+ -1 moreThe contractor was out of town for another week so that was another delay. It would have been OK, if he would have initially told me to anticipate that delay, but he didn't. He told me he would begin work the next day. I felt misled. When he finally faxed over an estimate, it was very vague. It wasn't broken down at all. I have to give KT some credit because he did come back out after I brought it up. It then took him 2 weeks to finish. It took a full month to finish the job. In the contract I said I wouldn't pay until the job was done, but he came to me half way through wanting payment for the paint. He said they do "jam up" work which I thought would be good. I just told him I would pay for the paint which got us over the hump. There were some caulking and ceiling texture problems as well. He said that was as good as it gets and he couldn't come back out to fix it. Although eventually I did get value out of the job, I had to bring a different contractor in to finish the job right.
Description of Work: They painted the downstairs of my home. I felt like I was real clear on what needed to be done. It took about a week for him to come back out. He had a lot of questions and was trying to feel me out to see how much I'd pay. I didn't like that, I just wanted a straight estimate. He contracted to finalize the prep and then paint 2 rooms for about $900. Be forewarned, he is a tricky negotiator - it took 3 drafts to get onto paper what we had agreed to verbally. He doesn't follow through on faxing as promptly as he says he will. His phone got disconnected for several days in the middle of job. Not only did he start job later than initially agreed, but he didn't claim to have finished the job until a few days after the contract end date. Worse still, though he said he was totally done with job and ready to be paid, the job was actually only 90% finished. Once I told him I wouldn't pay him fully until it was complete, he did return and finished the job for the most part.
