DISTINCTIVE REMODELING SOLUTIONS INC

I have to say that out of all the projects we have done
around our house, elective or necessary this one was one of the smoothest. From
the beginning Mark was very organized and helpful throughout the process. Since
this was an addition to the house a couple of issues popped up but they were
handled with finesse by Kane.
A major consideration was that this project was happening
inside our house and it was going to be very disruptive. Working with an existing
structure required that adjustments were going to be necessary.  It?s how the craftsmen who are doing the work
manage these conflicts make a distinction from the rest.
Our trim guy had an emergency and Kane jumped right in. Mark
worked from a gantt chart so I knew what to expect every step of the way. The
whole process went as expected.  
Three and a half years later we have no regrets. We use the bonus
space all the time. Sure, a few little things popped up after the fact but they
were inconsequential. We did extensive research; checked references, looked at
complementary projects and sought out no less than 6 other qualified estimates.
It was time consuming but worth it. It came down to who was best for our needs.
Price was a consideration but we wanted to work with Mark. He wasn?t the most
expensive nor the least.
It?s always a good idea to make sure that your contractor is
can pay for the materials on your job without requiring your money. Work out as
much as you can on your own, figure out fixture locations, light switches,
everything. Before Mark and Kane showed up we knew what we wanted so anything they
suggested was gravy.

Can't speak highly enough of Mark, his team, and the subcontractors he uses. We chose to pay a little more for his work and it was worth it. He managed our extensive project very well even though it was on a smaller scale and less expensive than much of the work he does. He stopped by, texted, called and emailed us throughout the project so that we were always aware of what was happening and how it would be fixed.
 Inititially we had him estimate all the exterior work and a total basement rennovation. The basement work put us beyond our budget so we have opted to wait on that until finishing the more important and visible exterior repairs. Mark was certainly willing to work with the new, smaller scope. We had a budget and we stuck to it. The front of our house looks completely brand new and our basement is now dry. The basement issue was a particular challenge as we weren't completely sure what was causing the moisture and water to come in. Mark continued to push and problem solve on this until we are now 100% satisfied. We have received several calls and compliments from our neighbors about the improvement and wanting his contact info.

I needed guidance and someone I could trust to walk me through the remodeling process.  The weak link turned out to be the sub-contractor they hired for the tile work.  We had a lot of problems with leakage, and especially the grout not being laid correctly, and pieces of tile being cut the wrong size and/or shape.  There were many other mistakes due to sheer carelessness and a lot of time was wasted trying to first prove there was an issue, and then trying to resolve it.  When they finally did try to fix it, the employee they sent out had his own agenda and was not interested in solving the problem, so much so that I called the office after he left saying not to send that individual back at all.

It's mind-boggling to me that the amount of carelessness runs rampant in this company when there are many other people and companies who would be very glad for the work.  Apparently there is a limit to the control that the remodeler has over the subcontractor and to be fair there is always a limit to the subcontractor ability to respond based on the culture of the business to the subcontractor.

You would be well served to give them a chance to do the work just make sure the management makes it clear to the subcontractors that they are expected to perform at the highest standards. In the end, I had to spend 2 weeks during initial and 2 weeks in the end to get this problem solved. 99% of that was the fault of MODA tile.

My project fell through, so I did not get the updating done.  Only get the estimates if you're sure the project will be completed.

I will be spending $80000 on that work.  They are very professional and have all the paper work lined up.  They are a good company.  Their clean up is very good.  They are an A+ company.  The project manager is really good. 

Exceptionally good work - exterior fit, finish and look of the triple-window shed dormer was wonderful---we had a lot of concern about cutting a huge hole in our roof but the job couldn't have been done any better. Very skilled carpenters - know their stuff!! They took great care to clean up as they went and never tracked any dirt through the house. Highly recommended remodeling firm - they worked from architectural plans by the original architect on the home (Eduardo Contreras) which was key in making sure they the final result matched the original build and that we go what we wanted)

We are just at the begining and we have changed our plans several times. They are the most professional team I have ever used. They are on time and trying everything to accomidate us. We are just starting this project and they are moving us along and everyone else so we are extreamly happy. Can't wait until they start.

This was the most effortless project I have ever dealt with. DRS came in with a firm-fixed price contract, outlined all components of the project clearly in a detailed project plan, and provided excellent project management oversight to stay on-time and on-budget. The only changes to our projected budget were changes we made (they never changed their costs), and Distinctive was extremely flexible to integrate our mid-project changes into the project plan to minimize costs and time to our final product. The project manager was extremely visable throughout the project, always checking the quality of the work throughout, making sure everyone arrived on time, and met all the agreed-upon conditions- down to weekly meetings in person to walk through, discuss where we were, and what was coming next. I found all subs that DRS brought on board to be excellent, respectful of our home, and again, met the level of quality that we expected. DRS were very pro-active about keeping us informed of the project status and were dilligent to the timeline. For example, early in the project our area was hit with a lot of rain- the Project Manager realized the framers (who were scheduled to do a roof that week) could probably come a week early instead and pro-actively brought them in ahead of schedule-- and we maintained running a week ahead of schedule for the majority of the project. The best part was the firm-fixed price contract and the use of a detailed project schedule. This is by far the most well-organized construction firm I have ever come across. They upheld every single commitment throughout the project and we couldnt be happier with the results. There will always be contractors who will probably give you a more "attractive" price- and some approached us during our selection phase- but none could compete with the commitments DRS was able to make in terms of budget, timeline, and providing us the quality we wanted. Our renovation was worth every single penny (and then some)!

Fabulous! We didn't have a single problem. Mark was great in making sure the design was planned and everything ordered before he started demolition. He came in at budget and ahead of schedule. He is one of the most professional people I've ever dealt with, and it was a great experience. Our bathroom looks fantastic.
