"I am very sorry for the inconvenience, we do have a new collection manager and they are straightening up the receivables and unfortunately there were some data entry errors in the past. I apologize for the inconvenience and sincerely appreciate your cooperation."
The quote was given over the phone and was free. Very knowledgeable and explained several options. Basically the quote (of $2,600) to replace the entire unit and condensing coils was less than another company quoted me to replace the compressor alone ($2,689). That other companies price included refrigerant R-22 (which was already there--only needed to be captured and re-injected). That company also charged me $79.95 to come out to perform diagnostics to verify what I already told them. I told them this happened before (last summer) and what it was since the wire that burned off was hanging loose in the air conditioning unit.. It was very apparent. Hammock's quoted $1,000 for the compressor replacement, but gave the other options. They did not play the game and I applaud them.
Hammock's called when on the way, arrived on time, completed the job as promised, cleaned up, and the system is working fine. I feel very comfortable that if any issues arise, they will back up their work. This is a very respectable company. I enjoyed working with them and highly recommend them to anyone needing HVAC work. Someone I work with recommended them to me and I will pay that forward. These folks are top shelf.
Chip came by to help out at one point, and all is well with a nice cool house again! :-)
The first tech Hammocks sent out came into my house and stood in the foyer. He asked questions about why I felt the system wasn't cooling like it did in the past. I noted it just didn't feel as cool-the bathroom in the foyer for example-we keep the door closed and it is normally freezing in there-no more. I went on to tell him we had the thermostat set to have the ac turn on if it got over 80 in the day time. At night we have it set to go 68. With every question I referred him to the thermostat as it was scheduled and he just had to look. Finally, he looked at me and said, "I don't mess with them." He then went outside, called his service manager and came back in to tell me that the system could not do a 20 degree change in the period of time I was asking it to do it. I said to get it from 80 to 68 is 12. He said don't matter it can't do it. I replied that it hadn't had trouble the last two summers doing it. He said all he could tell me was it had nothing to do with they did several weeks ago when they came out to service the unit. I told him he did not know that since he has done nothing since arriving at my house. He said I'd have to decide if I was going to pay for his service call. I asked him to leave my house immediately and I called Hammock. I spoke with the service manager, Kenny. Kenny told me that Fred did not explain the 20 degree thing right and went on to explain what he meant. I told him that all was fine, however, the unit cooled better the last few summers, the tech did not look at anything, both the people that answered the phone and the tech both made comments regarding money and if I was going to pay, and point blank I was not a happy camper. Kenny talked over me during much of my comments. I asked him to stop and listen to what I was saying as I did not just wake up one day and say, "Let's go mess with Hammocks-the air wasn't working right and the tech you sent was ridiculous." When Kenny continued to talk over me I asked to speak with his boss. I was told that was the owner and I left my name and number for him to call me. Several hours later the owner called. He said what I told him did not sound like Fred, the tech they had sent. That did not sit well me. Here I have purchased a unit, I have paid for them to service the unit, and now I just want someone who knows what they are doing to come and look at it and fix it. Hammock's treated me like I was a pain in their rear. I told the owner I had a bad taste in my mouth regarding them, however, send the next tech out. Again, I got the impression he didn't want to have to listen.
Hammocks next tech came out. By this time the unit had completely stopped working. He said, "Who installed this unit? Horrible job. Five leaks, wrong filter in (they serviced 4 weeks earlier), filters that were too small and fallen through were stacked up in the bottom of the unit, no one has ever cleaned the pump and the coils were frozen." He could not help though, because his job was just to assess the problem and get back to Kenny. Kenny called the next day and sent the next tech out the following day. These techs also spoke of what a horrible job the installer had done, therefore all the leaks. They noted the pump had never been cleaned and by the looks of it, it was the pump from the last unit. I remember speaking with the sales guy when I purchased the unit and believed he was putting a new pump on the unit as part of the package. Another issue with integrity with Hammocks. These techs could not believe the techs before them left the filters in the bottom of the unit, not to mention how poorly their peers had soddered the fittings.
The techs began repairing the five leaks and found a sixth one in the wall going from the unit straight into the wall. They would repair that one for $300. The tech noted he thought it probably began leaking because the install guy probably tugged, pushed and pulled on the line. As I could not prove that was what happened I agreed to pay the $300 to repair it. In order to fix it they had to cut a hole in the sheetrock and I would be responsible for repairing. As these techs were repairing the line in the wall, they set the insulation in the wall on fire. TheY grabbed the garden hose and spayed it into the wall until they felt they put the fire out. The water did what water does and fell down the wall. Hammocks refused to even look at how much damage was done by the water or the fire. As I could not leave water in the wall to mold and the insulation that burned needed to be replaced I had to have it repaired at the cost of $500. I still have to paint the wall.
Hammocks had to return after the final repair because the unit was whistling. On further examination it appeared that the area that the filter went was not installed properly, thus all the problems with the filters in the last 2 1/2 years, and the last group of techs did not get it right either. The tech that came on the 5th visit bent the metal, or rigged it so to say, so that it would not whistle anymore.
Five visits to my house from Hammocks. Five half days off of work. Leak in the wall probably done by Hammocks on my dime. Fire and water damage on my dime. And Hammocks thinks I'm a pain in the rear.
Hammock?s Heating & Air Inc, was responsive, competitive prices, good location.
I have used them in the past.
