Working on older homes, particularly those approaching 100 years, takes a special skill set. We found out the hard way that not all home painters and restoration “experts” know how to deal with an old one. Jeff and his team are amazing and easy to work with. Jeff is onsite doing the actual work every day which is a huge benefit. He is good at problem solving on the job and works really hard. An excellent painter, he takes on a project as though it was his own home. And he is completely honest and fair, which is rare. The exterior of our old house looks fabulous and we will have him back to attack the interior. We would highly recommend him.

Jeff and his team did a great job, and my house looks fantastic. Jeff was professional, punctual, responsive, and honest at all times. He obviously has a lot of experience working on old houses, and had good ideas on how to maintain the character of the house. Jeff and his team did not rush through the job, but worked hard to get everything done with high quality and within my budget. They cleaned up and put everything back in place when they were finished. Jeff was very easy to work with, and I will definitely hire him again to work on my house in the future.

I was impressed with his quality. I didn't count the hours, but there was a crew of 3 (including Jeff) full time for about 3 weeks. He learned to paint on aircraft, which has high specifications. So he sands everything until he sees the paint "feathering". If any layer of paint has sharp edges, he sands it more. Sharp edges mean that that layer is not properly bonded to the layer below. Because of this, he bids lower than his real cost (but still high) and then he tries to get healthy by recommending additional work. Somewhat like a store that offers a sale to get you in the door. In any case you will get the best quality possible.
The downside is that he did not want a contract, which makes it tricky to remember exactly what was agreed to. Then he got some approvals from my wife that I would not have approved. Also I had negotiated a lower price on the carport ceiling and he gave my wife a guilt trip till I paid him more. He is an honest man and he won't cheat you or do poor work, but the manipulation left me with a sour taste in my mouth.
Bottom line is that I am very happy with all the work, even the work he talked me into, and I like Jeff, but next time I will insist on a contract to control costs better.

My experience with him was fine. I did not end up using his services. I just thought he was just a little high. His professionalism was fine.

I don't think he wanted to do the work. He was too expensive. He doesn't want to fix things but instead he just want to replace a lot of stuff.
Response from JEFF KILPATRICK PAINTING & RESTORATION
"This estimate involved Components that were outside my area of expertise. I did not feel comfortable bidding on this job. I do not believe the outcome would be good. I will only work where I have a vision of a successful outcome."

They came out, talked to us, and gave us a quote. They seemed legit and we don't have any complaints. They seemed to be professional and cordial.

I am totally thrilled with my new carport! He did a wonderful job! It ended up costing more than originally estimated, but that was not his fault. The original contractor made a mess of the concrete. I would absolutely hire Jeff again. I think he is an absolutely fair and moral man who goes the extra mile! I trust him.
