Website advertised that 3 days are included in the dumpster rental. We signed up for the 3 day rental online. The dumpster was delivered approximately mid-day on the first day. At 7:00 am on the 3rd day, the driver arrived to pick it up. Of course, we weren't finished filling it as it had not even been onsite for 48 hours. The driver said he been instructed by Waster Management to perform an early morning pick up. The staff at Waste Management could not be reached at that early hour, so we asked him to please come back in the afternoon.
Later, we called Waste Management and were told there would be a $150 fee for turning away the driver. We replied that the website clearly stated that a 3 day rental is what we purchased. The response from Waste Management was that they can deliver any time on Day 1 between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm and pick up any time on Day 3 between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.
In reality, you purchase a 3 day rental, but you can only be assured of a 1 day rental.
They skipped our house on a few occasions and I had to call to get a pick up scheduled.
The final straw was when I watched them collect the garbage and recycling container in the SAME truck & compact it all together. If I'm making the effort to recycle & paying for that service - I expect my recycling to actually be recycled and not all end up in the landfill with the trash.
Upon canceling my service on 1/28/13 - I have been told a refund is being processed but will take a few weeks. I was also told to leave my trash cans outside for pickup and they would be collected in the next FIVE business days. So here I am 5 days later with cans still sitting by the street means another phone call to WM in order to escalate that request.
As far as I can tell only 2 other neighbors in my subdivision use WM for garbage collection and now I know why. I would not recommend WM to anyone. Horrible customer service, lack of communication internally and very poor response time.
Update - it took 10 days (8 business days) and 2 additional phone calls to get my garbage bins picked up after I canceled the service.
No such luck. No pick-up on week two, so I called. The customer service representative I spoke with was very nice, professional, and apologetic. She assured me the trash would be picked up within two to three days. And it was. And it was picked up on time the following week.
Then last week, just a little over a month into our new service, they missed us again. So I called on Wednesday, the day after our scheduled service. Again, the two women I spoke with were super nice and professional. However, at this point, I was ready to cancel service because this was the third time they'd missed us and the second time I'd had to call. Not only that, after doing more research (which I wish I'd had the time to do before we moved), I found another waste collection company that was significantly cheaper! When I requested cancellation and a refund of our $35 activation fee, I was told the activation fee was non-refundable. I said I didn't understand this as we had barely been provided any service - so they were just willing to pocket our money and not do anything? They conceded to giving us a $35 credit on the account if we did not cancel. So I agreed. And they promised to pick-up our trash by Thursday.
Friday morning, our trash is still out at the curb. And meanwhile, we have trash piling up in our garage because we have no waste container to put it in! So I call yet again and am assured it will be picked up in the next four hours and someone will call me back that day to follow-up. Guess what? No pick-up, no phone call.
So I sent an e-mail on Sunday evening explaining all the hassle we had received, expecting a response Monday morning. Nothing. So my husband ends up calling that afternoon. He cancels the service while still managing to keep the $35 credit. He's good! They promised to pick up our trash that evening. No such luck. We figured they'd come Tuesday and get it since that was our regular trash day. Nope. Not on Wednesday either. My husband called back on Thursday and they said they had come on Tuesday, but our trash was not out at the curb. GRRR!!! We have not touched our trash can in the 10 days it has been sitting at the curb. So not only does this company have horrible service, but they lie. I was so furious. Do not waste your time on Waste Management. They are the most expensive trash pick-up out there and have horrible service.
