Overall CertaPro did a very nice job. Painting the interior of the house made a huge difference and the results are beautiful. The painters were pleasant and worked very hard.
When looking for a paint company we received less expensive estimates but went with CertaPro because they seemed to be the most professional and were able to meet our tight deadline. One thing I was unhappy with was the customer service we received once the painting started. I was told painting would start on a Tuesday, a man showed up, looked around for a half hour or so then said he would be back the next day to start. The two painters showed up late more than half the days. One day they showed up several hours late – it turns out there were issues with their vehicle, which I understand, but no one from the company called to let me know, I had to call (after waiting for them for two hours) to verify that they were still coming.
After painting was done they packed up and left and no one walked through the house with us or followed up to see if we had any concerns. There were some minor things that we were able to clean up ourselves such as paint on the carpet and bathroom fixtures and missing outlet covers.CertaPro did outstanding work with the exterior painting of my house in three colors. The team of Tommy Hall, Lawrence Sheppard and Torrance Sheppard were cheerful, careful, thorough and diligent professionals. They were patient with and solicitous of all my concerns, every one of which they satisfied promptly and completely. I was particularly impressed with their attention to detail and thorough cleanup every day. I would recommend CertaPro and Tommy Hall?s team without reservation to anyone. Bravo! Job well done.
"It should be noted this job was done over 5 years ago, in 2009 and it is good to hear that a 5 year old paint job is holding up well (which is why people hire us). Concerning the carpentry, there was a tremendous amount as a matter of fact at the time we did the original estimate we made the suggestion they may want to get with a window contractor and replace the windows (but they opted to have us just repair them) and we also suggested they get the roof replaced. I would not disagree that we missed some rotted areas as a matter of fact we talked about it because the roofing contractor (who came in after us) found more after they removed the old roof, the flashing and gutters, we just did not see it but we also NEVER charged them for it either. We primarily do carpentry on time and materials (as in this case) and this is precisely why. There is no way you can guarantee you will get it all, you just do the best you can and only charge them for exactly what you do replace."
An across-the-street neighbor was so impressed with the work he saw CertaPro doing at our house that he now has them working at a project on his house.
The next time we have a painting project, CertaPro will definitely be called by us again.
Very professional job, will use again and will recommend his services to others.
The scheduler called to schedule the work for the third week in February which was not good for me because I was scheduled to be out of town. I made it clear I didn't want anyone working at the house while I was out of town and I asked for a later date. They asked if they could move the date up 2 weeks and I agreed but rainy weather pushed the work out a week and a half; in the end they were at the house when I was out of town. This wouldn't have been a problem but there was an issue that hadn't been resolved and that was around where to make the boundary between the gray house and the white facia board and sophets. In the end, they opted to include the siding trim along with the sophets. The trim butts into the corner trim which was left grey which struck me as an odd transition. It looks fine but is an example of the type of miscommunication I was trying to avoid by not being out of town when the work started.
There was a significant amount of repair work that was needed. The crew tried but construction wasn't really their strong suit; the new siding was not exactly level in some spots and was damaged in others. Some of the rotten brick molding should have been replaced but instead was filled with wood putty and bondo. The crew foreman was cordial and responsive and tried to address my observations and concerns. The last day it looked like they were being too optimistic about finishing. I found a rotten board and they quickly moved to replace the board and paint it. There were a number of other spots that were missed and they moved to paint them but it is questionable whether they got two coats of paint on those areas. Some minor things were found later, like hardware that wasn't completely replaced and areas where the primer was not completely covered by the house paint. No complaints with regard to the caulking.
This being said, my only recommendation would be to contract the repairs separately because when it came to the paint job it was very solid. These guys are painters not construction workers so I will probably will personally return to individual areas and replace or repair accordingly - the construction work was done for a very modest price and it was better to remove the rotten sections now rather then later.
They did a very good job with regarding to taping things off, almost no unwanted paint spray on cement or windows and the lines between the grey and white were very clean. In the original estimate, I asked for the trim on the windows, and garage to remain white on the side of the trim as well as the face to give the trim a more defined look but I didn't remind them and they probably saved time by painting the trim the house color up to the face of the windows and garage trim. I asked them to treat the back deck and it looks terrific. I also asked them to refinish the front door and it also looks very nice.
I would use them again, I just would have to be very clear to review the specifics and to do any construction myself or another contractor.
