Got a quote from BigGuy D and they did notice the 2:12 roofing section and quoted ice and water shield underneath that section.
Neither pointed out that the roof above the porch and the carport roof were missing roof ventilation which had caused subtle shingle curling at the corners.
Exiting roof was an unusual color that matched brick and existing trim. BigGuy F only wanted to use Owens Corning, BigGuy D only GAF. Being an overly analytical person, I just wasn't happy with the color choices of either manufacturer and they didn't seem to want to work with me. Because of the great experience I had with Kreative Construction on our rental home a few weeks earlier, I called the owner. Owner Sean worked with me for a week or two (I'm sure I must have driven him crazy) and with his help, I finally decided that the 3:12 pitch could go w/architectural shingles, and the 2:12 with metal. After 3 or 4 color samples I finally settled on Certainteed Landmark burnt Senna color and a complementary Mansard Brown metal roof over the 2:12.
Took about a week to complete the project, with 4 works present during the first 3 or 4 days and 2 for the metal roof installation.
Great job. Certainly more expensive than just a plain jane 3-tab. But, i've got a 40 year roof and complementary metal section that enhances the look of the house and improves curb appeal. Great custom work.
Went great. Took about 4 days to complete with a crew of 4 for the first 2 days and 2 for the last two days. They took their time and did it right.
Business Owner was very helpful in selecting materials. He found a close out sale on Certainteed Landmark Pro and we were able to install a 50 year architectural shingle for the price of a 3-tab!!!!! I suggested synthetic underlay vs felt paper and owner was most willing to make that change and indeed recommended it as a much better product..
I obtained quotes from Findlay and Dr. Roof. Both wanted an arm and a leg for the extra repair work needed for the chimney cricket and the gables. Findlay wouldn't quote the extra work and recommended a 3rd party, but never sent me that persons name. Findlay also never responded to my email with questions about the quote and work. Neither quoted repairing the Chimney (which was needed).
I also liked having workers onsite that spoke English and were easy to communicate with. No Subcontractors.
Got a great custom job at a very good price. With chimney repairs and gable replacement, synthetic underlay (not felt) and 50 year shingles I got a much better, more long lasting product than I would have received from the big guys at a very similar price.
Plan to use this contractor to do my personal residence soon, also....after seeing the results on this rental.
