The best way to kill off an algae bloom in an aboveground pool is to shock it with a large dose of chlorine. After the shock treatment, add algaecide to prevent algae from growing back, and test the water every few days with test strips to ensure the pool’s pH doesn’t get out of whack.

Fiberglass pools require the least amount of maintenance. Part of this has to do with their durability. Fiberglass has a smooth, non-porous surface that helps resist algae growth, cutting down on weekly maintenance. They also require less long-term maintenance than other pool types. They don’t need resurfacing like concrete pools, and you won’t have to replace the liner like you would with a vinyl-lined pool.

You can install an aboveground pool on various surfaces, including dirt, sand, concrete, and grass. You can’t install a pool on an uneven surface, though, so be sure to level the ground before building your pool. You also can’t install your pool on top of a rocky surface. Three or 4 inches of smooth sand or soil is the ideal surface to go under an aboveground pool.
