We were very impressed with Jim Carpenter and his Aaron's Electric company. We needed a whole house surge protector installed and Mr. Carpenter was an obvious choice, not due to low price but due to professionalism and obvious "pickiness" on how the job should be done. We wanted a picky electrician. He found a problem with our electrical panel, and let us know about it (It was not a serious issue, but one that could cause us to be without power for a few days at some time in the next year or five years). In no way was he pushy that the problem needed to be fixed right away nor was he demanding that we should hire him to do the job. Mr. Carpenter installed the surge protector and then we had him also installed a new electrical panel. If you want a professional perfectionist and picky Electrician, this is the guy to hire for the job. We were happy we did.
Description of Work: Had whole house surge protection installed as well as a new electrical panel.

Aaron's was really great to work with. We recently purchased the house and they provided several quotes to us and the former homeowners as we moved through the buying process. We initially looking to upgrade some of the outlets in several rooms but upon reviewing the house, the electrician determined that our circuit panel needed to be updated before we could make the other improvements. We moved forward with the work and a three-man crew installed a new circuit breaker panel, raised the external electricity meter to code and installed a new outlet below the panel during the course of 1-day. The group was punctual and provided really good service and quality work.
Description of Work: Installed a new circuit breaker panel, raised external electricity meter in order to meet code, installed new outlet

Wonderful! The story is above.
Description of Work: On Nov. 12, Aaron's Electric came and installed a light fixture in a kitchen in a house were were putting on the market in a few weeks. They did a fantastic job. The were Vvert quick, helpful and efficient. They pointed out some other things that might not pass inspection of the house. On Dec 4, 2012, I had them come back and they did a "whole-house" job. They switched out all plugs, and converted into grounded plugs (used white). I had purchased the switch and outlet plates already for them to install. They put GFI outlets in the 3 bathrooms, in the basement, and hooded GFI outlets on the 20'x20' screen in porch. They worked from 9:30am to 5:00pm. Jim Carpenter, (owner) was working right alongside with 2 other electricians. I was present the whole time as I had other duties to perform to ready this house to be put on the market on Dec. 7, 2012. I very pleased. JIm was kind, patient and explained the duties he was needing to perform and why.

Contacted Jim Carpenter on short notice to install our new hanging pendant light in the foyer. He was able to come by the next day. Once he arrived I asked if he and his assistant could repair and install a chandelier in our kitchen as well. Both jobs completed quickly and i was charged a very competitive price. Great work.

After repairing that problem, we further discovered that the previous electrician had failed to installed the outdoor wiring to code, burying it only a couple of inches below ground rather than burying it to the required depth in conduit. Aaron's fixed this problem as well, allowing us to relocate a plug-in box closer to where it could illuminate a tree. Aaron's also installed another lighting box that had been left for later installation by the landscaper's guy. I was tickled with the outcome - working, beautiful outdoor lighting that was, most importantly, now installed safely and properly. Aaron's also took extra time to explore other outdoor lighting issues and to evaluate the electrical box inside our older home.
Description of Work: A few weeks after our landscaper completed our major yard re-do, the lighting failed. We contacted Aaron's, after procrastinating for a while, and they came out quickly. After assessing the situation, they discovered that our lighting failed because the landscaper's electrician buried a live junction box without proper grounding in an area that was exposed to the rain.

There were no hidden costs. All permits and bonds were included in price and they corrected electric work completed by another company, which had charged an exorbitant amount. This company is very honest, does excellent work, and is only interested in treating people fairly. I had two other quotes from other company's listed on Angie's list that wanted to charge twice the price. In the future I will only be calling on Aaron's to complete my electrical work.
Description of Work: Aaron's Electric upgraded the circuit breaker system installing a modern 40 circuit capacity of 200 AMP. They reconnect existing branch circuit wires to all new circuit system, grounding with two grounding rods and copper grounding conductor to lods. They also installed the required bonding jumper between hot and cold water lines, corrected the water heater feed line in conduit, removed exposed romex wire, labeled circuits at the panel and filed the permit. Also, installed a Sycom Surge protector.

Jim and his team (2 other employees came along with him on the job) are courteous, extremely professional and do excellent work. I had several guests coming for Labor Day Weekend and the handyman I contracted from Angie's List did not return my messages or come back to me on a date from my initial contact in early August. I had several jobs I wanted completed. At the very least, I wanted my chandeliers replaced for the new ones I purchased so I called Aaron's Electric. I have used them in the past 2 or 3 times since I moved to Indianapolis in 2007 and they always do a fabulous job. Jim returned my call that same day I left a message (within a few hours if that). He was also able to fit me in his schedule the very next day which I greatly appreciated. I could have waited until the following week but he had an opening and made it work. Now I am glad it worked out that they did my electrical work and not the handyman's. I always know it's going to be done right by a professional with Aaron's Electric. They also sold me (no high pressure) on dimmer switches on 2 of the chandeliers and I absolutely love them. So glad they suggested and the price was very reasonable. They are worth every penny and I highly suggest and trust them for any electrical needs in my home.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced chandeliers in entry foyer, dining room and kitchen. Provided and installed dimmer switches for kitchen and dining room chandeliers.

We were very pleased with the work done by Tom and Brent/Bret of Aaron's Electrical Services. We had them replace a fluorescent light, an external porch light, and two solar-cell coach lights. Not only did they perform these tasks quickly and professionally, they addressed some other issues with the original lighting by adding electrical boxes behind the coach lights and installed a new solar cell to control those lights. Neither had an issue with me watching their work (because home improvement is an interest to me) and answering my questions. They were punctual and friendly. I was very pleased with the experience and would not hesitate to use Aaron's or recommend them.
Description of Work: florescent light replaced in the kitchen external entryway light replaced 2 coach lights around the garage replaced; electrical boxes added to bring the lights up to code; solar cell added to side of garage to automatically turn lights on and off at dark and morning.

Arrived on schedule and worked to diagnose a dificult missing ground in an electric circuit. Once found, repairs were made with minimal wall damage. The dry wall was cut to make repairs. Repairs could have been made without this, but we discussed the pros and cons and decided that this would be the overall best repair process. While here, he also installed 2 gfci outlets for me. Overall, it was a great job. I would use them again and would recommend them to anyone.

They called ahead and arrived on time! They worked quicly and everthing works well and looks good. They did a good job of cleaning up after themselves. They nice to our two very friendly cats.
Description of Work: The installed a ceiling fan and two florescent fixtures. The ceiling fan installation was difficult and they modify some of the parts because of the angle of the ceiling. In order to install the florescent fixtures they had to fix some problem wiring that had caused the previous fixture to work pooly.

I will add a picture of the kitchen light work by next week. I originally thought that they'd use tube lights like I have seen in other homes. However, they used nifty spotlights (power lighting transformers), and they look really cool. With the lowest setting, we won't have to flip on the bright overhead light in the evening.
Description of Work: Aaron's Electric did a smaller, pressing job for us on 6/29/2012 when our bedroom and dressing area lights went off, and we couldn't turn them back on by adjusting the rocker switch at the fuse box. Two men came out the same day, and made the repair. The chargewas $121.25. I believe that they had a $95.00 minimum housecall charge. They were very pleasant, efficient, and tidy. We told them that we had two other, larger projects in mind, and they said that the company owner could stop by and make estimates. Jim, the owner, came by last week. We accepted the estimates, and the job was set up for both projects for today, 7/10/2012. The first job was a grounding bond connection to the gas line manifold. It also required a second ground rod required by code. This apparently hadn't been required when our house was built 7 years ago, but is now, and the need for this was discovered by Citizen's Gas. They said that the house was in danger if we didn't get this job done. That job was: $533.00. The third job was to put five spotlight fixtures under our cabinets in the kitchen and install a 3 level tap switch, and hide all wires. This job was: $697.00. I gave Aaron's an "A" above under price, but I confess that we didn't get other estimates. However, we are very pleased with the work, and again, the efficiency, and tidiness. Everything was completed with two crews at once between 8:15 a.m., and about 11:00 a.m. today.

Brent was very knowledgeable, efficient, and just plain nice. He explained what he was doing the entire time and showed us the damaged parts. It was a pleasure having someone who really cares about his profession and cares about the customer. He cleaned up all the mess before leaving. Excellent!!
Description of Work: We lost electrical power to one light switch and one plug in our sunroom. Brent found the problem--wires in three gang switch box burned up. He made the repairs and reinstalled a new switch for the light. He also found that the dimmer switch for the fan in the ceiling to regulate the fan speed was not for a fan motor, so he also installed a new dimmer appropriate for the fan motor.

We had had a another electrician out to try to resolve this problem. He was not much use and ruled out trying to find that cut wire. He instead suggested an approach that would have been surface mounted. This electrician immediately used detectors to find the wire and the probable cut. He insisted that we should try this first before trying any work around. Obviously this was preferable to us. We were impressed with his professionalism and his skill.
Description of Work: Came to evaluate and repair an electrical problem. An added on sunroom had underground wiring to our box. The circuit would click off immediately after resetting. The service person had tools to search for the wiring and discovered that it had been cut and poorly repaired. He dug up the cable and repaired it. In the process he showed my husband where something in the box had been wired poorly and dangerously. He was knowledgeable, courteous, and professional.

Response from Aaron's Electric
Im sure anyone who reads my reports will see there is something a little funny about this members comments, it just does not add up. I'll tell my side of the story and you can make your own decision witch one sounds more accurate. A week or so ago this member called my company and talked to me, I'm the only one who answers the phone. She stated at that time she had some plugs and other things not working and she wanted a free estimate. I explained to her at that time we are only able to give free estimates on new installations and her needs would required troubleshooting so I quoted her the service call rates. She said no thank you and she would need to find someone that would quote her a complete up front price. I thanked her for her call and we said good by. well yesterday she called back again stating she had some plugs and things not working and wanted a free in home estimate for her insurance. Again I explained to her we could only give an estimate for new installations and I again quoted her our service call rates. She pressed the issue about our ad stated free estimates, and I as nicely as I could, made several attempts to explain the difference between a new installation and something that requires troubleshooting time. I guess I just could not make her understand that until I find what is causing the problem I'm not able to give her a price and the time it takes to troubleshoot a problem falls under the service call category. She then said all she needs is an estimate to give to her insurance company, they are going to take care of everything. I said we could quote them the service call rates but she would be responsible for our service call and she would have to seek reimbursement from her insurance company. She said you mean you wont bill my insurance company? I said I'm sorry, we operate COD and due to past experience with insurance companies we do not bill them. She kept pressing the issue, THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF IT, THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF IT. I'm, sorry, I said, if you must have someone that bills directly with your insurance company then I dont think we can work togehter, then she hung up on me. In the several times that I tried to explain the difference between new installations and time it takes to troubleshoot a problem I did become a little frustrated with her and I did say I don't work for free and for that I am sorry. I just couldn't make her understand what it takes to troubleshoot and why there is a fee. Please take the time to read every single report listed about us and I'm sure you will see the kind of company you will be dealing with when you call Aaron's Electric. Co.
