Erby Scoggins did a terrible job on my house. I was given his name and number by the sales representative at Key James Brick Company and trusted the referral. Erby quoted me $5500 to remove all vinyl siding and replace with beautiful Horizon stone with a completion date of 10/31/13. Erby came to my house on 10/25/13 and removed all vinyl siding from around my front door and 2 side walls that make up the entrance way into my house. He collected $2800 from me for supplies and left after telling me he would return on Monday, 10/28/13. Scaffolding was left on the front of the house which blocked the front door and created a safety concern for anyone trying to enter and leave my home. Erby did not return to my house on Monday 10/28/13. I waited several hours and called him to find out where he was. He gave me the excuse that his truck was broke down. All materials and tools existed at my house so there was no need for a truck other than general transportation to the jobsite. Throughout the entire job, Erby kept asking me for more money. I told him that I wasn't going to pay until the job was completed and his response was that he couldn't make payroll that way. He was very unprofessional, rude and sarcastic when speaking with me. Erby showed up between 9 and 9:30am and left between 4pm and 5pm most days with a 1 hour lunch break. He and his crew stepped on all of my landscaping lights and crushed them. His broken down truck left grease spots all over my driveway. Mortar and chalky residue has covered my brick steps and will have to be cleaned. The craftsmanship, selection and placement of the stone work is terrible. There are broken edges that resemble a wasp nest and are concrete gray that are exposed and ugly. Mortar work is sloppy and exists on a lot of the stone. I questioned Erby about some of the craftsmanship and he was argumentative and sarcastic. Erby finished the job on Thursday evening, 11/07/13 and called me asking for the balance of the money that I owed him. I told him that I could not pay him yet because I needed time to review the job (in daylight) to determine if it was completed and fine tune an areas that needed attention. There were areas on the walls that were missing stones, stones that had fallen from the walls, mortar that was applied in a sloppy way and general bad craftsmanship that needed to be addressed. Erby became angry and told me that he was coming to my house to get his money that night. I asked him to meet me the next morning, Friday 11/08/13 so that we could review the job in the daylight and he agreed then hung up the phone after saying that he would only spend 20 minutes or so tweaking any inperfections that I found. He said there was nothing wrong with the job and that he wanted his money. I felt very uncomfortable around this man and no longer wanted him around me or on my property. I put blue painters tape on areas that needed rock or mortar to make it easier for Erby to make corrections. He showed up Friday morning and in a big hurry put sloppy mortar in the areas that I had taped, without removing the tape. I now have blue tape hanging out of some of my mortar. He also stuck ugly rock chips in areas that I had taped. The job is an aesthetic nightmare. I have had many friends and neighbors say "it looks good from the street". They are right. It does. However, as you come closer to my home, the errors in judgement and poor craftsmanship become more and more visable. If I could do anything different, I would have done more research on Erby Scoggins and gotten more options for the application of the stone. Now that I have had numerous contractors come to my home to give me opinions, I have learned that Erby Scoggins has a terrible reputation in the stone and brick industry. Unfortunately, I am finding this out after the fact. I am here today to submit my review in hopes of helping someone else avoid the hurt feelings and frustration that I have experienced at the hand of Erby Scoggins.
