I originally wanted Ashpaugh Electric to do my work but they were unable to schedule as quickly as I needed. Subsequently I had another contractor and they did not repair the problem although they indicated it was fixed. They also started another project, without asking, and I had to ask them to leave. Unfortunately they had disconnected some lights in our garage and outside. Shane from Ashpaugh Electric came out and I explained both scenarios. He went quickly to work after explaining what the job could cost at the highest. He also explained that if it took less time the amount would be adjusted downward. I love this about Ashpaugh. You actually have a worse case scenario before starting the project. Shane figured out what the first contractor had done - explained their error and he corrected the problem - restoring all our lights. He then looked at the original problem and why, after the first contractor replaced the breaker, that the outlet still did not work correctly. He found the problem with the panel connection and corrected it in short order. Shane was professional - informative - and responsive to all my questions. I could not have asked for a better performance or outcome. I have used Ashpaugh in the past and they have never dissappointed me.

We wouldn't call anyone else other than Ashpaugh Electric. . It was Angie's list that led us to them and we'll stick with them for any electrical needs we have: both routine or emergency. They are prompt, "wear booties", go right to work, are efficieint, and advise the homeowner along the way of what they find. The inspection of all smoke detectors went well and we signed up for a new twice a year program. Even though the condo is 5 years old, we have heard too many sad stories about home and garage electrical fires and so we decided to be protective.
Description of Work: We asked Ashpaugh to come to a 2 bedroom, 2 and 1/2 bath condo, to check all the smoke detectors. We do this every year. In addition to their annual service, we also signed up for their new twice a year whole home electrical system checkup which includes checking on/trouble shooting the main electrical panel box, and, testing every single outlet, all systems, as well as the smoke detectors. Please note in the amount we paid, there was the home visit call AND a one year contract for twice a year proection and service calls, too. .

Ashpaugh Electric made a service visit to the member's residence due to intermittent electrical function throughout the interior of their residence. Upon our diagnosis, we found that the energy was not being properly distributed via the service panel main breaker. The member's electrical service panel was originally installed in the mid-to-late 1970’s and was no longer in production; making service parts very difficult to locate and provide. We made several attempts and were successful to find an obsolete main breaker to install in the member's service panel. However once the original, defective main breaker was removed, it was found that the electrical bars inside the service panel, which connect to the main breaker (which allows for the distribution of electrical energy to be distributed to each of the other branch circuit breakers) had become stressed due to the heat of the main breaker failing, which caused the failure of the internal electrical bus bars. When the bus bars in an obsolete panel fail, it requires the service panel to be replaced in its entirety. Unfortunately, this type of failure is not exposed until the main breaker has been completely removed. Because this was an obsolete panel, we were very careful not to remove the breaker until we had located a replacement. We were able to replace the electrical service panel in its entirety and make a total repair all within the same day, causing the member not to be without power for an extended period of time and making a complete and thorough repair for them.

Phone service was very friendly. They gave a discount to Angie's customers, applied to the diagnostic portion of the bill. The technician was extremely pleasant, but only did a cursory check of the system (nothing my husband hadn't already done) and could not identify our problem. So we're back to Square One and out $77. Certainly, though, this is a very pleasant company to work with for those whose problems are more easily detectable.

Ashpaugh Electric made a site visit to this residence on June 29, 2009. The service call was requesting us to identify a very intermittent “chirping” type sound suspected from the smoke detector system. Our Master Electrician met with the member upon our onsite arrival, his wife was not home at the time. Our Master Electrician reviewed his prior diagnosis and repairs. He stated that he “replaced all of the smoke detector 9 volt batteries and the intermittent chirping condition continued to occur at random times.” he then bought all new Kidde Smoke Detectors and replaced all of the smoke detectors himself. He stated that the condition occurred again while they were out of the home, which greatly startled their house dog. He stated his neighbor overheard the commotion while watching over the house; the neighbor had removed all the batteries and shut the smoke detectors off. He stated that the smoke detectors had been electrically turned off and batteries removed for a number of weeks before our arrival. Upon our diagnostics, our Master Electrician re-energized the 120 volt circuitry, replaced the removed batteries from the smoke detectors. We then removed individual smoked detectors and checked A/C voltage to the units, which was well within specifications. All of the 9 volt batteries were installed correctly and were operational. Our Master Electrician then re-initialized all of the smoke detectors as per the instructions and determined, while at the residence that the smoke detectors were operating properly and were within specifications. Upon our diagnostics and review, we found the system to be operational and working as designed. He was pleased with our diagnosis and inspection. When his wife arrived home, she stated that she was very concerned that the problem could occur again and would cause her dog much stress. She stated to our Master Electrician that she wanted the smoke detectors removed and capped off. We stated to them that due to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) that the smoke detectors are required in the residence and we are not able to remove them. We explained that due to extreme liability and concern for their personal safety, the smoke detectors needed to be left intact in their existing locations. Our Master Electrician had re-initialized their systems, gone through the checks and found the entire system operating properly. She stated she was not happy and that she would have the smoke detectors removed. Our paramount concern is always for our customers’ complete satisfaction and personal safety. Unfortunately, when personal safety is required over satisfaction we must go with personal safety. In this case, we could not and would not remove the smoke detectors as she had requested. We tried to fully explain the situation and the impact that it could cause by someone removing the smoke detectors and heavily cautioned her against moving forward with any removal.

We want to install outdoor lighting in our new home. Electrician came out and charged $200 just for the visit and to test for electricity on our patio and dock. Electrician said he would have the sales person contact me to come out and quote on installing outdoor lighting. No one called, so I called them after 1 week and asked them to have a sales person contact me. No one ever called me back.- it has been over a month and we are going to use another company.

Upon reviewing the Angie’s List Report, Brian Ashpaugh, owner of Ashpaugh Electric made an immediate phone call to the member to discuss her dissatisfaction. Upon speaking with her, Mr. Ashpaugh was able to establish that she called our office, leaving a message on a weekend. Regretfully, the phone message was not relayed to our Customer Service Staff and as a result, we did not return her message to schedule her requested follow-up quotation -- resulting in her extreme disappointment. Owner, Brian Ashpaugh apologized to her and due to our poor communication for not following up; Mr. Ashpaugh provided a good-will gesture, refunding $201.00 for her May 20th Service Visit. It is vitally important at Ashpaugh Electric that our customers are completely satisfied with our work. Wonderful from beginning to end! The customer service when we initially called was warm and professional, and that continued throughout the process. Jim, our "Customer Liaison" arrived on time and quoted a reasonable price. He was very helpful and completed the work in short order. I have to say, you really do feel a difference with this company. I cannot speak highly enough @ this company. I actually used them twice as there was so much work to be done. Steve came over within days of my call and gave me an estimate. They were available within a weeks time. Each time they were there, the men were great, not only did they do a great job, but I was very comfortable having them in my home. The estimate was thorough and there were no hidden costs even when one of the projects took longer than expected. The prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend them to anyone including my family and friends!
Description of Work: They installed can lights in 2 rooms, removed track lighting, replaced fixtures, replaced ceiling fans, rewired one of our electric boxes, fixed nonworking outlets, and inspected our current electrical box for problems.

He was very good. He did not have the light assembly but told me where to buy it. Which I did and I had a family member install it. I was impressed with ASHPAUGH and would use them again. They were very prompt. He took some time though trying to sell me warranties/service plans, which was a bit of draw back.

Jim, the electrician, did a great job! He was knowledgeable and professional. He showed up on time. He put me at ease since I was the one who wired the light switches incorrectly. He explained in advance what options and procedures he was going to use. Work was completed in a timely manner and the area was cleaned up. A surprise was the fact that I was invoiced for the balance due and did not have to write out a check at the time Jim was done. We now have an electrician we are comfortable with calling to perform work at our house.
Description of Work: Corrected wiring on two sets of 3 way switches. Replaced duplex outlet over kitchen counter to GFCI. Rerounted wiring for under the counter lighting into cabinet and reinstalled outlet box.

Brian was very nice and gave good ideas when he came out to quote. He was good about returning calls and keeping me posted on the timing of the job. The lights were ordered promptly and installation was scheduled immediately. Brian sent an extra electrician and the job was completed in one day at my request. The installers cleaned up well when the job was done. I checked all the work before they left and found they did not install dimmers per the order. They changed the switches to dimmers before leaving. Overall the job went excellent. However, one small request was added and we never received pricing before the job started. We were shocked to see the price of the add on after the job was complete. Otherwise the pricing was exactly as quoted.
Description of Work: Installed undercabinet lighting, moved a few outlets, changed out trim kits on existing lights.

It was truly an honor to work for them on their kitchen remodel. The new electrical upgrades and lighting installations helped to bring out the true beauty of their new kitchen. After presenting her with our detailed electrical quotations; she requested that we also replace some additional lighting fixtures and trims while onsite. Per phone conversations and emails between her and Mr. Ashpaugh, it was agreed that Ashpaugh Electric would perform the additional work which required additional man power (labor), materials and a special ladder apparatus to reach her eighteen foot ceiling for installation of said items. Billing for the extra items and labor was compiled with only the labor required and materials used. For example: two men were utilized to handle the extra work, however; we only billed labor hours at a one-man rate. Brian Ashpaugh, owner of Ashpaugh Electric, discussed via telephone with her the billing provisions and followed up with a detailed email asking if there would be any further questions. Mr. Ashpaugh stated that he would welcome the opportunity to return to her home and discuss any concerns or questions personally. It is vitally important at Ashpaugh Electric that our customers are completely satisfied with our work and are completely understanding of our charges as we work; we want to always be clear and concise. We called for an estimate on Wednesday the 29th and they came to give an estimate on Thursday the 30th. We had the work done on Tuesday the 5th. The work took about 6 hours, and we barely noticed that the electrician was in our house - he was very professional and courteous and neat. All of the boxes are neatly labeled to assist us when we install the lights and fans. When he was finished, he explained what he had done and asked if I had any questions.
Description of Work: They installed boxes, wiring, and switches for 5 ceiling fans. (They didn't install the actual fans.) The rooms already had wall switches that controlled electric outlets in the room, so he changed those outlets back to normal and made the wall switches control the fan boxes instead. In four of the rooms he used the existing switch box; in the other he installed a new switch box with two switches for the ceiling fan.

Update as of May 20, 2009: Still having problem with one of the GFI outlets they replaced. Was not tripping completely, but there was no power on certain days. We asked them to send out another electrician to see if a different set of "eyes" could help resolve the issue-they were more than happy to do this and even tried to help my wife troubleshoot the issue over the phone. Excellent. They sent another master electrician out to our house who was very thorough and tested all the outlets and junction boxes in the kitchen. Could not find an issue and offered to replace the GFI outlet as it may be faulty. I said no and that I would first try to see if the problem was within the electrical of the coffeemaker. They were very polite and helpful in offering solutions and tips for future. Turns out that it was the coffeemaker. I received a phone call from the owner checking in on the visit and making sure we were fully satisfied. He was very professional and truly concerned-I would definitely use them again having gone through a tough experience and seeing how excellent they were to work with in getting a resolution.
Description of Work: Replaced a bad fuse. Checked for what was causing an outlet to continue to trip-replaced the outlet. Checked a couple of related outlets. Service person came out on time but it cost $70 for the service call. The service person replaced the fuse but could not determine the issue with the outlet. Looked inside and outside the house for the issue but was having trouble diagnosing the problem. Said that many of our outlets did not have trips on them and that they should be replaced. Too costly and not needed considering the cost. Ended up replacing the one outlet but the problem remained. Came back out and replaced it again with another new outlet-not certain the issue is resolved. I have not hired many electricians, but they seemed expensive and I do not feel confident with the end result.

On April 9, 2009 Ashpaugh Electric made an electrical service call in response to homeowner stating a need to reset a GFCI receptacle in the kitchen when using the blender. Our Master Electrician changed out the GFCI to meet the new UL/ANSI Listing requirements and checked termination polarity and mechanical grounding of all devices in the same GFCI circuit. Neither Master Electrician nor the homeowner was able to verify the origin of the fault. On April 16, 2009 the member phoned Ashpaugh Electric again to explain she was continuing to experience problems with the GFCI tripping. Ashpaugh Electric made a NO CHARGE return visit and completed another full check of the system. Again our Master Electrician was unable to cause the GFCI to trip or make the fault reoccur. On May 8, 2009 she called, stating the same receptacle had tripped out once again. Brian Ashpaugh talked with her in great depth to determine exactly when and how often the tripping was occurring. The problem seemed to be extremely intermittent and erratic. On May 12, 2009 Ashpaugh Electric made an additional NO CHARGE service visit. At which time we found from working with her, that the coffee maker was in fact the appliance that was causing the GFCI receptacle to intermittently trip out and de-energize the entire circuit in question. On May 19, 2009 Brian Ashpaugh made a follow up call with them to insure that they were completely satisfied and that the GFCI intermittent situation was corrected. Her husband stated the problem was resolved and that he certainly would use only Ashpaugh Electric in the future for any future electrical needs. It is our desire at Ashpaugh Electric to provide excellent customer service, good quality products and ethical work that reflects our integrity and desire to be the best electrical contractor that we can be for our customers.

They were able to solve all of the problems and they did a great job. They were very good and cleaned up well after themselves.
Description of Work: They have done a few small electrical jobs for me. I had a panel box that was shorting out so they traced that back to a chipmunk problem. They redid it and rewired it. I called them again to find a problem to rewire a yard lamp and replace the head.

I called them to do an inspection of our electrical system and provide an estimate for the work eventually performed a few months ago. The person I spoke with over the phone was very professional, and willing to work around our schedule. The men who did the inspection were professional and advised our electrical system was fine. When I called them back to set up an appointment to have the work they completed an estimate for done, again very professional and willing to work around our schedule. They were even willing to come out as soon as the next day. They were on time and completed the work in less time than estimated. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: They wired for ceiling lights in four of our bedrooms and brought garage and exterior outlets up to code.

The staff was prompt, courteous and clean. The panel replacement and upgrades went well. The Contractor had two experience electricians out to make downtime shorter. They were easy to work with as far as breaking out the new circuits for the areas and rooms I wanted separated. One might be able find a service rated surge protector cheaper somewhere else. However, I felt the price was acceptable in consideration with the other services I received.
Description of Work: Replaced a 40 yr old main electrical panel of limited circuit breaker space with a new panelboard with additional breaker space. I provided the new panelboard and circuit breakers from my stock of supplies (as planned ahead of time). They also split out 3 new circuits from an existing problem circuit, fixed disjointed conduit at meter base, checked out and fixed a problem switch and installed surge protector on the main service.

Very detailed quote, the electricians answered questions as they worked. The were a very friendly crew, very professional. Main panel required some re-wiring and the feeder wire was run outside of the house. They crew nicely caulked around the conduit on the outside runs. They nicely split the single circuit into the multiple circuits we needed. The installation looks very neat.
