"The company was paid to diagnose and fix a leak to my roof. They determined that a small patch of roof needed to be replaced. A couple of weeks later the leak continued from the same spot in the ceiling. The tech again came out and claimed it was another leak in a different spot although the leak inside was in the exact same spot. They did not fix the problem the first time and wanted more money for this “new leak.”"

"We were referred through Menards. Ronald Lyman blamed my husband and told him he burned up the engine. This was a new power wash that was used once and then broke. It was under manufacturer warranty but needed the gas out and something from him saying it was broken for Menards to return. He has hidden diagnostic fees of $40, no contract verbal or written for these fees. He did not tell us about the fees until we were ready to pick it up. I was under the impression that he was contracted through the company and that is how he is paid. He also told my husband that he didn't look how he sounded over the phone. My husband is from Mexico but has lived in the states for over 35+ years as a naturalized citizen. I am so sick and tired of the racism and people being taken advantage of! I have also complained to the BBB. We are taking the pressure washer back to Menards but because he was not willing to give us something that said it was defective we have to trade it for the same model. So we have paid $40 above the price. Ronald Lyman told my husband when he picked it up that he didn't listen just like his wife. He is very disrespectful. Then he tried to say he called the manufacturer and they were not familiar with the engine, that it was made in China dn told him not to get another one."

It’s usually better to repair your generator if it isn’t working properly, as it will typically be much more affordable and should yield similar results. Generator repairs cost around $300 on average, while installing a new whole-house generator costs around $5,000 on average. The only exception is if you know your generator is reaching the end of its useful life, usually between 30 and 40 years. If you have an older generator, you could face multiple repairs in the coming years, which might mean that a full replacement will be more cost-effective over time.

You may need a permit for a portable generator if you’ll be installing a transfer switch for your primary residence or similar work. Otherwise, a permit for other uses may not be necessary. As long as they have enough fuel, whole-house generators can run for weeks at a time (400 to 500 hours) without suffering too much wear and tear. However, this type of extensive use isn’t ideal if you want to extend the life of your generator.

Second, if your generator uses a fuel tank, keep it regularly full so it doesn’t suddenly shut off. Many backup generators can run through a full tank in a day when they are powering large portions of a home.

To power a central air system during a power outage, the whole-house generator will need to be at least 5,000 watts, and this number will significantly increase for larger units. Check the specific wattage requirements of your AC unit to choose the right generator size. Consider consulting a generator installer to ensure your whole-house generator meets your electrical load needs.

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.
