I had to be adamant with what volirs I wanted and what exactly I wanted painted. He tried to talk me out of painting some of the trim. He didn't want to paint the cabinets. He didn't put two coats of paint on the walls nor did he primer the walls before painting over existing paint.

Yes, you can touch up a newly painted ceiling, but it's not a common occurrence. If you need to touch up new ceiling paint, be sure to use the original paint. Painting over cracks without repairing them first will simply lead to needing to fix them later. They will reappear in short order. Usually, just a bit of spackle and a putty knife before painting will do the trick. However, if there are significant cracks, find the source of the problem and fix it before moving forward.

You can calculate a painting charge by starting with the square footage of the area you painted. If you painted one room that’s 11x32 feet (132 square feet), charging $5 per square foot would get you $660 in labor costs (132x5). You may also choose to charge extra for intricate work (such as baseboards or crown molding) or painting jobs done in complex locations. Then, you’ll need to charge for the materials used, including primer and paint, and tools like brushes, drop cloths, and ladders.
