The ceiling was left by another contractor who quit :/ I was brought in to complete the removel and remodel.
The wall to wall mirror was tar/glued to the wall and was very carefully cut away and demolished safely.

Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. Testing whether your chosen paint will stick on an inconspicuous section or a spare board is a good idea.
