The electrician called early in the half hour appointment window and arrived promptly after the call. He was pleasant and efficient. He put assembled the fan and installed it. The electrician also diagnosed a problem with a light switch and provided a work around. (It required a new dimmer switch. But the cost for the replacement was a bit high: $35 for a switch that costs $12 at the hardware store. This was something I could replace myself
Description of Work: Installed new ceiling fan.

David was our technician. He immediately found the problem. Squirrels had chewed through all but one strand of the neutral wire of the electrical line from the street. He reported this as an emergency to Georgia Power. They were there in 15 minutes to repair the problem. Had this neutral wire completely broken, it would have burned out any appliance with a motor that we owned. While they were there, we had them install a new telephone jack and replace a dimmer. David and his helper were very courteous and did a good job. In my opinion though, the price for the work seemed a little high.
Description of Work: We had surges and flickering with our lights any time an appliance or furnace motor kicked on.

This house had only two outlets in the kitchen and some bad wiring. The technician came on a Friday, gave us the estimate, we agreed and on Tuesday he began work. I was very impressed, from the moment he arrived at approximately 8:30 until 4:30 that afternoon, he worked non stop, going up and down the attic, running wires through the walls in the kitchen. We were still remodeling so he left everything set up while we completed the counters and cabinets. After two weeks we finally finished and called the company. Calvin returned, connected the dishwasher and outlet covers and we were set to enjoy a functional kitchen.
Description of Work: Calvin installed six new outlets with three breakers in my kitchen and replaced the 220 wiring for the stove. He also did the wiring for the dishwasher.

Excellent service overall. They showed up promptly as scheduled. They were very polite. They accepted the Angie's List 10% off coupon after checking with their headquarters. They appeared not to be familiar with the coupon.

We priced it out against another company, and Pat Murphy's prices were much better, plus they had more suggestions about some of our electrical issues could be resolved. I was able to schedule it at a time convenient for me. The electrician cleaned up after himself very well, and was polite and courteous. Originally, the receptionist told me the whole thing would only take a day, but it took a day and a half in the end, including two trips by the electrician to the store. I think the panel took longer than expected. Overall, I was very satisfied with the price and the work.
Description of Work: We had the electrical panel replaced, several GFI outlets installed, two rotary dimmers replaced, a roof ventilator installed, and an in-wall space heater removed.

David was very professional and efficient. He called and arrived on schedule both times he had to come out to perform the work described.
David Pope showed up right on time, was pleasant, and showed me every step of the way what he was doing, what the problem was, what needed to be done, and the cost. The price included the 10% discount for Angie's List members.
Description of Work: Replaced 200 amp main breaker. This was the result of the power going off three times over a two hour period during normal use. Once the situation was checked out, the service tech. Showed me that portion of the breaker that was slowly burning away due to unsecured wiring going into the breaker.

Jimmy, the electrical tech, phoned ahead and was here as promised. He was very polite, professional and I felt that he did the necessary rewiring to correct the problem. I was quoted the charge from the office for service to be an initial charge of $135 for the first hour and $80 per hour there after, plus materials. When they arrived there were two men, and thus the charges were more. It is okay, as the ovens are heavy to remove. I guess that it takes two to work with them. Overall, I would call the company again and I am pleased with their service. (Suggestion on charges, perhaps mention that it may be necessary to have two service techs which could reflect the charges).
Description of Work: Following an electrical storm, my wall ovens were not heating. I called Pat Murphy and was told that they do not repair appliances. I explained to the receptionist that the oven lights and clocks were lighting up, but the ovens were not heating. I then called an appliance repair service, they said that they were unable to repair the ovens and they probably needed to be replaced. I then purchased 2 new wall ovens, and when the installer put them in the same problem existed. It was then determined that they were only receiving 110 voltage and they would need to be rewired. I then called Murphy again and scheduled a rewiring. I wish the receptionist had scheduled the electric service to be checked, then I would not have had the $1600 expense of new ovens plus the rewiring (note: the installer said that they could do the rewiring for $200). I preferred to call Murphy as they had good ratings and they were licensed (thus, I have expended an additional $115.54 plus the new ovens).

Unfortunately, I required a return visit due to a fixture that didn't work after the visit. In doing the troubleshooting, a wire came loose in a fixture that previously worked. A representative returned fixed the problem with no charge. He was extremely helpful.
Description of Work: Tightened loose wire in panel. Corrected multiple wiring problems in outlets. Changed out three outlets due to no grounding, apparently there was a broken ground wire within the wall. I decided not to go into walls to correct the problem.

The technician did impeccable work, taking great care that a) there were no surprises of which I was unaware, including cost, and b) that there be no mess when he finished. (He even wanted to vacuum the floor!) He provided the most outstanding and courteous service I have ever received. Pat Murphy Electric is now ''my electrician.''

The receptionist who answered the phone let me explain, what I thought the problem was and said that it would be a $135.00 service call before any work was done. I asked about the $49.95 amount shown in the Angie's List ad and she replied most customers don't want to pay by the hour, that information was not included in the ad. I said no thank you and called Carroll Electric (saw a sign in a neighbor's yard and got an excellent recommendation and the number). Steve Carroll called and asked, if I had checked the reset button on the outlet. I had not but while he was waiting on the phone, I did and reset it and that was the end of my problem, no cost. THAT is the kind of company that will get my business in the future. This is the second time I have found an Angie's List member to be more interested in the money than tying to discern whether a service call is actually needed. When I called a plumber, he just asked my zip code then said they didn't serve my area, although I am in Fulton.
Description of Work: No work performed.

Scheduled three weeks in advance and offered a date the week I was scheduling. Even though they knew the job that was to be done, the installer didn't make sure he had the proper equipment on his truck. This had caused him to either reschedule for the next day with additional worker to help him out or to go pick it up and come back. The installers went about and beyond the call of there job. Even though they aren't required to patch the holes in the drywall that they made, the installer had done so on my job.

Prompt, efficient, electrician was extremely professional and polite. Cleaned as he went, drew up a quote for each job and stuck with that quote. In fact, one job turned out to be easier than he thought and he DROPPED the price for that job by 25 percent. Another job was much tougher than he anticipated, but he stuck with the original quote without question. Extremely pleased with the company and the electrician who came. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

PAT AND TIM WERE THE ELECTRICIANS. THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONABLE. THE JOB TOOK A GOOD 5 HOURS, INCLUDING A RUN TO GET MORE PARTS AND A LUNCH BREAK. ALTHOUGH THEY COST A LITTLE MORE THAN OTHER ELECTRICIANS I TALKED TO, I FELT THEY WERE WORTH IT BECAUSE OF THEIR PROFESSIONALISM AND RELIABILITY. THERE WERE NO SURPRISES WITH THE COST BECAUSE I HAD ALREADY GOTTEN AN ESTIMATE BEFOREHAND. EACH ITEM WAS PRICED, NOT PER HOUR. AND ALL THE WORK IS WARRANTED FOR 1 YEAR. PAT WAS THE ONE THAT GAVE ME THE ESTIMATE, AND DID THE WORK AS WELL. HE WAS GREAT AT LISTENING TO WHAT I WANTED DONE. HE EVEN GAVE ME BETTER SUGGESTIONS THAT WOULD BE CHEAPER AND/OR MORE PRACTICAL. I AM GOING TO USE THEM AGAIN.
Description of Work: ADDED 4 NEW LIGHT FIXTURES: 2 PULL CHAINS AND 2 FLUORESCENT LIGHTS W/ SWITCHS, ALL TO AREAS WITH NO EXISTING ELECTRICAL WIRING. TROUBLE-SHOT: OVERHEATED LIGHT SWITCH-PLATE, LIGHT-SWITCH NOT CONNECTED TO ANYTHING AND OUTDOOR LIGHT THAT DIDN'T WORK. FIXED THE OUTDOOR LIGHT, WHICH WAS INCORRECTLY WIRED. TOLD ME HOW THE OTHER 2 PROBLEMS NEEDED TO BE FIXED. UNFORTUNATELY, DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS ON THEM TO FIX THEN AND THERE. I SUPPLIED ALL LIGHTING FIXTURES.
