I recently bought a new leather coach. My 25+ year old leather pull out coach was still very usable, and my daughter needed one for occasional company. I thought it best, therefore, to have the old coach reupholstered before giving it to her. I shopped around for leather reupholstering services on Angie’s List, comparing prices and listening to recommendations. Representatives of various companies told me full leather reupholstering would be rather expensive. One recommended the use of a faux leather. Another, i.e., Doc Otis, recommended that I do just the cushions, as this part typically showed the most wear and tear. My daughter did not want fake leather under any conditions. When I inspected the coach, I saw that the cushions were, in fact, the part that most needed repair. We tentatively agreed upon a price for this service ($500) and Doc Otis came to my apartment to look at the coach. I found he very amiable and easy to work with. We both agreed that reupholstering the seat cushions was what was needed. He also stated that the arm cushions needed more stuffing, but he could do that later, i.e., the leather covering the arm cushions was not in bad condition. He then suggested that the sofa remain in my apartment and that he just take the leather covering off the seat cushions, so that I could still have the use of the coach while the job was being done. At that time I told him that I was purchasing a new coach and was planning of giving this coach to my daughter. Her coach was to be taken to my son’s apartment, and his coach taken to my mother’s, where he was later moving. Consequently, I preferred to have the coach removed and taken to my daughter’s. To my surprise, Doc Otis said that he would do the entire job, including moving the various coaches from one location to the other. I was flabbergasted! On the morning of the move, Doc Otis and his brother call bright and early. I was particularly worried about getting my coach out of my apartment door. It weighed a ton, as it contained heavy metal parts typically used to construct pull out coaches 25 years ago. With the help of his brother, Doc Otis literally removed the arms from the coach, so as to get it out the door. It was a five flight walk down to get the coach out the building. He and his brother took the coach to my daughter’s, where he left it, removing only the leather seat cover cushions. Her coach, he took to my son’s, and his coach was taken to my mother’s. Approximately a week and a half later the cushion covers were brought back. In that time, my daughter informed me that she felt the cushions were a little soft. I spoke to Doc Otis and he said that the foam could be wrapped to give them more firmness. He was intending to bring wrapping material for the arm cushions to make them a little plumper. When the job was done, i.e., the seat and arm cushions were wrapped and the covers put on, my daughter raved about how the coach looked. It took me several weeks to get by her apartment to see the finished product. I was amazed. The coach looked almost brand new. The leather he used was supple, the seat cushion felt more firm, yet soft. I slept on the coach that night. Amazingly, before, sleeping on top of the coach had usually resulted in a stiff neck and some lower back pain. This time, NO PAIN AT ALL!! The additional stuffing apparently did the trick. Doc Otis is a furniture repair and leather reupholstering MASTER! I love him!! Last but certainly not least, I found him to be one of the most courteous, professional and polite individuals that I have had the pleasure of meeting. For the reupholstering job (NOT including the moving), he charged me $500! I was more than pleased. HE IS THE BEST!
