It went absolutely perfect. The service and price was quick and fair.
Description of Work: We received two estimates for the same work; one from Mr Roof, the other from Middletown Roofing. Both sent out estimators who climbed on the roof to inspect the problem. The problem was water leaking from the ceiling of out porch. Mr Roof measured the roof incline. The estimator said the problem was caused by helicoper seedlings that blew from the trees last fall. and stated they had worked their way under the asphalt shingles which allowed water to stream under them causing the leak. They also stated the roof incline was not high enough for shingles, and should be replaced with rolled roofing material. Their repair would consist of reroofing the entire portion from the egde ot the porch to the roof line: approximately 40 x 30 sq. ft. We received a written cost estimate of $5100.00. We said we would think about it. He gathered his papers to leave, then said "Oh, I forgot to get you to sign it." We said we would not sign until we received furtjer estimates. He politely thanked us and left. Middletown Roofing came after. The estimator took measurements, and came down and said the problem was the valley on the left backside; that water was coming under the shingles, rotting the plywood, and then coming under the rolled underlayment and exiting through the porch ceiling. His estimate was ffour hours work to remove two courses of asphalt shingles, the rolled underlayment, and one piece of 4' x 8' plywood. The rest of the work was reversing the procedure with new materials. The work took two hours and forty-five minutes. We waited for the next big rain to see if the repair was good. It was. No leaks. They sent us an invoice. We wrote a check, included a thank you for their professionalism, and mailed it.

I received a very brief message on my home answering machine stating that the company didn't install the brand of roofing I initially inquired about. My impression was that they weren't interested in opening a dialogue to discuss other material options or provide suggestions on such, and generally overall the caller sounded like he was just making an obligatory contact and really had no interest in my job.

When I called to request an estimate, they were able to schedule a time within a week. The estimator was very professional and spent plenty of time analyzing the roof and then going over our options. They said that they could get to the job within 2-4 weeks, and we agreed on a price and the type of shingles. The workers were scheduled to arrive on a Wednesday, so I made time to be at home. Unfortunately, they did not arrive until 5:00pm that day, and were not able to finish the job. They completed about half the work Wednesday evening and then came back the next morning to finish the job. Because I had plans in the evening and the next morning, I was unable to watch the work. However, we have not had any leaks. There is a soft spot still in the roof, but I was told that this is related to needing more joist support near the chimney and that they would not be able to fix that. I was disappointed with that, but they had already completed the roof by the time I was able to discuss it with them. I would have much preferred them to point it out to me beforehand, so I could see if someone else would be able to address the problem while the roof was still off. If they had arrived on time, I could have discussed it while they were working.
Description of Work: Middletown Roofing removed and replaced a roof with 3-D architectural shingles. The job was relatively small, since it was an 1100 square foot house and only one story. They also installed a ridge vent.

The estimator agreed to use the make and model of shingle I requested, per Consumer Reports recommendations. Work was set for 11/14 but rescheduled for 11/15 due to rain. No show on 11/15, reset for 11/16. No show by noon, so I called and was told the crew would show by lunchtime. They came at 1 PM. Roman, the main contact, spoke excellent English but didn't come often. I had requested hand nailing but changed that requirement to air nailing on 11/16 per framer's recommendation. That probably saved two days' labor, but the price remained the same (I was told this would be true before the work had started). Obvious roof damage was not repaired until I pointed it out - several planks were badly rotted and were replaced. The entire roof had been covered with roofing paper, including our planned and precut vent holes - some of the vent holes had even been covered with sheathing by the roofers and had to be reopened. Also, sheathing over our new addition was papered but didn't need it due to the nature of the sheathing - not a big problem, but it involved unneeded materials and labor. The crew worked til dusk. They did no clean-up at that time but did remove the trailer full of debris. I discovered that the crew had already shingled over a vent cut for a second-floor bath, so I called the estimator and he said that Roman or he would fix it. I crawled into the space above the bath, drilled a hole thru the sheathing and shingles, and stuck some tubing out of the hole to mark the area. I showed this to Roman, who got the vent restored. As I was walking into my front yard to check on the work one afternoon, I noticed a worker walking across the roof with our sole electric skylight and heading for the wrong precut hole (we had 3 skylights of the same measurement, but only one is electric and was meant for a specific location). I was able to correct the problem by yelling and gesturing, but it could have been a serious problem if I hadn't caught it. Following the work, some shingle debris was caught in trees and stuck on the house, otherwise debris clean-up was very thorough. I'm still finding roofing nails in the yard despite the clean-up with a magnet, but I think that's typical. Days later I was on my roof checking some squirrel damage that we had had corrected months ago before purchasing the house. The roofer had removed the protective mesh attached previously, leaving the hole open again - but he had attached some flashing inside the hole, which covered most of it. I attached some PVC trim over the hole to further close it. I ran across photos taken by our home inspector and realized that there was another squirrel-damaged area under an eave. Sure enough, when I checked that out I found that the mesh had been removed and the hole was wide open. Maybe there was flashing inside that hole, too, but I was able to cram a lot of fiberglass insulation into it. I still need to cover the area with mesh or metal flashing to close it up effectively. Given the scope of the work done (45 squares of shingles, multiple roof lines, both old and new construction) my complaints might be considered par for the course, but I feel that I had to take the lead on finding and even correcting problems that should have been the responsibility of the company. Special note to Angie's List subscribers: I was able to use a coupon published by AL to save $300 on the job. It pays to check out related coupons!
Description of Work: The crew tore off our old roof (single ply), attached drip edge and new shingles, redid the flashing, mounted four skylights in conjunction with our framer, and installed several roof vents for exhaust fans.

Response from Middletown Roofing Windows and Siding Inc
In regards to the Home Owners concerns at 706 Homestead Blvd, it should be noted that this job was part of a total remodel job at this property. Remodeling jobs can cause lots of confusion if things aren’t planned beforehand. We were not made aware of some of these issues until after the fact. We agreed to work with the Home Owner’s framer regarding necessary exhaust fan vents. It was necessary for this framer to show our crew where each vent should be and was understood that Home Owner himself would communicate this to them. Also, neither the Home Owner or the framer made us aware of any vent holes under the sheathing. Without telling us, we would not have known. Regarding the skylight issue, we were not made aware that there was an electric skylight. The Home Owner himself provided these skylights and our company was to install them for him. The squirrel issue he is referring to was probably a soffit/facia problem and was not part of our roofing job. We did not work in this area. Middletown Roofing assures that all work done for this Home Owner was done with the highest standards and best material available. As you can see by Home Owners grading, it was done at a very fair price. We at Middletown Roofing Windows & Siding want our customers to be happy and assured that working with us they will receive the highest quality there is. As far as any other issues, we will work with the Home Owner until he is satisfied.

The owner, Roman Giordana, came out for an estimate the next day after I called. He took the time to go over the estimate, explain what was to be done and in what time frame. The estimate was Nov. 14, and one week later all work was completed. His crew was professional and did a great job with the roof and clean up. During the entire process, I received instant communication for any questions I had. I would recommend this company.

Did have to contact them about actual service date. They did work it out to come when originally promised. Work was done in one full day with a large crew. Cleaned up well after service completed. Crew did back into and destroy a concrete driveway pillar. Talked to owner that night and he did pay the entire cost to have the pillar rebuilt. Did not argue about price or the contractor we used and the repair was extensive. ($1,800) They did not reattach a few gutters but that was taken care of when we had our gutters cleaned.

It didn't go at all. Middletown Roofing was way too late in getting around to me. I had 2 other estimates and went with Beams.
Description of Work: I called Middletown Roofing request an estimate for a new roof and was told someone would call the following week to set up an appointment. Today (11/19/12) someone from the company called to take a look at the roof after I had already had the roof replaced with another contractor.

Response from Middletown Roofing Windows and Siding Inc
In response To Member complaint regarding Sept 21 request for a quote. The time he is referring to was right in the middle of Lou.'s big hail storm. Our company alone had over 2,000 phone calls and were very overwhelmed. It was unfortunate that he did not receive a call back but at times like these, some calls fall through the cracks and his was one of those. For that, we apologize but it was an unintentional mistake. However, on 11/19/12 one of our estimators called Member and told him his name and which company he was with and asked if he still needed him to come by to look at his roof. He said "Yes, that he needed him to look at the bay window flashing" and said for him to talk to his wife. She was to show him what was needed. When our estimator got to the house, he could see the roof was new. As he starting talking to Member he realized they had mistaken him for someone else. I assume they thought he was a BEAM employee since they had put on their roof. I am not sure why he is upset with us and gave us an F rating when we went over there "free of charge" but did no work on his house. Roman Giordana, President

The entire process was handled well from estimation to completion, with as little "fuss" and inconvenience as possible. We did have several weeks wait time between our initial contact and job completion, but that was understandably due to demands on the company resulting from many homes in the area being damaged by the hail storm which destroyed the integrity of our old roof. The wait was worth the high quality performance of the company.
Description of Work: Middletown Roofing employees tore off hail damaged shingled roof and replaced it. Work was done in one day, and the mess cleaned up completely. Company did exactly what I asked them to do and when they promised to do it.

Workers showed up on the day that they were supposed to and returned the next day to complete the job. They did a good job of cleaning up all the discarded material. The roof looks good. They returned a couple of weeks later to replace the gutters and two downspouts. The gutters look great compared to the old gutters, it was pouring rain when I arrived home the day they were installed, the gutters appeared to be doing an adequate job. I also had a gutter added to one side of my detached garage, where there was not a gutter previously, this added gutter greatly helped to reduce the water that was seeping under the garage side door. We had a little bit of a problem with an incorrect total amount on the sales contract, but, Middletown took care of the issue and honored the sales contract. I was very pleased with the resolution, Thank You, Middletown Roofing!

Description of Work: Mr Parker came out and inspected the roof on 11 May 2012 . He agreed to do the work for what my insurance company allocated for the roof. I upgraded the skylights (3) and also opt for three dimensional shingles with limited lifetime warrenty. The Middletown crew was there at 8:00 on 22 May and worked h****** a hot day until they finished the job about 5:30 PM. They did an excellent professioal job and cleaned up the yard and driveway during and after they were done. I found less then ten nails in the yard after the completion of the work. These men know how to put a roof on !! We are completly satisfied, have no leaks and the roof looks great with the Architectual Shingles. The skylights make the rooms inside the house brighter and we barely hear the rain. I will hire them again if I need to to additional work.

I called Middletown Roofing for an estimate. They came when they were scheduled (which is no small thing for a contractor) and gave me an estimate. I had estimates from other roofers, that would bother to show up. Middletown was not the lowest but toward the bottom. They were, however, by far the most professional. I scheduled them to replace the shingles that were missing. They did not try to upsell me. They did the work when schedules and cleaned up after themselves. You couldn't tell they had been there. I have since referred them to others. One person had water leakage in their home. Two other roofers came out to give bids. Neither actually went into the attic or on the roof. They gave estimates in the thousands of dollars. Middletown came out, actually went into the attic (seems obvious to me but apparently it's not) and determined the problem wasn't the roof at all but instead a loose drain pipe. They fixed it for a couple of hundred dollars. I'll use Middletown for any future roofing repairs I may have.

They came out quickly and provided an estimate which was very competitive. within a day or two. They came out and did the work within a week or so of our acceptance of their terms. Although the leak was reduced, the next big rainstorm we still saw a problem. When we called them back, they came out very quickly and made adjustments, Since then, we have had several rainstorms and have seen no further signs of the problem.

Everything went very well. Originally, they were going to re-flash the chimney, but the chimney was found to be in bad shape, so, for the same price, they removed the chimney and simply covered over it. It's an unused chimney that 40+ years ago used to vent a gas burning floor furnace. The furnace was long since removed and the chimney was just an aging remnant of that. The gutter work was done quickly and professionally and looks great and so far is working perfectly.
Description of Work: I had a chimney removed and the roof repaired to cover where the chimney used to be. Some nail pops were repaired. A vent pipe was reflashed. Finally, new gutters were put up around the house and garage.

We contacted 3 companies for estimates and are so glad we decided to go with Middletown Roofing. Top notch experience all the way around. Parker provided a very professional estimate after examing our roof. He met with our insurance adjustor who was impressed with the fact that not only was Parker on time, but that he even showed up. Our adjustor said many times roofing reps. will set a time to meet and either not show or be late. After working out the details, the job began the next day. The crew that took off the old roof and installed the new one were prompt, polite, and finished in the expected time frame. The clean up afterwards was immaculate. We love the finished product and would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone needing their services.
