You can’t fix warped composite decking boards, but you can replace them so your deck surface is no longer warped. For more severely warped decks, especially those with damaged joists or support beams, you’ll need a pro to inspect the deck and recommend whether you should replace the structure or repair the damage.

Composite decking may never warp, or it may warp quickly. Several factors can influence the rate of warping, including the material's quality, installation method, and installation location. We recommend hanging a porch swing at least 2.5 to 3 feet from the wall and about 17 inches above the ground to avoid damaging your home. You want enough clearance behind it and on each side of the porch swing to move around safely and avoid the chains rubbing against it.

Start with a 60- or 80-grit sandpaper when sanding a deck, though this could change depending on the type of wood that comprises the deck and how smooth you want the overall finish. If you prioritize a smooth final finish, progress to a finer grit like 120 or 150. Avoid ultra-fine grits for traditional sanding, as it could close up the wood pores and make it harder to apply a finish down the line.

PVC decking can get slippery when wet because it’s made from plastic. However, composite and wood decking can also be slippery when wet. It’s best to wear shoes with grippy soles when walking on a wet deck, no matter the material, and to be extra cautious not to slip and fall down.
