Work done very professionally. Impressing protection and final cleaning. My previous evaluation of "F" has to be considered WRONG. It was caused by initial problems of communication. Please, cancel it.

Well! John and his crew came and assessed the issue then provided the proper fix at a very fair and reasonable price.

Horton remodeling did a stellar job. We had timing issues and so we had less time than we wanted for the repair, which was supposed to take 3-4 days.. ..Horton Remodeling stepped up, brought extra workers in and did the job twice as fast as we expected and with quality results. They finished the job in 1 1/2 days. I couldn't believe it - I was floored. I highly recommend their services.

First: The owner of Horton Remodeling, John, is incredibly responsive. I found this to be even more so if you contact him via e-mail. That's not to say he doesn't return calls, but he's on top of his e-mail. I never had to wait more than a couple of hours for a response (most of the time it was less than this). By being on top of customer communications, he made our family feel like a valuable customer.
Second: Spring is the remodeling season. When we were trying to figure out a date to have the doors refinished, Horton was in high demand and fairly well-booked. We were looking at one or two weeks out. At the time, I had taken a week off work to be with my kids during their spring break and I indicated that I would really prefer not to have to take more time off to be home for his crew to do the work. In order to accommodate my request, John asked one of his carpenters (a great fellow named Hank) if he wouldn't mind coming by our house after he got off work each day to work on the doors for an hour or so. Hank lives fairly close to us and was happy to oblige. By being so flexible and willing to work around my schedule, Horton Remodeling AGAIN made us feel like a valuable customer.
Third: Once the finishing was completed by Hank, John came by one evening and adjusted our hinges. The doors closed just fine for a day or so, but then one of them started dragging again (these are large, solid wooden doors with a semi-circular top held in place by hinges that only go up about 2/3 of the side - so it's inevitable that gravity will have an effect). I contacted John to let him know and I think he was back out the next day or the day after that and got things set straight again. That was almost two weeks ago and the doors close like butter! Nice and smooth.
Fourth: For the quality of service, work and convenience, the cost of the service was incredibly reasonable. A couple of years ago I got a quote from another service and they quoted more than I paid for Horton... per door! So, I ended up waiting until I was in a place to spend that sort of money and come to my surprise, I had money left over (that immediately went toward other projects around the house).
If I *ever* need any sort of carpentry or remodeling work done, I will not hesitate to call these folks. Just keep in mind that the work we had done was pretty small-scale, and they do quite a bit of large-scale work, so the scheduling bonus made available to us may vary from job to job. I just wish I could post a picture of their finished work!

We hired Horton Remodeling to address worn parts and sealant on our 15 year old shower and surround. We were expecting them to disassemble the entire surround, remove the existing sealant, clean all the pieces, replace deteriorating plastic door sweep, reassemble, and re-apply silicone. We are mostly satisfied with the quality of their work, with some exceptions:
- Door sweep was addressed during the consultation as a failing plastic profile part, but Horton failed to find a replacement, which was asked of them as part of the work. It seemed they forgot to search around for the part until the day the work was being done. The worker then said they would continue to look for the part in town and get back with us. We haven't heard anything in nearly a month.
- We expected the entire surround to be disassembled to get the crud off from between the wall, behind, and underneath it. This was not done. Instead, Horton stripped the silicone from what they could reach and re-applied. I'm sure the crud is still under the surround which will likely lead to premature failure or rust in the future.
- Used clear silicone. The existing shower and surround had multiple layers of white (and other) silicone to be removed. Horton decided to replace this with clear silicone instead. Now, we see the crud under the panels since they put on the clear! White silicone would have at least hid this. Also where there are gaps between the wall surround and the pan, the clear silicone shows this as a dark spot and looks like mold or crud. Not a good decision to use clear silicone, which they insisted on. We'll end up covering it with white to fix this mistake and hide the dark spots.
- Timing. We were scheduled for a 9am appointment. I received an email from Horton at 8am saying he might be late. That's fine, thanks for the heads up. They didn't arrive until after 11am after more emails from me asking their ETA. They were at the store buying parts for my job! This should have been done ahead of time, not 2 hours after the appointment start time. I took time off work to be there for the appointment. What should have been a couple hours turned into an entire day out of the office. Once they arrived, they worked quickly, even though they took a lunch break, but did only charge me for the time they worked.

I would highly recommend this company to anyone. They did a great job repairing the ceiling in my home and were very professional in every aspect. The price was very reasonable and they did a remarkable job cleaning up after performing the service.
Response from Horton Remodeling

John Horton and his crew are far and away the best craftsmen and contractors I have worked with. They're honest, punctual, and the quality of their work is superior to any other contractor I've worked with. I've contracted them for several projects recently, including repairing severe termite damage. Where another local contractor told me repairing the damage would take 2 weeks, John had it completed in about 2 days, and that was after I continued to expand the original scope of the project. I was so pleased with their work I had them back to modify and update my front porch and dormers (in addition to a bunch of other work I kept adding on). The bottom line is that John Horton is quite possibly the only contractor in Savannah that will actually show up when he says he will and the quality of his work is second to none.

I contacted Horton Remodeling before moving into a new house we just bought. We wanted a solution to convert a den into a room to be used as office. He came on time at the scheduled appointment and discussed very professionally the options for new office. We had ideas prior to Horton Remodeling coming but John improved our ideas and even saved us $300! We decided to also have him put a vent in the master bathroom (he installed a vent with integrated light), install the garbage disposal and redo all handles in the kitchen, office and bathroom.
John started working prior to us moving to Savannah, we left the key in the mailbox and by the time we arrived in Savannah everything was done perfectly. Throughout the work John sent many pictures to keep us up to date of the progress.
We really felt very well taken care of. The work performed by Horton Remodeling was absolutely perfect!
He also showed a lot of flexibility as we had to have him come back 2 times because of parts that we ordered that didn't arrive in time. I contacted him via text each time and he responded immediately and performed that work just a day later! Each time the contractors came in the house to perform work they left the house absolutely clean! You would not have been able to see that someone was there to perform work! I never experienced such a thorough clean-up! Overall awesome experience! We will continue working with Horton Remodeling whenever we have a project in the house. I definitely recommend this company!

very well; but screen trim was stapled in instead of nailed.
staple have come out in multiple pieces, and had to nail them back in...
though he was a little bit more expensive than expected -- may be my perception
next time, i will personally oversee the work for quality control

"I'm sorry the staples came out. I would be more than happy to fix it. We did also take two doors in addition to the listed work and cut them open and installed pieces of stained glass the customer provided. They turned out beautiful."

Everything went well. Mr Horton came over to the house and evaluated the bathroom area, and provided an estimate. We scheduled an appointment to start the bathtub remodeling. Mr Horton and two of his employees arrived on the scheduled start date and completed the work on time. Mr Horton's employees we're very professional, courteous, punctual, and exhibited pride in their field of work. All work areas were cleaned daily and all trash taken away in their vehicle.
Response from Horton Remodeling
"Thank you for the work. You picked great tile for your shower redo."

John promptly returned my call, came to evaluate the repair, prepared an estimate for repair all within 2 days. After the appointment was made John arrived on time to begin work on our garage. He was very professional and did a wonderful job from start to finish. He left his work area very very clean. I would definitely higher John again to repair items in our home and I highly recommend people reading this review higher John also.
Response from Horton Remodeling
"Thanks for the work, and for the consideration of repeat business."
