Mike Dieter began work in September 2003. He assured me that he had people lined up to do the work and he told me the total cost would be around $25,000. My mistake was in not asking for a detailed estimate. As the weeks dragged by, very little work was done. Days on end went by when no one came to do any work. The building inspector would arrive, comment on all the items not done correctly, and leave again. One day I phoned Mr Dieter to see when he would be over to do some work. He grew so angry and told me never to call him when he was busy getting supplies for my home. I was supposed to intuitively know when he was out buying supplies! Finally, in December, he arrived with his attorney and told us that he was leaving the job. We were so glad to see him go that we did not complain. I then had to hire another contractor to finish the work. The total cost of around $25,000 mushroomed to $50,000 and part of that was because work that Mike Deiter had done had to be corrected - e.g. doorways that were out of plumb.
