Showed up on time and completed the job. Did an excellent job of taping to protect items that weren't resurfaced.

Unique Refinishers did a great job. They came out the very next day after I called, and in about 4 hours, they made the bathtub accessible. They just cut a 24 inch wide opening in the bathtub. It looks professional. Now there is a 4 inch curb from the floor, which is easy for my mom to step over. They also included a grab bar. This (a) cutout was a much better solution, and at least $8,700 cheaper than (b) the walk-in shower "solution" proposed by awful Aging in the Home Remodelers (see my review on them).

In my later years I have had to redo my bathroom, Unique Refinishers cut down my bathtub to make it accessible to step into...put up grab bars and I love it!  This has made my life so much easier.  They did it in one day and I could use it the next day!  I couldn't ask for better service and cost...way cheaper than installing a new shower!  They were very professional, clean and well mannered!

First - the provider provided an estimate that ended was unclear.  In retrospect, this was possibly done on purpose.  When the work was estimated we talked about the bathroom counter AND the sinks, as well as a tile tune-up to shower tiles.  He stated he could do this and that "he could do the sinks so only I would know that there was a scratch."   This was a high quote, and I had gotten some other quotes, so I sincerely believed this estimate was for the entire counter + sinks.  (The counter is not very large)  I also made a cardinal mistake of not re-confirming and assuming the work was for the bath counter and sinks.
When Unique Refinishers arrived, the lead tech stood over me and said that the quote was only for the sinks.  At this point I was on a timetable and had not engaged the alternate Company that I had also gotten (now - much better) quote from, and I reluctantly and now regret terribly - said to go ahead.  They proceeded with the work but never communicated some key things.
  1. -They removed my drains by cutting them out and not enabling me to re-use them and never told me.
  2. -They also dislodged  bathtub controls and I was unable to figure out how to re-assemble -- and never mentioned

The lead tech called me in after the work was done, and I looked at both the sinks and the shower.  I noticed air bubbles, holes, swirls/irregularities in the edging on the sink and pointed it out.  The tech said that would "resolve itself after awhile. He has been doing this for 25 years."  I accepted that - as I had no reason to not believe this.  The shower had areas that were missing, some stains were not removed and a crack was not filled.  Again, the tech said once I washed  the shower it should all look fine.  They had a special product that did not require sealing and the off color would wash away.  He also said he could come back if it turned out to be a big issue for me.  When I asked if he could caulk the bath counter (where sinks were 4 lines of caulk - nothing major here) the tech stated that he already packed away his caulking material and the shower installers would have caulk and they could do that for me.   (I had just paid $95 extra to caulk less than 3 feet around the tub.)
The next few days, I noticed the sink becoming dull and scratchy looking and the shower looked acceptable but not at all what I had hoped for.  I began looking up care instructions since nothing had been left with me and called the business's main offices to ask for guidance.  The phone rep sighed heavily and said she would send me some cleaner.  Another few days went by and I finally called Unique Refinishers to see if I could get the tech to come back.  Because of the Company's very inflexible scheduling, I had taken a vacation day to get the original work done (they arrived at 11:30 and left at 3pm) but could not lose another day waiting for them to show up.  PLENTY of other businesses work with their consumers to accommodate schedules and  I was not asking for anything outlandish - just a first call.   I encountered a very rude phone person who complained that the highway prevents them from getting anyone out early in the morning.  (A 9-10 window is not unreasonable.  There are many ways this could have been handled.)  I left the conversation furious b/c this business had wasted my time and my money and hurt my heart - I was so excited about getting this bathwork done and they just ruined the experience in every way.  I then sent them pictures of the sinks and called back the next day. I spoke with someone else and asked her if she could share them with the tech and help me know what was possible so frankly - I do not wait in vain and lose work time for nothing.  She worked to schedule an afternoon window of 1-4 and that they would call 30 minutes out.  So, that Friday, at 12:30 the tech called and said he would be there in 30 minutes.  I asked if he could give me an extra 15 minutes,as I had hoped the window would start at 1pm (I have a delicate schedule at work myself)  He said he did not want to wait.  I replied I was leaving and would do my best  to get there.  The office then called and said their tech called and stated that I would not be there and to reschedule.  Again, I pleaded I'd be there shortly - but I wanted to manage expectations.  I ended up being there before 1PM and called them to let them know I had arrived.  The tech showed up at 1:30 (after putting me through this.)  He sanded the areas that were scratched and added product to the holes -- and left in 30 minutes.  This was an appointment that should have been scheduled more appropriately first in the AM or as a last stop. I have never encountered a ruder or more inflexible business as long as I have been hiring folks for my home.
Separately the shower enclosure and door I purchased to install after the "tile tune up" ended up being delayed.  SO - I called t he alternate Company who had also provided a quote.  They had a cancellation and came out and did my shower and bath tile trim beautifully.  There was also a staggering difference in cost.  They explained that it would be too risky to try to do the counter now that the sinks were done because their product would likely cause the other to peel.   I will rate that business separately and not tie them into this mess.  My sincere belief is that you should actually WARN members to proceed with caution if they use Unique Refinishers.  Thank you

The tile in the shower had previously been painted (by a painter, not a tile expert), and the paintjob had quickly peeled and in general the shower looked terrible. We wanted a good solution to that problem without demolition. The Unique assessor arrived promptly when scheduled and immediately explained how much it would cost and what they could offer, and that the possibilities would be that the tile was damaged underneath and would need refinishing or that it would simply need cleaning and fixing the grout.
On the appointed date, Scott Martin and his assistants, Drew Busby and Chris Seng, started by explaining exactly what was going to happen and what would work best, especially in terms of setting up the fan to ensure that the fumes of the paint removers would not linger. Unlike many contractors, there was no drama around parking which can sometimes be a hassle between Midtown and coordinating with the concierges, and they simply figured it all out and showed up where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there.
While the job took the full allotted time of two 4 hour sessions on subsequent days, they adjusted readily to problems as they came up and always kept me in the loop. In the end, it turned out the tile was going to be fine on its own and they resisted the urge to "add value" by painting it, and the shower looks fantastic now. Throughout, Martin and his associates were on-task and professional.
I was very pleased with the value of the work, which cost half to a third as much as the lowest estimates for demolition work, and I was very happy not to have to deal with the chemicals and the grueling labor myself. One typically can't blanket endorse a large company with many different subcontractors working for them like Unique, but in this experience I was very impressed with the work done and the manner in which they did it, and the cost was reasonable.

Do: Get the costs explained upfront . I was misled in an email. I was told that to resurface the ledge of the tub would be $150,but the "complete"tub would be $295. So,I assumed the complete tub would be $295. I left the check with the repairman. When I returned,he said the amount on the check was incorrect. I call the office and spoke with Jody, and asked her to review the email sent to me, stating the complete tub was $295. I was told that I owed $445. The cost of the ledge added to the cost of complete tub. I was not happy. I offered to split the difference with her and pay $75 more rather than $150. No way! She finally took off 10%. On the other hand, the technician was very nice, seemed efficient, and was distressed over the "misunderstanding" over the price. The tub looks great. They gave me a special cleaner to use on it . I guess this means that it can't be scrubbed like a normal tub??

I was amazing at the change.  My shower looks brand new.
Their service was amazing.  There was a small issue that needed to be double checked and the owner himself came to look and made a decision right on the spot.
I was very happy with this contractor.

They did a terrible job in the master bathroom with refinishing of the shower. They also left the mess after the service for me to clean up. They told me it was my responsibility to take up all the paper and tape and to re attach the shower knobs. The shower does not drain properly and now I have to use a towel to soak up excess water. They refuse to admit they are responsible. The grab bar is however is working out great.

The tub looks great after refinishing and they installed a new drain and overflow.  They had removed all old caulking around the tub and cleaned and sprayed the entire tub.  The issue came on the return visit to caulk the tub.  The caulk they used was not silicon and was done with poor effort.  I called and had them come out to redo the caulk, but the results are not up to par.  I am actually going to recaulk the surround myself.

They did the estimate and they came out and did the work fairly quickly after and the charges matched the estimate and they cleaned up like everything when they were done too, like perfectly. They were the best priced out of everyone for the most work. If we need that kind of work again, we will use them again.

First technician no showed (he was tied up at another job and couldn't
make it).  Office staff was extremely rude when I called to discuss
pricing, but I had used them before so I decided I would continue.  Once
the work was done I had the pleasure, worst most offensive phone
conversations I have had in years, of dealing with the office for
payment.  Many others that can do the same work with a better attitude.

The service was provided by well-mannered technicians on two separate days so as not to disable both my bathrooms at once...good idea, and no trip charge for the second day.  There are some small embedded dust particles in the tub/shower enclosure, but they don't bother me, considering that the finish is so much better than before.  Overall the experience was a good one.

It didn't go very well. At first the sinks looked great and I was thrilled. But within two weeks, the rust was back, coming through the new finish. I called them and it was then they told me they couldn't guarantee the work. I asked for them to send someone out to fix the rust. Two techs came out and touched up the rusted areas again. Within two weeks the rust was back, which is where it is today. I wasn't happy with the work at all. Besides the money I paid them, I had to pay a plumber $125 to remove and reinstall the sinks. So I'm out $500, and I still have sinks with rust showing through.

Not as expected; crews came out three times to address issues (surfaces particles in finish, runs, etc.) in refinishing two tubs. It took three times for them to address issues with first attempt having large particles in finished material and  second attempt left scratches in surface from sand paper (didn't use fine grit sandpaper I guess before spraying material). For third attempt the technician, upon viewing the issue, shook his head in disbelief that the previous technician would have left a job with the scratches being so visible....
All in all, the tubs look OK now, but what a hassle......maybe my situation was a random fluke....

The tubs look great and Damon was a very nice person to work with. Traffic is bad on I-85 in the mornings (especially this week with the new toll lanes going into effect) so he was later than expected but before the  9-11am window closed. Once here, he started into work, was finished quickly, and called me on my cell phone to come home to inspect his work.

Unfortunately for him, as he was removing the shielding paper, a loose end  touched the wet surface on one of the tubs and left a mark. He showed it to me and we both noticed a spot that had needed to be repaired also needed to be touched up. He assured me he would be back to fix both spots the next day. Even though I went ahead and gave my credit card info, he agreed not to charge me until I was satisfied with the job. We wrote this on my receipt and both of us initialed and dated this specification.

Damon returned, on time,  and made the problem spots look like they had never occurred. He also, at my request,  buffed out the little bumps made by dust particles that had settled on both the tubs so that they are smooth. The nicest surprise though was having the company offer to regrout both tubs at their expense. It would have been a $90 additional charge  for both tubs. Overall, it was a good experience and I would recommend them to my friends.
