I found this company to be very unethical, and I would not recommend them to anyone. Doug, from Atlanta South, came to give me an estimate for a new garage door. Although he showed me several pictures and gave me a general estimate, he did not put anything in writing. I told him I liked the garage door, but I wanted an estimate in writing before we came to an agreement. He told me he would email it to me the next day (Tuesday). He did not. When I called him, he said he was busy on a roofing job, but he would send it to me. I said again that although I would love to have it fixed that week, I would not agree to anything before seeing the estimate in writing. He never sent it to me. Instead, on Thursday (while I was not home), his employees broke down my garage door, took it away, installed a new door, and left me a bill. The bill was much higher than what we had discussed. I had never seen an estimate, nor had I signed anything authorizing work on my home. In hindsight, I should have filed a police report. I did not file a report, but I did call to discuss this and the bill. The first several times I called, he was 'in a meeting'. When I stated that my next call would be to the police, he was available to speak to me. I told him that I refused to pay the amount on the bill. He did tell me to pay whatever I thought was fair. Legally, I did not owe him anything. (I checked on this. Because I did not authorize the job, I was not required to pay.) I did pay the amount we had discussed, but I did not pay the inflated costs listed on the bill. I wish that was the end of the story. Last month, a friend staying at my house called me in a panic. The garage door had jumped the rails and was partially hanging outside the house. My neighbor fixed it before I was able to get home, but it did mark the paint outside the garage door. The reason it had skipped the rails was because each plate, which should have been stabilized with 4 large bolts, contained only 1 or 2 bolts. It only took a few dollars and a trip to Home Depot to fix the mistake. It would not have taken much effort for them to install it correctly! I realize now I should have reported this to both the BBB and the police. I am now in the process of filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but it may be too late. I have shared this experience with all my friends and neighbors. I wanted to share it with everyone on Angie's List, too. I have had many great experiences with contractors; this is the only time I have had a negative experience with any contractor. If you live in the Hamilton Mill area, you should ask who owns the dry cleaning company near Starbuck's. I used to use their services, but when I discovered who owned it, I found another dry cleaning company.
