"In response to your review I apologize for my laugh when you stated the magnitude of work you wanted performed should only take one hour. But as said a lot of people say that. Most are kidding. I’m truly sorry if I offended you, however, you were informed that our service fee to send a fully licensed, criminal background checked and insured plumber to your home would be $46.00 not $49.00 as written in your review and that our labor rate is $79.00 per hour and that if you wanted to know any costs the plumber upon arrival after he looks at the scope of work you would like performed would be happy to give you a complete quotation of the cost of work to be performed before he started. All you have to do is ask, however, our plumber was over 2 hours into the project before you inquired both to my plumber and then to me in the office as to the required time the work would take. Our plumber was able to quickly furnish you the hours necessary to complete. Again, I’m truly sorry for offending you by laughing, but not for the time it takes to perform our work properly and professionally. I am sending you a valuable coupon to be used for any up and coming service you may need. My reputation is built on honesty and reliability. I look forward to being there in your time of need. Description of work correction: 1. Re-rough and re-route drain line because new sink was different than original sink 2. Install, hook up new waste line to sink 3. Install new kitchen sink faucet 4. Re-route cold water piping and install new water filtration unit supplied by owner in which they didn’t have one before. 5. Hook up hot and cold supply piping to faucet 6. Remove new dishwasher from box, move into place, mount dishwasher. Install cold water supply to dishwasher and hook up. Also run drain discharge from new dishwasher to drain connection and hook up and connect existing power supply wiring to new dishwasher. 7. Upon completion test new dishwasher and test and flush new plumbing."
I called about a leaky shower in my master bath. It is a Moen Positemp fixture. It had started leaking about 6 weeks earlier, and I had replaced the cartridge at that time with a Danco one (ONLY use genuine Moen parts I've since discovered). Now that it was leaking again I felt I should get a pro to look at it. Looking back on it, I should have just paid the $46 service call fee and done the replacement myself.
First of all he informed me that their cartridge (which is supposed to be genuine Moen, and I have no reason to doubt that) was $77. The exact same part at Home Depot is $44. Now I have no problem with a company charging a mark-up on parts, but first of all they aren't paying $44 each, they get them at wholesale more likely around $35, so they mark their parts up 100% apparently, and that I feel is a bit excessive.
Secondly, the $46 service call apparently does not include ANY time. The plumber was in my house for less than 30 minutes, and still charged a full $79/hr labor. I actually don't have a problem with $79/hr labor, that seems reasonable to me for a professional. What is unreasonable is when it is charged on top of a $46 service call and for a 30 minute job. That makes the effective rate in this case $250/hr and that I do feel is outrageous.
This job really should have cost around $125, and I would have been very happy and given them a glowing recommendation, but at $207 for a $44 part and 20 minutes time, I'm quite dissatisfied.
Overall, I was happy with the person, and he seemed competent, but I am very dissatisfied with their pricing. I may use them again on a big job where I need someone here for multiple hours, but never again for something small like this.
"In response to Mr. [member name removed] comments, Mr. [member name removed] spoke with me personally when he called to set up an appointment for service. He asked and was given the cost of our service fee to come out to his home. I apologize if he misunderstood that the $46.00 service fee he was quoted is the cost associated with paying a licensed professional plumber, fuel, tools and truck and all associated insurances to come to his residence and diagnose his problem and recommend necessary repairs with the exact cost of those repairs. Mr. [member name removed] was given an exact up front cost for his repairs before any work was performed. We at Water Source believe in up front pricing. Mr. [member name removed] told my plumber to proceed and make the necessary repair. Included in the scope of work is turning off all water to the home, removing trim and defective cartridge that was installed by Mr. [member name removed], then installation of new genuine Moen factory cartridge, re-assembly of faucet trim, turning back on water supply and flushing line to remove air and testing of fixture. Then my plumber tested the water pressure on the home and found that it was extremely high (around 120 PSI). This is considered extremely high pressure and should be addressed immediately before Mr. [member name removed] has any major plumbing system failures. My plumber also gave Mr. [member name removed] a cost to perform replacement of the water pressure regulating valve to remedy this situation. Mr. [member name removed] didn’t want it addressed. Our repair price never changed. I feel that based on this scope of work, a $79.00 labor charge is more than fair. For the record we don’t purchase 100% recommended manufacturer parts from big box stores like Home Depot as mentioned nor can we purchase them for such a low price as mentioned, nor do we practice 100% mark up. We do charge a fair market price for installing the right parts, fixing the problem with a licensed plumber and an insured company that stands behind their work. I am sending Mr. [member name removed] a coupon that he can use to offset any costs on his next service call and look forward to being of service to him in the future."
