Technician was very good. My issue is entirely about the cost which was outrageous. It was disclosed before I authorized the work but I was upside down before he arrived with $70 trip fee for 4 mile drive from their office. No trip fee credit towards repair. $69 additional to replace one plug; Total charge $139 for a $20 part; 5 minutes of diagnostic and 10 minute repair. I would never use this business again.

Everything was wonderful! From the estimate, to the folks in the office to the electrician who came to do the work, this was an awesome experience. They were punctual, courteous, they cleaned up after themselves. They answered all of my questions and gave me additional information as well. My electrician was very knowledgeable and accommodating. I will be using them in the future for some additional projects. I would definitely recommend using them!

Verbal contracts: beware of promises made. Sloppy work. Rust corrosion found in light switch to the pool light along with a wire barely connected to the terminals causing the GFI to trip constantly (with corrosion off that terminal). The top right cover screw was loose to that light switch as well. No reply from owner regarding structural damage from sloppy drilling. The structural damage in the barn along with the improper wiring taken care of. Regarding the verbal contract, light switch in barn moved a foot back and higher than it was, causing blood on owner's hand trying to find it in the dark. Overall very sloppy work. Beware of verbal promises. Verbally, they were supposed to stay away from the pool plumbing so expensive valves would not become an issue. however, they drove the ground rod within 1 foot of the valve which is now not working properly and no reply from owner regarding this expensive replacement either. The owner and I discussed that it needed to be 5 feet further away from where it was driven in. I repaired the other leak they caused in the plumbing at the 4 way junction to the pump and the other 2 valves need work because of all the leaning when I asked then several times not to lean on it. Now it's leaking and has a flight leaning to the south which has caused the pump to be more at an angle. I spent July 4th weekend killing all the flies they let in from leaving the doors open.

My husband arranged to be off work 7/3 in order to have service, but the appointment was canceled because the electrician was sick. The owner of the company called to apologize which was appropriate. Unfortunately, his words did not equate to improved customer service; e.g. no notice to his staff to avoid this pitfall with us in the future. On 7/24 my husband again took off work to be home for a noon-3 p.m. service window only to be notified that the job ahead of us would take another hour or two to finish so our appointment was canceled. At this point it seems clear that our business isn't needed /wanted by this company and that Ashpaugh Electric may only best serve people who are unemployed or work from home.

It is most regretful that we failed the {removed member name} in providing excellent customer service as we continually strive to accomplish. Unfortunately, due to last minute sickness of multiple staff members at our office, we did have to reschedule the first appointment for {removed member name}. Then with the 2nd scheduled service appointment, in the afternoon there were difficulties with the prior job scheduled on the day we were to serve the {removed member name}, and we disappointed them yet again. I have personally contacted the {removed member name} to apologize for our poor customer service and all the anxiety we had inadvertently caused them. My original review was not a good one as we had a miscommunication on price but the owner of Ashpaugh made things right in the end so I cant really complain. The 2nd electrician sent to my house was super nice and did a great job. I would recommend him with A +++ ratings. He found the problem immediately and fixed it right away. Overall the work that was preformed was great, my only advice is to get a clear understanding of what the total charges are going to be.

Brain Ashpaugh assured me I did not need a new circuit box and not only did not charge for the visit, he emailed me the following day and attached a letter stating that I did not need the new circuit box. I am sorry I have no way to attach it here. I believe he is a true professional.

Ashpaugh Electric originally installed the garage attic fan. When I noticed that the fan was not working 1-1/2 years after installation, I contacted Ashpaugh to investigate and repair. The electricians came prepared with a replacement motor, which they installed quickly and efficiently. The repair was done at no charge even though the 1 year warranty had expired.

The power plug receptacle box installation went smoothly. Power was needed to be connected from the attic for this particular location. They managed to perform the installation without any drywall damage. Both electricians were very professional and really nice. They also cleaned up everything prior to leaving. They completed the work within the time estimate they promised me. I am very happy with this company.

Great experience. I received a confirmation phone call a day before which I like. We had a fairly easy fix to the electrical service box. The appointment was set for March 26th between 12-3pm. They called me at 2:30pm that day and said they would not be able to come. We rescheduled for Monday the 31th between 12-3pm. I had to call them at 3:30 pm that day and they said someone was held up and they would send someone different. I called back to confirm the location as no one had showed. I spoke with owner who said he had a different address which was not correct. I would have appreciated them telling me they did not want to do the work upfront and not wasted my time, twice.
Description of Work: I contacted the company for electrical work, to change ballast and put up a new flourescent fixture including taking down the old one.

I had used Ashpaugh Electric in 2009, and they had given excellent service. This was the first time I'd needed an electrician since then. When I called this morning, the woman who answered the phone (friendly, professional, reassuring) asked me to explain the problem we were having. Two of our outlets above a counter were not working. Both went out at the same time--we found them this way when we returned home from a short vacation. She explained that it could be the GFI that was tripped on another outlet, and I would need to look for outlets with the GFI on it, and reset it, which would reset the outlets that weren't working. She said the GFI outlet could be in a garage, another side of the house, outside, etc. But hopefully if I could find the correct one and hit the reset button, my problem would be fixed. She suggested that often this outlet with the GFI is one we wouldn't use, behind boxes in a garage, etc. Her explanation was thorough and understandable. I started looking first in our garage. . .and the second outlet I came to with the GFI (and reset )solved the problem! So no service call was necessary, although we had scheduled one for later in the week in case I had no luck being a detective. I called her right back and thanked her, and cancelled the appointment. Obviously, I will call Ashpaugh for any electrical problems I have in the future.

Brian Ashpaugh came to our home, first to do an initial needs assessment and price estimate. Brian was very personable and professional. He explained to us the pros and cons on what we needed done. Once the contract was agreed upon and signed, the work started timely. They installed a motion security lighting; flagpole up lighting; bedroom overhead lighting; basement fixture replacement; garage fixture replacement; garage GFI outlet; basement sump pump outlet; and whole house surge assure protection. Because of the brutal cold, the outside work was put in abeyance until the weather improved; all work were completed on March 11, 2014. We were very pleased with their work; they were very pleasant, professional and timely. We will not hesitate to recommend them to others and will use them again in the future.

Overall, the experience was positive. The pricing structure brought it down to a B grade. I was able to secure an appt. the very next day. I was given a range of Noon to 3pm, and the electrician arrived shortly after 12Noon. He was friendly, professional, and put on shoe covers when entering the home. He asked several questions to determine my personal preferences and purpose of the installation. It was a relatively simple outlet installation that involved connecting to an existing outlet,, just one wall stud adjacent to the intended location. My complaint is the $70 consulation fee, that is added onto the labor and cost of the job. In my experience with contractors, this fee is normally deducted from the total job, if the customer decides to proceed with the project. It seems fair that the contractor be compensated for the call, if the customer decides NOT to proceed with the job. But, with Ashpaugh, it is an extra cost, regardless of whether you approve the job or not. In my case I was billed the $70 for 15 min. of consultation, plus the actual labor and cost of the installation. Additonally, be aware that they price the job NOT by how long it takes to complete the job, but a pre-determined amount depending on the type of job. This could work in your favor if something takes longer than normal, but in my case, with a relatively simple installation, you don't come out as well. I did have a $20 Angie's List coupon which brought the total down by 12%.

I initially contacted them in November 2013 to evaluate and fix a basement dimmer switch that was both feeling and smelling hot. The appointment was scheduled for over 2 weeks later. The technician came out and informed us the switch needed to be replaced and they would order the part. Over 2 weeks later I contacted the company to check on the status of the new switch as no one from ashpaugh had contacted me. The woman who answered the phone did some checking and eventually found out the switch was in the warehouse. She scheduled the install for another 2 weeks out at this time. Dave the owner came and did the install 3 weeks later as they called the day before the install to reschedule for the following week. This then put us into 2014. He came and installed the switch, however, we continued to have the same problem so I called them back to report this. Dave said he would order another new switch. This took another 10 days to come in and another week after that to get someone out to do the install. The guy who came out this time ended up installing a standard switch rather than a dimmer as he felt it was the amount of lights on a dimmer that was causing the problem. In this time period they still sent me a bill which I called to say wasn't being paid until the work was done correctly. I spoke with Dave and a woman at the front desk. They both agreed that I shouldn't pay until all work was done. They then proceed to send me two more bills with late charges on them. Overall not happy with the billing procedures or the amount of time requires for this. I had to have a technician out 3 times to fix a light switch. I also had to call to check if parts were in rather than them calling schedule once they arrived. I also had to call several times to get bills straightened out.

Gary installed two light fixtures in our entry hall and master bedroom. We have used Ashpaugh Electric several times over the years to install light fixtures and ceiling fans and have always been happy with the quality of work and with the friendly service received. Gary gave us a quote before starting the work. He was super nice and assembled/installed both light fixtures in a short period of time. It saved my husband time and frustration from doing it on his own which was worth every penny! We used the Angie's List coupon, too. We will continue to use Ashpaugh for our future electrical needs and like giving a local company our business.

We called them back and the problem was a shorted wire in one of the garage coach lights. They did not charge for the second trip since they failed to find the problem the first time.

We will be parting ways with Ashpaugh, a company we have called upon for 20 years +/-. We could not get our garage door to open just prior to the prediction of really bad weather in Indpls; we checked the circuit breaker and found one had tripped, and re-set same. However the garage door would still not open. We understood the manual opening and my husband could perform same, but I cannot and we leave the house at different times. So, with the snow and low temps predicted, we felt it was very important we solve the problem. When we called Ashpaugh, we were told it would be Jan. 9th before anyone could get to us. I was very surprised at that and expressed that we felt this was somewhat of an emergency (getting to and from work) and the response was total silence. No 'so sorry, wish we could do better', no 'if we get any cancellation or window of time pops up, we'll get you in'...absolutely no concern for our predicament whatever. We might still be long-time customers had the scheduler at Ashpaugh shown some concern, interest, regret...but total silence was quite the slap in the face.

I apologized that due to a unforeseen shortage in staffing and extreme weather conditions, it did not allow us to provide them the utmost customer service as they had come to realize over the last 20+ years.
