The perch was too high at first so I asked them to rebuild it. They charged me extra money.
Response from ED's Home Repairs
"Read contract and stipulations > clearly states all member chose the drawing of perch she wanted built using pvc. Also contract specifies height as was indicated on drawing. She was not charged for any extra work done or perch once it was delivered. She was charged $5 for work done not on contract re. fix mop, install doorbell, install slip cover on couch & more! (Member name removed) upon leaving her premises was satisfied with perch - it was after her bird wouldn't go on it she started with her racist remarks, threats to harm me & my wife, defamation of character, libel, slander, all of which police officer heard."

His price was reasonable. There were no problems. I would definitely use him again. He was on time and he is a nice guy.

"I do apologize for not responding before now, however going thru all files / folders since moving to Georgia < late 2009 > I've no file/folder or contract on you. Ed doesn't contract anyone to repair / fix appliances he does occassionaly repair or replace dishwashers and or garbage disposals,,,,,,,,,,but basic appliances NO.....I do believe you have rated the wrong Ed's Home Repairs"

With all of the handyman services, they have so many jobs that they promise you they are going to be there on a certain day and would not show up, and these guys are going to take all the bids that they can take and try to get everybody give some deposit but they are going to go with whoever is probably paying them the most. So that is a little bit aggravating. They were a little bit late than I expected or hoped. They charged me less than I expected to pay. They were pretty friendly.

"I believe you have rated the wrong company. Ed has not performed any work in Austell Ga, let alone anything to do with a closet. Sorry but please review your contract name / address as I have reviewed his and there's no contract with your name on it for the last 4 yrs"

During the repair process Ed had a few health problems which delayed the job slightly.  However, he stayed within budget and got the job done in good time.  He had a lot of work to do here.
Ed is not new to working as a handyman for us; he started for us ten years ago, and we still use him regularly for most of our maintenance.  I have found that Ed can do most any job around the house, but if you are very (picky) specific as I am, then you will need to be specific in your directions.  I have found over the years that If you are specific regarding exactly what you want, then that is exactly what you are likely to get.  Ed will take direction well, and for an unusual request, he can usually figure our a way to solve it.
We have come to the point of trust now, using their services where we can simply tell him we have a problem with X or Y at such a house.  Please go fix it and we'll pay your costs when you finish.  We always pay labor separate from materials.
For this job, we were satisfied we got our money's worth.  We've felt that way using his services since 2002.
Alternative contractors would have cost us considerably more than what our costs were on this job.

"Thank you for your rating and testimonial, much appreciated. By the looks of it < medical issues aside, > looks as tho a few things ( where you rated 'B's" ) need reviewing and addressing to help Ed get back to total 'A' ratings. Consider your testimonial / feedback helpful as we strive to do Quality and Professional work and customer service. Again Thank you Have a Very Happy New Year Ed/Lynne Lynne"

The short version is, I contracted Lynne and Ed for a second project, which should have only taken a week, but ended up taking over 2 weeks, which resulted in poor work due to their health issues.  Instead of canceling my contract, they left my house in an disheveled state for over 2 weeks and did subpar work.   If you plan to work with them, do not sign a contract unless you state that they start the job within a certain time period and complete it within a certain time period.  Their projects have a tendency to go over, and if you are on a schedule, you will be out of luck.
I previously worked with Ed's home repair to install laminate floors for the same property.  I was not living in the property at the time so was not able to see how Lynne and Ed actually worked together and the job was not a rush.  This time I called Lynne and Ed again, I was very happy with the floors they installed when I first saw them but they had began to buckle in my Master bedroom, so when they came to do the estimate, they said they would fix this issue too.
The project started over a week late since they were behind on another project and then they both were sick.  I was in the process of moving in and since they were going to be painting my kitchen and refinishing my cabinets, I held off on unpacking my kitchen items.  Also, I was told the job would take less than a week.  When they didstart, it was only Lynne that started, which was concerning, since Lynne is a very Petite woman.  Ed was still stick and unable to work.
I have terrible allergies and on immunosuppresant treatments, so I made plans to be out of town the week they were working.  I have an assistant that was there to answer questions for them and run to the store if any additional supplies or material were needed.  Ed's illness continued to progress and Lynne brought in an assistant, one that I was unfamliar with and that she had to train, which also made me uncomfortable since I had given them a key and alarm code to my home, and I did not know this person they were bringing into my home.  Ed was only able to work a few hours the first week, so at the end of the first week the painting wasn't even complete.  When I returned home the next week, on a Saturday, expecting to see at least on room or project complete, I found my kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom completely taped up and my furniture still pulled away from the walls and covered.  I also found the toilet in my master bathroom removed and sitting in the middle of the bathroom floor, yet there was not evidence that there was any attempt to start the tiling.  I arrived home very late that night, and had not setup my guest bedroom or bath and had to unpack and setup the guest bedroom and bath so I could sleep.
Lynne and her helper returned to work on Monday to try to finish the painting, which still wasn't completed on Monday.  At this point, they had been painting 4 rooms for 6 work days.  They are older so cannot work 8 hours a day, so this does have something to do with it, but they usually try to work from 9:30 to 2:30, which should still give them enough time to complete 4 rooms.  My house is only 1600 square feet.  Ed callled me on Tuesday morning and said that he still was sick and would not be able to come in.  At this point, I gave Ed the option to allow somone else to finish up the remainder of the work, as he had been too sick to work for the majority of the contract and the contract started late due to his illness.  Lynne and her helper could finish the painting and the cabinets, and I would get someone else to finish the rest.  Well Ed was at my house 30 minutes later.  He came and tiled around my bathroom tub in less than an hour.  Which I wish he would have taken more time as he broke a couple of tiles cutting them and did not bother to re-cut other tiles, when I had over a box left over.  This move made it necessary for me to continue to work with them, which I'm sure was done on purpose.   In hindsight, I would have not signed a contract with them without a clause that stated that the work must be started within a certain date/time period and completed within date/time period.
I have to say, the one thing that I am satisfied with is the job Lynne did refinishing my cabinets.  As far as the painting, I have done a better job myself.  There was still a lot of touching up that needs to be done, and lots of paint running over into the ceiling and onto the trim.  The ceiling fan they installed in my bedroom, they did not put the sensor in for the remote, so I would only turn on high when I turned it on.  I found the sensor and the remote in a drawer in my kitchen cabinet.  An odd place to put it since my bedroom is upstairs.  The ceiling fan that was installed in my living room, the sensor was left hanging out.  Ed removed a fluorescent light in my kitchen and installed a fixed track light.  This left two holes in the ceiling.  No one ever asked me if I would like them repaired.  I would have been happy to pay to have these holes patched.  They left early on many days because of Ed's illness.  I'm an understanding person when it comes to illness, but when it gets to a point where it's impacting the quality of work you are doing and inconveniencing your customer, then you should give your customer the option to find someone else to finish the job, especially if you are so sick that you cannot work consistently for at least 3 weeks, when your primary job is doing manual labor.
On the day they were supposed to finish up (a Friday), they only had to put the quarter round back in my bathroom and install 2 flood lights and put handles on cabinets, they said they could not finish and would return on Monday.  I paid them and told them to not come back.  I finished most of the work myself.  Also, I was tired of Ed and Lynne constantly arguing with each other while working in my home.  I would not say don't work with them, but I will say you get what you pay for and I wish I would have paid a little more to get someone more reliable and professional.

Ed and Lynne did an excellent job installing the Laminate floors.  I was out of town while the work was performed, but they sent many  progress pictures and kept me informed on the work.

They were both a pleasure to work with and made me feel so comfortable, that it felt like they were family when they completed the job.  They were very considerate and I felt that my home was well looked after while I was away.

Ed is very experienced and takes pride in his work, and Lynne is great at operating the daily business and is great a responding to calls and inquiries.

I would not hesitate to recommend or use them again.  It was a great experience, and feel that I got a wonderful deal and now have people I can trust to work on my home.

I initially contacted Ed's Home Repair via email. Lynn called me the next day and arranged for Ed to come out for an estimate. Ed arrived at the scheduled time, assessed the work to be done and explained what he would do. He provided a written estimate. The work was completed exactly as promised and for less than the estimate. It would have been easy just to charge me the estimated amount but Ed passed on his savings on materials to me. He even made an extra trip to complete the job because the sub-floor needed time to dry out after removing the decking. We are very please with the professional way that the work was done and will certainly recommend Ed to our friends.

Reliable, professional, great communications, timely and most importantly priced reasonably are the things best describing my experience with Ed s Home Repair. The excellent working relationship and trust has resulted in me renting my renovated house back to Ed and Lynne (Ed s wife). Here is my story... I lived in California and have a house in Oregon which was vacant and needed a major renovation. I contacted many contractors and ended up choosing Ed s Home Repairs due to the excellent referrals, reasonable charge and the fact that Ed is a solid member with the CCB. For my first contract, Ed (and Lynne) s bid was broken down itemizing each thing to do including material estimates. To send partial labor and material dollars upfront was a bit paranoid to me but later proved to be doable and reasonable. The first project included both exterior and interior work. EXTERIOR: replaced needed shake sidings, pressure clean the house and shed, installed new vinyl gutters/spouts to the entire house; exterior house painting (love the colors Lynn has chosen). INTERIOR: tear-off carpets in all rooms, installed kitchen sub-floor, demo kitchen cabinets/sink/countertop, painting all ceilings and walls (except kitchen/bathroom), peel-and-stick tiling in utility room, kitchen and front entryway, sanded and stained all woods in house (i.e. closet/drawer; baseboard, interior doors, window trims). Ed and Lynne were able to deliver all completed work within fours weeks since the beginning of the renovation. Lynne had communicated all the good progress with pictures and detailed description. My wife and I drove up to Oregon and were pleased with the results. We then contracted Ed to remodel/renovate the shed, bathroom and the kitchen. All the works began down-to-studs which include: new water line, faucet, vent, tub, tiles, countertop, backsplash, hood over range, light fixtures, kitchen cabinets, GFI plugs, sink, garbage disposal ... plus many more. In addition, installed a new bathroom vent pipe in the roof plus chimney crown repair. I will not hesitate to give my best recommendations to Ed s Home Repair. You can contact me at [email protected].

"THANK YOU LOVE THE PIX. YOUR RATING AND REPORT ARE VERY APPRECIATED AND AS YOU KNOW WE AIM TO PLEASE. I KNOW IT WAS ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT BEING YOU'RE IN CALIFORNIA, BUT END RESULT THE 'TRUST' HAD TO BE THERE AND OBVIOUSLY WE EARNED THAT TRUST. IT'S HARD FOR ANY CLIENT TO PART WITH MONEY UP FRONT FOR LABOR/MATERIALS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CLIENT IS OUT OF AREA, WHICH AGAIN WE THANK YOU FOR THE TRUST YOU GAVE US NOT ONLY IN ESTIMATING WHICH YOU HAD TO GIVE US ACCESS TO THE LOCK BOX ON HOUSE BUT ALSO IN RESPECT TO ITEMIZING THE TOTAL 'TO DO' LIST BROKE DOWN IN PHASES FOR YOU (SOMETHING WE DO IS ITEMIZE ON ESTIMATES AND CONTRACTS BUT YOU ARE THE FIRST ITEMIZED WITH INDIVIDUAL PRICING FOR EACH THING TO DO...OBVIOUSLY THIS WORKED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR US, BUT IN THE FUTURE FOR OTHER CLIENTS THIS WON'T BE DONE. I ALWAYS SAID/EMAILED TO YOU DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY...AND I KNOW THIS HELPED EASE THE 'STRESS' YOU MUST HAVE BEEN FEELING KNOWING YOU SENT MONEY (LARGE SUMS) UP FRONT TO A BUSINESS YOU'D NOT MET IN PERSON BEFORE BUT ONLY BY REFERRALS. I KNOW MYSELF AND ED WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME WITH THAT AS WELL, BUT BOTH OF US ARE VERY HONEST, RELIABLE, TRUSTWORTHY, DEPENDABLE AND VERY DETAILED PEOPLE. MOST CLIENTS DON'T REALIZE THAT THESE ATTRIBUTES ARE VERY IMPORTANT WHEN CONTRACTING ANYONE TO DO WORK ON ONE'S BIGGEST ASSET (HOUSE). I THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO CHOOSE THE COLORS FOR INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR WORK AND THE CHOICE OF CARPET AND TILE AS WELL. AGAIN I KNOW THAT HAD TO BE HARD FOR YOU, BUT AS YOU KNOW IT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL/GREAT AND YOU KNOW THAT ALL WAS CHOSEN BEFORE WE KNEW WE WOULD HAVE A LANDLORD/TENANT LEASE. FOR ANY POTENTIAL CLIENTS READING THIS, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE BEFORE/AFTER PIX OF ALL THE WORK (INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR) MUCH OF WASN'T INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT THAT ED DID PLEASE CONTACT ME AND I WILL EMAIL PIX TO YOU. BUT I HAVE NO DOUBT THE MEMBER'S WILL VERIFY EVERYTHING HERE AT OUR NEWLY RENOVATED HOME IS WONDERFUL. AGAIN WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR TRUST,AND BELIEVING IN ED, AND OBVIOUSLY THE RATING/REPORT ON ED'S HOME REPAIRS WITH ANGIE'S LIST ..YOU DIDN'T MENTION ED DOES THE WORK HIMSELF, NO SUBS, JUST ONCE IN AWHILE BROTHER OR WIFE HELP (SORRY HAD TO ENLIGHTEN POTENTIAL CLIENTS OF THAT) TAKE CARE, DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY !!!! The first job on the porch went well. We now know that Ed's brother Willis is the real painter here. Assuming Willis would do the work we hired him to paint a rental and to clean and stain our deck. Ed merely sprayed the body, leaving a mess of over spray and many missed spots. It took a month to get Willis back to clean up. The deck was the horror story. My husband was having emergency surgery when the deck cleaning was going on and I wasn't able to supervise. When I got home after dark, I didn't see the mess that was left. The power washing was terrible - stripes, moss and mold still on everything. My husband was trying to supervise it still under the influence of anesthetic; I was working. Ed with his slip shod way was pouring and slopping the stain all over and used up the required amount. Husband had to go and buy more. Mistakenly got the wrong stain. Ed was yelling the whole time at Willis. Get this **expletive** job done. Ed applied the wrong stain in warp speed. See photos!

The worker arrived right on time and began work promptly to scrape away old loose paint before applying a new coat of paint. Rather than hoisting ladders 2-stories high, he worked from atop the roof reaching over the side to paint - a very efficient method of work. When he was done, I inspected his work. I found one small area that had been overlooked and he very willingly and quickly worked to get the area painting. A very good job overall.

I called several handymen from Angie's List and was determined to go with the person who responded first. This was Ed. He came out on a Saturday, gave the bid and said his crew could start on Tuesday. That was pushed until Friday due to illness but that was OK with me. They did the job in about 10 hours over a two day period. When the vinyl people (chosen by the insurance company) came to lay the vinyl they said they needed something about the floor fixed and Ed had it done right away. When the vinyl people came back to lay the floor they refused to put the trim back around the floor because they didn't remove it. Of course not as they did not remove the old vinyl either. It was rather like a puzzle. Ed was happy to come back on a Saturday and do this for me. I really appreciate his efforts. He went out of his way to make sure that everything his crew did was to my satisfaction and went the extra mile himself.

For the most part I was happy with the work. There was a problem with the ceiling patch and not even coming close to the texture of the rest of the ceiling. Ed came out and tried to make it better, but frankly the result was disappointing. I had to have another patch done months ago in the same room, and you need to go look for that patch work. Ed's is still pretty visible. Ed's crew was on time, courteous and hard working. I would quote Ed again for handywork, but not if it has challenging texturing work to be done.
