All Star Home Inspections

He was supposed to show up at 10am and showed up around 9 instead. I wasn't home, since he was scheduled to come at 10. According to my wife, he looked at some water damage on a wall inside, then walked around the outside of the house for a bit. He told her what he thinks, she paid him $150 and he left. My wife texted me when he got there and texted me when he left, so I know for certain he was there for only 26 minutes.
I later called to ask him what he thought. Phone call lasted about 5 minutes, then I got an email with the inspection report which consisted of about two sentences and no photos or anything.
I expected something a little more thorough for $150. I'd feel bad charging someone $150 for so little time and effort. I was especially disappointed because I'd used All Star before and I really liked them the first time. I was charged $70 for a "limited" inspection that time, and that inspection was much much more thorough than this one was.
He's a nice guy but I was pretty disappointed with this experience.

They were very detailed oriented. Showed us even small thing that we could fix after closing ourselves. totally trusted them. They are coming back for a for another inspection after the work is done($75) to see it is completed correctly. They put us at ease. Would recommend them to every one!!!

Mr Tolbert and his assistant performed an 11 month warranty inspection of our home in about an hour and he sent me a report on the findings the same night. There were no surprises. I was already aware of everything he found, save one issue on the vinal siding. Since it was a new home, I expected the report to have minimal findings. That's a good thing, after all.
Pros: We'll be moving soon and renting our home so the certified inspection has given me peace of mind. It is good to have a certified report on hand prior to getting tenants so we have something to refer to if issues come up later. Mr Tolbert took time to talk and answer any questions. He gave us some good advice on other issues that affect landlords, i.e. getting the HVAC serviced annually, replacing air filters, painting tips, carpeting, keeping extra light bulbs and batteries on hand for smoke alarms. We're new at the landlord business so all of the advice was much needed and appreciated.
Cons: No big issues. The fee was a little high - he quoted $400 but gave us a $100 discount for being military. I received two other quotes from other home inspection services for $250. Even so, I decided to go with All Star because it had great reviews on Angieslist. Also, his responsivenes was also a bit delayed. I got a voicemail every time I called and it took a full day to return my call following the inspection. Again, small potatoes.

I have a screen porch measuring 20' x 30' with a low-slope shed roof. A sizable tree limb fell and punctured the porch roof. I decided that I wanted to replace the asphalt composition shingle system with a metal roof because I thought metal would perform better over time on the low slope. I contacted several roofing contractors and the general response was that this job was too small or that they were going to have to charge me a premium to tie up their labor on less than a full day's work. One estimate was $3,200, over 3 times what I ended up spending. Based on the economic climate, I honestly expected a more willing response from the roofing contractors. They also hesitated or refused to recommend anyone else to do the work. I found All Star Home Inspections through a friend. Owner Chuck Tolbert came out and estimated the job promptly. He scheduled the work twice on days when there ended up to be rainfall but kept in close contact to reschedule and was able to perform the work on the third attempt. When they removed the old shingles, they found more underlayment damage than they had anticipated. Nevertheless, the work was completed in the same day. The color of the metal roof is perfect and I feel like I'm never going to have to worry about this roof again.
