"Bill was very prompt at coming out and giving us an estimate we couldn't quite afford a full deck replacement but he came up with a great idea that would keep us safe and be able to utilize his safety measure in the building of Our Deck next year. "They came when they said they would to look at the damaged siding, gave us the estimate the next day, kept us informed on the status of the material order and repaired the siding the day they said they would. Job quality is good and the price was reasonable. Overall everything was great."

"New walls were built using paneling that matched existing paneling.  I had asked for a 3-foot-high box with removable or hinged lid to be built around the sump pump to keep the cat from playing with it; Jamie recommend a closet instead of a box, which was acceptable to me, and will prove to be a better choice when I have the sump pump discharge rerouted away from sanitary sewer.
Sump pump failed overnight during construction.  I had not moved in yet, so I was glad that the workers altered me.  With my authorization they had a new sump pump installed, removed the soaked carpet, and ran dehumidifiers to dry out the basement.
One door was installed opening opposite my request, but this was too minor a detail to ask for a correction.
New doors and trim were stained and varnished, and all messes were cleaned up completely.  Very happy with the work.  Solar tube (skylight) in bathroom is wonderful!"

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro. 

In most cases, there should be a small gap between the house and the deck, usually no more than ½ to ¾ of an inch. This space allows water and moisture to flow through instead of pooling against the side of your house. It also lets flashing protect your siding from runoff, which is one of the most common issues with decks.

The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). These options are inexpensive, provide excellent drainage, prevent weeds, and help minimize moisture buildup, which reduces shifting and rotting. For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.

Most building codes require that spindles or balusters on deck and stair railings be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard, often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' is designed to prevent small children or pets from slipping through the railing. A good way to visualize this is that a 4-inch sphere should not be able to pass between two spindles. For the same safety reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck floor should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is crucial to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.
