Before they removed the flooring, the put up plastic on the doors so that the dust stayed in the room they were removing the hardwood floors. They cleaned the area very meticulously as to not leave any saw dust on the floor. When they laid the hardwood floor they asked me first if I wanted the flooring to go in the same direction as the old one or a different direction. The team was very courteous and conscientious about their work and keeping the area where they were working and the room cleaned.
"[Member name removed] and I did have an unusual conversation. In my experience when dealing with insurance companies and customers are that the customer almost never understands how the process works. In my professional opinion [Member name removed] lost her entire floor, the water damage is extensive. She did not hear my explanation that beyond the damage from the water that there may also be a dye lot issue, meaning that the new flooring won't match by just replacing part of the floor, or the product might have changed in some other way in the manufacturing. Just by the humidity changing the part of the floor that appears to be undisturbed, such as mold or mildew, but she would not let me explain. The long and short of it is that [Member name removed] called me first and should have called her insurance to make that determination. Most insurance companies will go above and beyond to correct customer claims. But for some reason consumers have come to the conclusion that they will be cancelled if they turn in a claim. A fear the insurance company? As for myself, if I purchase a something (like insurance) I want to access to it. If you purchased a car, surely you would not leave it at the dealership. When [Member name removed] meets with her insurance company she may call me back and apologize for the unethical remark. [Member name removed] is a good customer and needs to come the understanding that the "whole floor" is damaged in some way."
The following list includes some, but not all, of the problems:
a. gaps between boards
b. boards not lined up
c. gashes in walls and baseboards
d. exposed nail holes running the length of the several walls
e. lots of off-colored putty smeared in between the spaces and gaps of boards
f. boards split
g. boards chipped
h. floor scratched in several rooms
i. some areas not finished off with shoe molding
j. floor not laid down in accordance to the manufacture?s specifications
Mayfield Carpets filed a complaint against us in Magistrate Court on 12/19/2013. You can find the civil action in public
records with Case Number: 2013MV01645. After subpoenas, loss of work, and exhaustive attorney?s fees, we won the case (our counter claim) on 02/26/2014. The judge decided that we did not owe Mayfield Carpets any money, but that they owe us $7,585.46. As of May 2014, they have yet to pay the Court?s judgment. We hope that they will do the right thing and pay us soon.
Pictures can speak a thousand words, so we have attached a few photos of their completed floor. The photos were taken on 06/29/2013.
So, will I return, I'm not sure. I find that part of dealing with them disturbing, even if they do a good job. Thank you.
They went right to work and it all was finished in short order. Everything was put back in place. All material was thoroughly cleaned up. The new carpet was even vacuumed by the young men.
I will definitely use this firm in the future.
Mayfield Carpeting is the standard for best business
practices. Each of their employees proved courteous, knowledgeable, and
professional in every respect. New arrivals in the area, we went first to a
"big box" home improvement store (which actually subcontracts local
carpet sales, cleaning, and repair companies). While the store offered relatively
high quality products, availability and installation scheduling were
problematic, and ultimately, the value for the price was just not there. We
approached Mayfield's immediately before closing time in an effort simply to
get an idea of the company's selection: Joyce and Ferrol Mayfield insisted that we come in, and spent a significant amount
of time advising us about the advantages and disadvantages of various carpets. For
a similar price, Mayfield's offered an even more formidable carpet (tighter
weave, anti-microbial, pet odor and stain resistant, with a completely
impermeable padding [from top and bottom]) than the best available from the big
box store. Ferrol himself measured our house,
taking 35 minutes less than the big box?s specialist. On the appointed day, two
installers showed up on the minute, and the work was immediately underway. When
pet stains were found to have penetrated the wooden subfloor of one bedroom,
creating a number of active mold colonies, Mayfield?s techs immediately
informed me, scraped the wood, and applied a fast-drying paint-like mold
killer/sealer before laying the carpet. Once the installation was complete,
Mayfield?s techs swept and vacuumed thoroughly before departing. From start to
finish, ?it went perfectly.?
