$300
Terribly. I was changed $300 in advance before they would even come out. When the technician arrived he started trying to up-sell me to a new elevator before he even looked at the existing system, and he did nothing during the visit except to disable it. It took me months to get a written estimate (for $1500) out of them, and they never honored a single estimate, written or verbal, they made. Every time I asked them they would say "Well, you shouldn't have been told that, because we can't fix only that", and insisting my elevator wasn't "up to code" and that they couldn't work on it without bringing it "up to code" first, which of course involved thousands of dollars. At one point they told me a new motor had to be bought from a company selling elevator motors, and that they could get me a new motor for around $950, but that I would have to install it myself. However, when I called and asked about ordering the motor I was told that I "shouldn't have been told that" because they couldn't get one for me. As it turned out, the motor actually was not hard to find or install, and I got a motor identical to the original motor for $600 (including shipping) from a local electrical supply company. It became obvious to me that American Elevator simply did not want to repair my existing elevator. They wanted to charge me upwards of $6000 for a new one. After the motor was installed (by us), we discovered that the call buttons no longer worked (though they had worked before American Elevator had come out). I called them to insist their agent come back and undo whatever he had done to disable them, and he denied having done anything except flip the breakers. By this time I had been dealing with trying to get American to fix it for two years, mainly because they told me originally that they were the only company in the state who worked on Waupacas. This turned out not to be true. Angry and frustrated, I called around and got a recommendation for another company (Blue Moose) and called them to come out and re-enable the call buttons that had been disabled, and Blue Moose handled everything within an hour for only $225. The call buttons were not working because a relay on top of the cab had been disabled, and I was told it was highly unlikely that this had happened accidentally. American Elevator never actually did anything to repair my elevator, and I would never again hire them or recommend them to anyone at all.

Jim Graff personally assisted us through the entire process, even going beyond the call to help us investigate several homes for suitability for elevator installation. His company is highly professional, uncompromising about safety, and provides the best product we could find. Their workmanship and woodwork are outstanding. His installers and service personnel are skilled and knowledgable. These guys care about their customers and their product, and it shows. Recommended without reservation.

The repairman worked diligently to find the broken part for the 28 year old dumb waiter. Probably went out of his way to diagnose the problem and get the part, however dealing with the customer service area of the company was unpleasant. There was need for constant follow up because of a lack of communication with what was going on and in addition they required payment up front each time before they would even schedule an appointment to come out. The dumb waiter was finally repaired satisfactorily 6 to 8 weeks later.

I have arthritis and American Elevator of Atlanta has been a life saver for my needs. They are very careful and thorough in their inspections. They make sure everything is up to standard. They are very neat and very nice. I like that the same people come each time. They are very reliable. I pay an annual fee.
