This company was contracted for three services. Painting of exterior, replacement of exterior shutters and sealing of concrete driveway and all concrete around private residence. This review is regarding the sealing of the concrete.
On 12/28/13 a contract was signed to seal the concrete driveway, sidewalks, concrete under backyard porch and concrete slab before the rear entrance to residence. The contractor orally stated that his company would apply 50 gallons of sealant and that it would be brushed onto the surfaces ensuring a good saturation and seal. Customer wrote out a check for the services on the contract date upon the condition the check would not be cashed until the services were provided. Company owner, Troy Strickland, agreed and stated that he would not cash the check until the services were completed. The check was cashed the next day prior to the services being performed.
Customer made numerous phone calls to company over the next several months regarding when the services would be performed. The services were not provided until the end of April, nearly four months later, and only after customer informed company that he would take legal action.
On the date the services were provided the customer did not go to work in order to observe the sealing of the concrete. Two workman from the company did show up as promised. They did not do any prep work the day before or before the application, such as removing dirt and pollen. The application was not by brush as orally promised but rather the sealant was applied by paint sprayer. The spray application was done during windy weather raising additional concerns. When the customer approached the workman and asked about sealing the concrete in the rear of the residence they stated they did not know they were to do the back as well but agreed to do so. Had customer not been home the rear concrete would not have been treated as agreed upon in the contract. In addition to the application not being as agreed upon the workman informed the customer they had 20 gallons to do the job, not the 50 as promised by Strickland. Strickland also stated that it would take 24 hours for the sealant to dry and his workman would put warning cones up at the end of the driveway to ensure no traffic on the freshly sealed concrete. The workman did not have cones and stated the customer could drive on the concrete in one hour.
Customer asked workman to have Strickland call that day but no call was ever received by customer. In a later conversation Strickland stated he had 41 gallons applied. This was less than what was agreed upon and half what the workman said they had used.
Recommend not using this company for concrete sealing work. Also recommend ensuring the quantity and application method are written on the contract. Strongly recommend observe any work that is performed by this company.
On the positive side the quality of the paint was as agreed upon and the price very competitive.
On the not so positive side was the prep work and customer service. The preparation of the residence for painting was substandard. The house was pressured washed for painting and staining but after the pressure washing the homeowner did additional cleaning of exterior wood to remove dirt. The pressure washing to prepare the deck was so insufficient that mold and dirt were still visible. Homeowner requested additional cleaning which was done. Even after the second cleaning the homeowner does a better job with spring cleaning of the deck with his own pressure washer. After the paint job the gutters were replaced by the work crew, however, three off downspouts were not properly reattached. During the next rain the gutters failed and fell off the house or were losing water at the top. The homeowner had to properly reattach the gutters using an extension ladder. The painting of the house took several days longer than originally promised.
The company owner has very poor customer service to include not returning phone calls. Strongly recommend no payment until the job is finished.
Look for additional reviews on two other contracted services: replacement of exterior shutters and sealing of concrete. In summary of those reviews I would state that this company does an adequate job of painting of the exterior of the house at a fair price but should not be contracted for other services.
