term patch or a guaranteed repair (emergency or non-emergency)\n-Afraid of heights? Too busy? We will come out and clean your gutters, install gutter screen (not gutter guard), remove branches after storms, fix shingles that are not laying down properly (usually a nail is popped up underneath and just needs to be knocked back down), replace shingles that have blown off, etc.\n-Install additional vents or skylights. (This increases the life of your existing roof, and improves your homes heating and cooling efficiency)\n-Replace your existing roof, or possibly "lay-over" your old one, in some instances. (Some homeowners request that an estimate is given to do both, so that they may compare the cost savings. This is done at your request only and only if quality is not sacrificed to do so).\n\nEven if you just have a question, call us. We will do our best to answer it. We love roofing so much we'll talk about it for free!\n\nStandafer Roofing- "For Roofs that Stand the Test of Time"\n

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, reputable manufacturers typically provide warranties for their roof windows and skylights, and many installers also offer a labor warranty, although labor warranties often don’t last as long as the manufacturer’s warranty. A warranty from a skylight manufacturer is helpful in the event of leaks or other damage down the road on this type of home feature. The length of time and the terms of the warranty may vary, so it's important to review the details before making a purchase.

In most cases, installing skylights will add value to your home, making them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners. Buyers are often attracted to the aesthetic appeal of skylights, as they make rooms feel brighter, airier, and more spacious by introducing natural light without compromising privacy. Beyond aesthetics, skylights can offer monetary benefits by potentially reducing energy bills. Additionally, models that can be opened provide extra ventilation, which is particularly useful in hotter climates for allowing accumulated hot air to escape from the ceiling. However, the return on investment depends on several factors. To maximize value, it's crucial that the skylights are installed by an experienced professional to avoid risks like water damage, which can deter savvy buyers. Regular maintenance and cleaning are also important. Furthermore, choosing the right frame and glazing materials for your specific climate will enhance their performance and appeal. While skylights are generally seen as an asset, homeowners should also consider the initial cost, which averages around $1,500 for installation.

Skylights are the most likely windows to leak if installed improperly, so there are a few questions you should ask any skylight installer before you hire them:

  • Do you specialize in skylight installation or only windows in general?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for the installation?

  • What recourse do I have if the skylight leaks shortly after installation?

  • Do you have references I can speak with?

  • How long have you been in business?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.

While it is possible to install a skylight as a DIY project, it is not recommended. Skylights are the most likely type of window to leak due to their position on the roof. Even minor mistakes during installation can lead to significant water damage and high repair costs. Additionally, working on a roof is dangerous, especially when maneuvering heavy, bulky windows. Due to the required roof modifications and the need for proper sealing and structural safety, hiring a professional skylight installer is strongly advised to avoid costly long-term issues.
