One of the inspectors for this company damaged items in my home. I brought the items to the attention of the inspector, and the company owner. <br/>Both the inspector, and the company owner:
* Assumed that I am in the wrong
* Spoke over me, in a condescending manner, and barely gave me a chance to speak
* Refused to listen to reason that they made a mistake
* Refused to take responsibility for their mistake
Although the inspection report was detailed, I had to find out after I moved in (too late) that several items were missed.
Particularly the custom refrigerator was marked as operational/functional by the inspector but was not cooling when I moved in.
After several weeks without a fridge and an eventual assessment and repair, it was concluded that the fridge had no coolant at all due to a leak in the cooling system. Consequently, it is impossible that it was operational and functioning at the time of inspection.
The "warranty" NPI offers does not cover refrigerators, so don't be fooled by that.
Replacement of the fridge would have been $8,000. Luckily because the parts were still under warranty, the repair was ?only? $700, instead of $2,500.
I tried to work out an arrangement with the owner, to help pay for the repair - since they missed this during the inspection - but only received a lame email saying the refrigerator must have broken AFTER the inspection.
CANNOT RECOMMEND - STAY AWAY!
"At NPI we have one of the best warranties available from a home inspection company. It covers most mechanical failures, structural failures, roof leaks and undiscovered damage to the main sewer and water line from the house to the street. As with most home warranties it does not cover the refrigerator. The warranty companies don't cover refrigerators because they have a high risk of failure, especially in a vacant house. Our warranty certificate clearly states the covered items. Nothing is hidden. It is unfortunate that the refrigerator lost its refrigerant following our inspection. Our inspector evaluated the refrigerator the same way we have in thousands of home inspections and even submitted details from the internal data plate for our exclusive appliance Recall Chek. Our inspector did his job and determined the refrigerator and freezer were at the proper temperature at the one of inspection. It is not the responsibility of any home inspector to pay for repairs that are needed for defects or damaged the occur after the inspection is completed."
