Erik was great to work with! Very proactive with communicating and scheduling before the visit and answered all my questions in a clear and understanding way. The whole process felt very transparent and I felt as though I knew all the possible outcomes which really game me peace of mind. I hope to not have to deal with mold in the near future or ever again in an ideal world, but I will absolutely be consulting Erik / Green Home Solutions of Chicago if it comes to that.

I contacted Green Home Solutions because we noticed mold in the eaves of our attic. Erik who is the owner of the business came out and gave us a free inspection and quote for mold remediation. I liked the pricing and Erik is very friendly and knowledgeable so scheduled a date to perform the service. Erik and his father Doug work as a team and were great and a pleasure to do business with. They were on time, finished the job a little quicker than anticipated and Erik took some time to show me pictures of the attic and explained process again as I could not go up there immediately. I would absolutely recommend their service and I would add that they are just the sort of family business that I prefer to do business with.

We couldn't be happier with the service that was provided. Even though he was out of town, Erik was super quick to respond to my frantic calls and we quickly scheduled a time for him to come to our home. He examined all areas of the basement and was very clear in explaining what he was doing and why. He was extremely thorough and even helped us with some other areas of the basement that was being demolished, just to lend a hand. He was sensitive to the needs of our family, which includes four children, both in the products he used and the measures he took to seal off the areas in which he was working. I would not hesitate to recommend Erik and his partner for any mold remediation needs, whether it be basement, attic, etc.

It went amazingly well. They were VERY professional and seemed to have a passion for what they do. They were very thorough and informative at every step of the process. They responded very quickly to all my request and kept me updated the whole time. I l ove that this is a eco-friendly approach rather than toxic chemicals. The nice part too was I didn't need to clean or clear things out before they treated my basement.......making it so easy (a real selling point). They took every precaution to make the process safe and effective. I liked the detailed reports too that gave me clear evidence of the improvement. You probably couldn't find a nicer team of providers...very sincere and trustworthy. I have referred them to 2 of my neighbors and both reiterated what I just said. We'd all highly recommend them. The initial visit is at no charge which is nice too. One of my neighbors had that and found she had no mold issue so it saved her a lot of money and time.

The HVAC unit in my condo is housed within a closet. Condensation from the AC backed up due to a clogged drain pipe and went unnoticed for awhile, eventually causing the formation of black mold on the inside wall of the closet as well as on the surrounding wall outside of the closet. I was referred to Green Home Solutions (GHS) by a trusted home inspector I used in the past. In addition, I also got a quote from another mold remediation company, which I'll refer to as XYZ for the purpose of this review. I contacted GHS on the Monday of Thanksgiving week and scheduled an inspection for the next day. I also scheduled XYZ to come out on the same day. Erik from GHS showed up promptly and did a thorough inspection of the affected area. Later that evening, he sent me a detailed findings report and proposal for resolving the problem. Here's an excerpt from the proposal: Treatment will include HEPA vacuum of staining in and around closet as well as throughout main living room. The HEPA vacuuming will ensure that any loose particulate on the walls and floor will be removed and contained. This will improve the health of the area, and help to ensure a safe environment. After this, staining will be cleaned with enzyme based cleaner and drywall at base in closet housing HVAC will be removed. The enzymes in the cleaner are specifically chosen to break down the mold to neutralize it and to assist in removing the staining from the walls. The drywall below the base of the HVAC unit will be removed to provide easier access to the area below the HVAC unit. Area beneath HVAC unit will be HEPA vacuumed and cleaned with cleaner. Area of main closet/living room/kitchen/den/bathroom will be fogged with EPA registered mold cleaner to kill and break down mold. Because the product is delivered through an ultra-fine mist, the product is able to permeate porous materials. Finally, areas of staining will be painted over with antimicrobial paint. This will further ensure that any and all mold has been neutralized. Post-test will be performed upon completion of job by third party company to guarantee that the contamination has been remediated. The price quote from GHS was $913.00, and was based on (1) square footage of area to be treated, and (2) a separate fee for post treatment mold testing by a 3rd party inspector. The other company, XYZ, proposed a more "traditional" approach. Since XYZ's main business was interior restoration due to flood/fire damage, their approach to mold remediation was to rip out and replace the affected drywall, baseboards, and flooring. As the HVAC unit would need to be removed from its closet, this would necessitate disconnecting the entire unit from its various pipes and ducts. Disconnecting the AC would also involve draining the refrigerant from the system and recharging it after it was reconnected. Their price quote: $5100.00. (Of this, the charge for simply disconnecting and reconnecting the HVAC unit was nearly $1600.) Apart from their much more reasonable price, the thing that made GHS the easy choice was (1) their endorsement by my home inspector, and (2) positive reviews of their methodology on the Internet. I called them up the next day and scheduled the service for the day after Thanksgiving. They showed up promptly and performed the services noted above. The final step of fogging the living area required that the apartment be vacated until the next day. The following week, the 3rd-party home inspector (not the inspector that recommended GHS to me) came out and collected air samples from inside and outside the apartment using a spore trap called an Air-O-Cell. (The outside sample was used as a control). These samples were then mailed to a lab in Florida called InspectorLab for analysis. The results came back a few days later and showed the types of fungal organisms detected as well as their counts. Long story short - the types and counts were in the normal range. Overall, my experience with Green Home Solutions was extremely positive. They were prompt, detailed, and professional throughout the entire process. Their technical approach to mold remediation is definitely the way to go.
