At the conclusion of the work, he offered me his bucket of creosote to use in the garden. I added it to our compost pile. He also observed several other roof related problems, flashing and siding, that were unrelated to his profession. I appreciated this consulting. The service report was filled out completely, documented that he had removed 1 gallon of creosote. Thomas included Todd Lewis's business card and I asked about the insert manufacturer names cited. He was quick to explain the quality and pricing levels.
Positives: Thomas was on time, did not dawdle, communicated well, helpful in pointing out problems and left no doubts about his competence.
Improvement Recommendations: Only acceptable payment methods were cash or check. As easy as cellphone apps can now be used to accept credit/debit cards, I would recommend this means of payment be added.
Thomas, the individual providing the service, called to see if arriving early was suitable. He was knowledgeable, professional, and performed the work in a quick, efficient manner. We had agreed on chimney cleaning and flashing guard. Thomas inspected the chimney, told me it had a little buildup but did not really need cleaning. Also, the seal around the flashing appeared to be in good condition - no apparent need there either - and suggested I pay for the chimney inspection and that would close the transaction. I had the chimney cleaned anyway (wife's request to me); Thomas could have just as easily not said anything and performed both services, or tried to move me up to a higher priced service. He made sure I knew all of the associated prices before he started work.
Thomas had a later appoint on a very tight schedule and offered to come back at another time to complete the flashing guard application. I decided to skip the flashing guard altogether - I'd call later if needed. We left it at if we do decide to have flashing guard applied, call them and they will come back and do the job at a discount.
Todd and another gentleman arrived on time, were very professional and thorough. He explained what they were going to do. They were respectful of our home and there was zero mess... It took about an hour to clean. They went up on our 2 story roof and did a full inspection. When complete he gave us all the details, educated us on a few things... but there was nothing alarming or that needed to be done immediately. Just maintenance type things and that it might be a good idea to do a waterproof treatment. We will probably call him back in the spring - when his schedule slows down - to do that. He made us aware of a few cracks but assured us that they were nothing to worry about but keep an eye on.
We would surely use TnT again and highly recommend them... I found them to be high in integrity which is hard to come by these days!
The sweeps arrived on time and conducted themselves in a professional and polite manner. After performing a visual inspection of the inside of our house, they were able to give us an estimate about the history of our fireplace and chimney (we later confirmed this history by consulting with previous owner, and surprisingly everything they brought up was true).
We took a trip up to the roof where the inspection continued and where they continued to give advice and insight as to standard chimney designs and practices. What I respected the most in how they gave advice was how forthcoming they were in what was possible for us to do as homeowners versus what might be a better idea to contract out. They were knowledgeable about general prices at hardware stores (later confirmed correct) and about estimates for work. I really felt that this level of honesty reflected a high level of ethics and trustworthiness.
After concluding the inspection, we gave the OK for them to move forward with the cleaning. They were very considerate about the interior of our home and took multiple measures to prevent ash, creosote, and other debris from entering our living areas. The fellow who did the sweeping and cleaning of the bottom of the fireplace did a very commendable job (our fireplace was very dirty), and I could tell afterwards that he really spent the extra time and effort to make sure they left our fireplace safe and in working order.
When the cleaning was complete we accepted their offer to "test" our fireplace (we're new homeowners and had not done so before), and it was a really great feeling to know not only that our fireplace worked but that it was safe to operate. Additionally, might I add, the fire started faster than nearly any fire I've seen. Truly professionals in the chimney business!
I would not hesitate to call TnT Quality Services again, no matter if I'm getting a standard cleaning or if I'm getting more serious flue work. If only all contractors were as honest, reliable, knowledgeable, and trustworthy as these folks.
