Ok, this will be long, but wanted to give the story. Overall, Steve go the job done for $2000 less than another bid I got, he was punctual on the initial dig, we ran into electrical problems and the whole project ended up taking 4-5 weeks. Would I use him again? I might, only because he was cheaper than the next guy, but I would handle the electrical myself. Here's the story.
Septic started going bad, pooling in the yard. Called a guy referred to me, but he wasn't going to pull a permit and seemed shady. Got Precision to give me a quote, it was $6500. Pulled the permit myself and was told by county that I would need a specialized alternative system...$18-36k!!! Ouch! Had to pay $400 for a soil test and thankfully told me I could put in a traditional system but had to be a shallow system. YAY!...and still ouch. I had a friend who was going to do the system, dragged me along for 5 weeks, then told me he wouldn't do it. Frustrated for having to wait so long, I called Steve back. He was friendly and prompt, getting back out within a couple of days to update my quote. Quote went up a grand, but that was for the additional footage of line he said. I was ok with that as the other bid I got was $9400. He seemed a bit arrogant, saying multiple times over our interactions that pretty much every other contractor out there was crap and he was the only one who would do this job right, yada yada. Whatever, I just needed someone to do the job.
Told him to go ahead and he started almost right away. I wanted to use a couple of different credit cards to use the rewards. Might as well earn a trip or something for spending so much money right? He seemed like he doesn't really do CC much as he had to figure out how to take cards, especially AMEX. But in the end, he worked it out for me and I used them, albeit, with a 3% additional charge. I was ok with that though.  Oh, forgot to add, the 5% coupon listed here on angies list, yeah, guess that's only for small jobs. He knocked $100 off...not the $370 which was 5%. He kept making it sound like he was doing me a favor for charging me what he charged me.
Here's where the fun started. I was heading out of town the Friday that he started digging. Shouldn't have been a problem he said. He just needed access to my garage for the electrical (we were installing a pump since my drain field was uphill). I arranged for a friend of mine to have my door opener and set up a time for him to meet up the electrician. My friend showed up, the electrician didn't. This happened 3 different times during the week. 3 different no-shows from electricians. At this point, I started getting pretty frustrated. He said it was the electricians' fault, they were all sorry, couldn't find a decent electrician, etc. Well, I got back in town and we continued to have electrician problems. I paid him $6500 for the septic job minus the electric work and we waited...and waited...and waited. He finally said he got someone to come do the electrical work after about 2 weeks of us waiting. The guy was going to show up in the evening one night. I arranged my schedule, and he no-showed once. Arranged my schedule again, he showed up but just came to look at what he needed, no work done. Finally about the 4th time I arranged my schedule, he showed up one evening. My wife was home, I wasn't until about 8pm. I got home from work and I found a man sitting in my garage. He was using stuff from my garage, my personal belongings (my fan for instance) and he looked like he was about to have a heart attack. It was getting dark and he was digging a trench. He hadn't brought any of his own tools, so he found some of my shovels and was using them! All of a sudden I was feeling very unsafe for my wife being home alone with him. Just wasn't exuding professionalism, you know? and he obviously felt comfortable waltzing into my garage and using what he needed. He dug a little bit more then came back the next night. I was at work again and he was at my house till almost 10:30! My wife couldn't go to bed, or close the garage door. I felt unsafe for her to be home alone with some shady contractor at my house so late. So he got the electric done but alas, he wasn't licensed to be able to pull a permit for it. Evidently he was a family friend. So Steve started looking for electricians to come do the permit process for this guys' work. Surprise, more no-shows and we waited even more.
Finally, I had to track down my own electrician to do the permitting! Steve said he called "every electrician in Fayette Co". We finally got it permitted. Came time to pay, Total electric work was a 15' trench, about $50 worth of supplies, wiring a wire into an existing outlet and $70 for a permit. I asked how this was worth $1000(which was the unpaid balance reserved for electric) and he said the trench alone was worth $500! Seriously, Hire this out yourself if you ever find yourself needing a pump! It can save about $800! He did knock off $100 for "all the trouble" but was quick to make sure I knew that it was really him who was suffering, saying he all but lost money on this and trying to make me feel bad about his electrician problems.
I'm glad for the septic being done but it was anything but pleasant. I think Steve did the best he could and there were some things out of his control. But the fact that it took almost 4 weeks to find an electrician to do my electrical work that I could have easily done in 3 hours and that it cost $1000 for the electrical work was frustrating. Steve's crew seemed very nice and I liked them a lot.
Response from Precision Septic Tanks
"After admitting our price was $2000 lower than anyone else quoted, still complaining about the price. The electrical work did not cost $1000 nor did the homeowner pay $1000 for it. That much was deducted from our final bill until an electrician was found to wire the pump and said work was done. Numerous electricians were contacted before anyone would come out to do the work. No one wanted the job. We did our job promptly, well and cheaper than any other contractor quoted, as admitted by said homeowner. The septic pump had to be wired by a licensed electrician. Something only required in the county this particular job is located in. Every other county (per code) we wire the pumps and everything goes smoothly. The acts of the electrician(s) had nothing to do with our company nor should they reflect on our company in any way. I do apologize if the hired outside contractor that had nothing to do with our company used your fan and your shovel. I can provide you contact info for the responsible party if any damage occured to your fan or your shovel."

Despite our realtor?s assurance that the septic tank of our newly purchased home would be pumped
before closing, this was not done. Moreover, the county department responsible
for approving septic installations advised us that our home had an antiquated
septic system which had not been pumped since the house was built (1995), and
that any failure would likely be catastrophic. After insuring ourselves against
such a failure, imagine my surprise to discover every drain backed up the night
before a scheduled outpatient surgery requiring six weeks of bed rest. Found
Precision Septic Tanks on Angie?s List, who worked us into their schedule
within 24 busy business hours, arrived promptly, located and uncovered our
packed septic system, and quickly pumped it dry. More than this, they
identified a critical but disintegrating component on the interior of the tank,
and although the initial price was more than we could comfortably afford, they
offered us a significant discount, stating that they would rather see it done
right than leave it in a state of imperfect repair. Precision?s team was polite,
knowledgeable, and very skilled, demonstrating what they were doing and why it
was necessary at every step of the process. Additionally, each technician
worked fiercely and continuously until our job was completed to perfection. Now,
rather than wonder how much longer our septic system will last, we feel confident
that it will last at least another five years, and doubtless longer with
regular maintenance. It was a privilege to be served by such a great team of
skilled professionals, and the final price was very satisfactory.

Job went well, base price for pump out was a bit higher than expected.

"Thanks Mr. (member name removed) for the positive feedback. It and your business are appreciated. We offer a set, upfront, price that may seem like more than some of the other competition who offer what seems like low prices, then end up charging overinflated rates for unneeded ad ons and extra charges for things that should be included. We don't use any smoke and mirrors just honest work and upfront pricing. Thank you again and be sure to calls again in 3-5 years when you service is due. It was a pleasure doing business with you. Steve"

Mr Woodward from Precision Septic Tank came and looked at my problem, he gave me an estimate and when I decided to go ahead he came back the next day and worked on my septic system. He had to pump out my tank and replace the field lines I think that is what you call them. This morning everything is working perfectly! Thank you Mr Woodward and Precision Septic!

Mr Woodward came and looked at our yard where the septic tank was and checked our drain field then gave us an estimate. He came and worked on our system installing a new septic tank and drain lines (0urs had grass growing inside) since ours were no longer working. Once the job was finished it came to a few dollars less than the estimate he had given. We are very well pleased with the over all job he did and with the prompt friendly professional service. I would highly recommend Precision Septic Tank Service to any one who needs  theirs worked on or replaced!
