Siding Service, Roofing + 1 more
Like many others in our neighborhood, we were approached by this company to inspect for hail damage and offer replacement of siding and roof, if approved by our insurance company. Our insurance approved the roof and 3 sides of house for $10,000. First Choice said they would replace all the siding (all sides) and roof, but no gutters or downspouts for that amount. After signing their 1 page work order and paying our deductible, but before insurance issued a check to us/Mortgage, First Choice proceeded to replace the roof the next day and the siding a couple days after. The work done by the sub contractors (roof and siding) was fine, but getting them to follow-up on any "punch-list' items was extremely difficult, if a work crew was not in the immediate area. The work on house was done by June, we ended up painting the shutters and reinstalling them ourselves.
So, even though the quality of work by sub contractors was adequate, the real problem for us was getting the First Choice owner to provide adequate paperwork back to us for our insurance and mortgage companies. First Choice came back to us also (after work was done) and requested additional money (approx. $11,000) due to new code requirements for the new work as compared to what was in place when the house was originally built, which the insurance company approved and issued a second check for that amount to us/Mortage.
Our mortgage company required an estimate for all work, a signed contract (not work order) and money/checks to be kept as well as other pertinent information until they reviewed and released 1 final check back to us to pay First Choice, which was all very reasonable and professional. It took us until October 2014 to get the required paperwork from First Choice and then a final check for the full amount was given to them in person (they came to our house for it). We thought we were done!
Then in December 2014, an e-mail was received from the owner saying they had not been paid!! After a return e-mail and a phone conversation reminding them that they had received the full amount and had come to our house to get the check. They realized they would not get another check (they had expected a "second" check??) and so after a terse "thanks" from them that was the end of that. I followed up with our insurance company and mortgage and have kept notes/records of everything. We also heard about similar follow-up work and paperwork complaints from our neighbors who hired them. Overall, their office practices and professionalism were very lacking in any kind of organized standards.

Siding Service
The installation process was great. The crew showed up on time and completed the siding install as promised. The gutters were backordered and did not get installed for a few weeks, but eventually were completed as promised. My only problem with the company was getting a final itemized invoice so the insurance company could complete the final payment. As far as I know, there was no invoice and no final payment. If the company is okay with that I guess I am, too. Just seemed a strange way to do business.

Our home insurance company did not approve the claim. After that, the vendor was nonresponsive. We called and asked them to pick up the sample books, which we'd left on the front porch. After two months of waiting, we finally threw them out.
