They did a really good job. They were very courteous and were here on time. They called to see if everything was up to my liking. They also came back for a call back. They were very efficient. The price they charged me was also on line. They were very professional. I will continue to use them in the future.
Description of Work: I used Ashpaugh Electric INC a week ago to put spot lights at the back of my house with sensors on it. They switched out chandelier and 2 ceiling fans. They also put some outlet switches.

Aspaugh Electric was a pleasure to do business with. Upon calling, was able to secure an appointment for two days later. Wes arrived on time, was pleasant, professional and a great problem solver. His sense of purpose and creative problem solving skills were particularly appreciated. He ascertained the problem and resolved it in a reasonable amount of time. Additionally, we wanted to get a new bathroom ceiling light/ventilation fan installed and he provided a quote. Because a new ventilation would require going through the attic, the quote was more than we were willing to pay. However, since one our primary goals was aesthetics, he suggested switching the light plate to that of the new ceiling fan/vent. This option was much less expensive and looks great. Truly pleased with the experience. Also, when paying by credit card, you call the office and provide your credit card number--for security purposes. Lenea was very pleasant and quick. Would absolutely use Ashpaugh Electric again.
Description of Work: Master bathroom electrical work. Bathroom outlets stopped working, as did our jetted tub and a ceiling light. We didn't know why so Aspaugh conducted an analysis and resolved the problem. Additionally, had a ceiling light vent light plate switched out.

They've been really good and we've called them 3 times. We've had them in the past to add lighting to our kitchen; can lights. They also added decorative lightening and a light on a porch. They are excellent. I believe reading from their history that they are a local home grown family run electric company. They have grown very large but they still the same.

This was a fantastic experience. The electrician arrived on time, and was extremely careful and clean. This work was done in our bedroom and he put down a large tarp over our bed and floor. He answered my questions and shared technical information with me as well. Not only did we get a good final product, but I learned a lot as well.
Description of Work: Ashpaugh ran the electrical and junction boxes for a ceiling fan. I wanted to install the fan myself, but they did everything else.

Electrician Wes offered two options. He could spend up to three hours to replace and install the entire unit I had purchased, or he could try to swap the inoperative fan/motor with the new one in the old fixture. If successful, it would save about $200 in labor. He successfully made the switch in the motor/fan in less than 30 minutes. We are very, very pleased. James S. Calkins 8414 N. I met with the owner, Brian, who was very friendly but came off as more interested in selling his company's electrical maintenance plan than giving me an estimate on the job. In the 30 minutes he spent at my home, more than half of it was spent emphasizing the value of his maintenance plan. That was a big turnoff and did not leave a good impression with me. I do not like being sold services so intensely when all I wanted was an estimate. He could have spent 5 minutes selling the plan and that would have been enough for me. I will not hire this company.

Response from ASHPAUGH ELECTRIC INC
When meeting with the member, I assessed the new installation of recessed lighting and new switch controls for her laundry room. Upon my inspection of the attic area and interior branch circuit wiring, I found that several of the interior branch circuits were aluminum. Upon finding the aluminum wiring, I inspected the interior switch the member had directed me to in the laundry room, and found that the aluminum wiring had become fractured. Thus, finding the wiring to be aluminum and the service conductor fractured inside the switch box; I presented the Safety Maintenance Program for her. Our Safety Program would involve thorough safety checking all of the electrical wiring throughout her home. This check is especially important with aluminum conductors to insure that everything is in good working condition and providing safe operation. Aluminum conductors are more prone to losing at termination points which causes the aluminum conductor to overheat and create a thermal condition. Thermal conditions are a concern with interior aluminum branch circuit wiring and should be periodically checked to insure that they are safe to operate. I did thoroughly explain to the memebr the reason for my concern and the “great fit” our Safety Maintenance Program would provide for her and her home, especially in lieu of the interior aluminum wiring that was installed when the house was new and the number of circuits that were of aluminum construction throughout the home. Our Safety Agreement Program is an optional service provided for our customers which includes two annual inspections includes two very involved computerized testing of interior electrical circuitry, servicing of electrical service panel(s), testing and cleaning of interior smoke detectors, computerized verification of electrical performance at all receptacles, visual inspections in attic, GFCI performance testing with computerized equipment, electrical testing of required circuits and a thorough visual inspection. The testing equipment and hours required of this testing is with long term relationship in mind and certainly priced extremely competitively for such a valuable service. We price our Safety Check Program extremely competitively for such a valuable service of only $169.00 annually for the member.

Would most likely recommend this company to the work.
Description of Work: I contacted Ashpaugh to obtain information about alumnium wiring in residential homes. I have buyers who are considering purchasing a home tat has some alum. wiring and they are concerned about its safety and also what remedies are available to them. Brian returned my call with a couple hours of my inquiry to his office and proceeded to educate me on the process his company utilizes to assess the condition of such wiring in homes and what the repairs methods are to deal with this issue. He was thorough and detailed in his explanation. Although he could not give an estimate of what it would cost my clients, he did stress that once the assessment and any needed repairs were done, the property would be code compliant and safe.

Ashpaugh Electric did make a safety electrical check of the Thorne residence on September 13, 2010, at which time, during initial safety inspection, we found a number of items that needed to be corrected, either due to personal safety or National Electrical Code infractions. As part of our thorough electrical testing and safety checks, we made known items of concern as well as items found to be non-compliant to the the member's. The member's elected not to have corrections made at time of visit. The total Safety Agreement, which includes two yearly inspections includes two very involved computerized testing of interior electrical circuitry, servicing of electrical service panel(s), testing and cleaning of interior smoke detectors, computerized verification of electrical performance at all receptacles, visual inspections in attic, GFCI performance testing with computerized equipment, electrical testing of required circuits and a thorough visual inspection of all electrical devices. The testing equipment and hours required of this testing is with long term relationship in mind and certainly priced extremely competitively for such a valuable service. We price our Safety Check Program extremely competitively for such a valuable service of only $169.00 annually for the the member's.

The lady on the phone was polite and professional but not very sincere or helpful.
Description of Work: Called to schedule an appointment. Explained that we had a furnace installed and one of the lines was not hooked up to the panel but the line had been run to the panel. I confirmed we had room in the box. Please be aware that this company will charge $70 to make the trip and give you the quote regardless of whether work is done or not. While many companies do this, I hate this practice and decided against an appointment based on this policy. If they can't give me a range over the phone of what to expect, I have no interest in doing business.

Response from ASHPAUGH ELECTRIC INC
We were honored to receive a phone call inquiring as to the price to wire member’s furnace. During the phone conversation, member stated that he had run the wiring to the electrical panel himself, and wanted an electrician to terminate the connection to his electrical panel. During the phone conversation, it was established that there would need to be an initial fee of $70, which would include our trip and 15-minute assessment of the electrical circuitry, furnace and electrical panel as well as the way the circuit had been installed, etc. to ensure that the connection complied with the 2008 National Electrical Code. Being a licensed Master Electrical Contractor, it is vital to our customer’s safety and our business practice to ensure that these parameters have been met prior to us being able to give an exact price. The initial onsite assessment would have allowed us to give member an exact price after reviewing the parameters as stated above. Member was not willing to make the initial commitment for this assessment, and thus decided not to schedule an appointment with Ashpaugh Electric.

Ashpaugh went above and beyond the required work by finding defects in our home's roof and insulation that the original builder did not perfom adequately. These defects were corrected which prevented damage to the interior and enhanced the insulation of the home. The electrical work was done efficiently and the finished product is great! I would highly recommend Ashpaugh for any electrical work that you home needs. The owner, Brian, comes to your home to determine the scope of work, then promptly gives a bid by email including digital pictures of the work to be performed. Brian keeps in touch throughout the work giving daily updates. His level of service exceeds any owner of a company that I have known.

I just started using them last year, and I purchased a contract with them. With that service agreement comes an in-home inspection and they definitely follow-up. The service man was excellent as well; very prompt, knowledgable, and considerate. I had a great deal of confidence in him. What I wanted him to do was very unusual & he had several options as to how this could be done. They followed-up with a call, which I liked. I'm happy with their services and I would recommend them to others.

Electrician (Wes) showed up on time (called ahead). I explained what i wanted done and he looked at the job. Our kitchen ceiling is wood, so he would have to cut through more than just drywall. He gave me the price from their rate book which is based on estimated time and he explained this. He also said that when he gets in the attic, if it isn't as difficult as he thought, he would adjust the charge based on the time spent (which he ended up doing). We had recently had our attic insulated and he also explained why some of the recessed lights are shutting off. He did the work, looked great, cleaned up. Everything was great. I would highly recommend Ashpaugh. I've had a few electrical companies do work for me over the year and they are definitely the best I've dealt with. Very professional and thorough.

I was able to schedule the appointment for the day after I initially called and the electrician arrived towards the end of the three hour window they provided me. The electrician checked my panel and inspected the receptacle that I replaced. He suspected the problem was either a loose wire attached to the GFI or that the GFI was bad. He checked my panel and the terminals on each circuit. He noted that one was lose and tighten it for me (not the circuit in question however). He also answered a couple of ?electrical? questions that I had unrelated to this service call which I appreciated his consultation on. I rated a ?C? on price because of the trip charge ($70) AND the charge for inspecting my panel ($53). They did tell me this on the phone when I made the appointment so I expected it. The last time I used an electrician or someone in the trades the trip charge was waived if work was performed. I don?t mind paying a trip charge if there is no work performed or establishing a minimum fee, but adding both seemed a bit high. The $20 Angie List referral coupon helped with the cost which I appreciated.
Description of Work: I replaced a GFI receptacle that was under a high load and started to melt internally. The circuit did not trip in the circuit box like I would have expected and I asked the electrician to check my circuit panel and the circuit breaker in question.

Response from ASHPAUGH ELECTRIC INC
Ashpaugh Electric made a service visit to the member's residence on December 29, 2010. At that time, we performed a systematic and detailed check of the electrical circuitry to a receptacle that had overheated. The $70 trip charge includes the first fifteen minutes of initial electrical diagnosis, which was performed for the member. The $53 repair charge was for the thorough and in-depth electrical inspection of the circuitry for the overheated receptacle to ensure that all terminals and pin fit were electrically sound and in good working condition. The trip plus initial diagnosis for $70 cannot be waived. We include a fifteen minute diagnostic time with every trip charge to provide for the important overall diagnosis for electrical testing and/or electrical repairs to begin. When repairing electrical circuitry, it is necessary to perform proper testing and checks to ensure that the electrical force being generated within the electrical wiring systems are proper, and have proper mechanical and electrical integrity especially when a near thermal condition has been present within that conductor and/or devices connected to the electrical circuit(s) in question.

They charged a flat fee per light. The job look longer than was expected, so it didn't end up being a bad value. We were pleased with the result and so far the lights have been working perfectly. We didn't get other quotes on the work so we rated price as B rather than A. We used this company again based on positive past experiences.

I had a contract with them where they came out twice a year. They came out once earlier. This was their second visit. I was very satisfied with their services. They had a window showy thing and they called before coming over. I would be using them in the future for putting up a ceiling fan in my house.
Description of Work: I have used the services of Ashbaugh Electric in September or October 2010. I had a couple of lights in my house that were blinking which did not seem right. So, they came out and checked the fuse box. I had an old style fuse box where I had to screw in as there were not breakers. They determined that when the fuse box would warm due to the passing of the current and then when it cooled down which it did not, the screws loosened. They tightened those. They also found out that I needed bigger fuses like a twenty vats instead of fifteen. They also put in some three way plugs that would kick off when there is a problem but they put them in the bathroom and around the kitchen sink.

We called on November 3. An appointment was set for November 8, between 8:00 -12 noon. She explained there would be a $70 charge for the electrician to make the trip. At approximately 11:05, the office called to say that the electrician had been delayed and wouldn't be there until the afternoon. We explained we wouldn't be home. They offered to come between 8 - 12 Wednesday. I requested that we be the first appointment of the day, she said "no." They could reschedule us for Friday, November 12. At that point, we just said we would rather work with someone else. No apologies -- just very unprofessional. The owner called later in the week, apologized and offered to make things right. They finished the work today, did an excellent job and were very professional. We would use them again.
