And they were actually pathetic apologizing for being given incorrect instructions and materials from WW. This happened so many times we finally gave up waiting and begging for this work to be completed. I wrote the CEO of WW months ago and have yet to hear from anyone. Appointments were cancelled at times and sometimes late but that is understandable as we are located in a remote area of the service district. My next step will be to contact The Georgia Governors Office of Consumer Affairs but I must tell you, it will take days to compile this complaint with the facts involved with this complaint.
"I hope that what we did met your satisfaction. We are glad we were able to get this taken care of, and we apologize for the inconvenience."
As for the person sent to verify the measurements, he was not very professional. He even questioned my relationship with my husband after I finished a brief phone call with him while he was at work. I simply called my husband to check if he had any questions or concerns. The man even suggested my husband may have another woman in his office...and all that a comment like that would imply. He gave me a lot of "lip service", saying how he could do our job in one day by himself. Note: he is not installing our windows.
The installers that are TRYING to complete this job are very polite, courteous and professional. Except that they can't arrive on time.
As for the quality of the install, I'm still waiting.
Hey! They finally arrived! Only 55 minutes late! A record! Oh. My crew of 2 is now only 1. The 2nd man from the first 2 days is celebrating his birthday. His mom made plans. You never mess with mom. However, the other guy coming in to help is supposed to arrive later. How is 1 person supposed to install a picture widow that is approximately 56" w x 80" h by himself? Not to mention the 5 8' wide sliding doors.
WHAT WE'VE EXPERIENCED SO FAR:
Day 1, Thursday. The 2 man crew arrived and started on the only single window to be installed, in the basement, ground level, easy place to start and find out what would need to be done to remove 40 year old wood frame windows. Window World's company approach is to just chisel out the old frame until the window sort of fits. The lead installer did work on the first window for a long time, trying to figure out how the replacement size was measured. After a while, he walked off to call his supervisor. When he finally managed to contact his supervisor, there was a long conversation. The installer told us that he would prefer to remove the old window completely, reframe the opening to fit the window, and subsequently install the window in square. BUT, that is not what will be done. That costs more money. We have 7 other new windows in this house. 1 installed by my husband and my 72 year old dad. 2 framed by us and the other 4 replaced and installed by another professional company. Window World's price is exactly the same as 2 other companies quoted for our 40 year old home. So our first 4 windows were replaced properly (removed old windows and reframed), and at the same price as Window World, but Window World won't reframe the opening because of cost. Interesting.
Day 2, Friday. The 2 man crew arrives 1 hour 45 minutes late. My husband's 2nd day off work. My husband calls a company representative. More lip service.
More seemingly endless chiseling to TRY to make the other windows fit. There are 2 double windows and one triple ( 3 windows attached to each other). They are certainly NOT square. They aren't all level. How will they operate when it's warmer than 40 degrees outside and there is expansion? The installer now seems worried that we aren't happy, and with good reason. He says it will look good when they're done. I'm more interested in proper installation and insulation than looks at this point.
The installer did some sweeping and vacuuming with our shop vac. We had to sweep up and vacuum up all the rest of the wood chips and shards from the chiseling so my 7 year old could go to the bathroom at night without getting a splinter. We had to tuck sheets and towels around all the windows since they're not finished. 30 degrees outside. I didn't want my daughter to freeze. Since the windows were not framed, there are huge gaps. Yes, the windows are manufactured with foam insulation around them, but that foam doesn't insulate anything if it's not touching framing. I can reach around the frame with my fingers, past the foam, to the outside of the window frame. I can also see daylight around the frame.
So it is 10:50 on day 3, Saturday. My husband is helping the installer try to reframe the 2nd picture window. Yes, my husband is having to install the windows now.
It is now 2:30. The other installer won't be here to help until 3:00. The installer here is finishing off the exterior of the windows alone. I'm curious to see how the large gaps will be filled/ covered.
UPDATE
The second installer arrived late Saturday and started finishing off the interior window work. We were originally told that they don't spray foam, but the second installer did spray from inside. He had to. The gaps around the windows were big and uneven. The trim work inside was finished and caulked. It looked good when completed, although my husband pointed out that we would have to paint the new trim after the salesman said everything would be completed, including any painting. Both installers worked until 7 pm, cleaned up and left around 7:40.
Sunday, day 4. The lead installer said he had another job to complete and would arrive at our home around noon. He called at 8:50am and asked if he could come finish our job. He and his crew (3 total) arrived at 9:30. They started replacing the sliding doors. We had 5 old metal frame sliders to replace. This work was more straight forward than the windows. Just rip out the old slider frames and install new frames. We were fortunate that there was no rot or insect damage to any of the wood. However, the installers did not insulate around the slider frames. In fact, the lead installer didn't have spray foam on his truck. My husband grabbed the few can we had in the basement and foamed the sliders in the living room himself. What good are insulated doors if the frame isn't insulated? The old sliders at least had fiberglass insulation shoved around them. At this point it was late afternoon on Sunday and there was still so much that had to be finished. We decided we would buy more low expansion window/ door foam and insulate the other 3 sliders ourselves later. We took lumber from our garage, ripped it down on our table saw, and my husband trimmed out the 2 picture windows by the front door. The crew worked late with spotlights to finish trimming and caulking the exterior of the sliders and picture windows. They left at 9:30 pm! We were not happy with the late hour, but we had no choice. We had work and school on Monday. The job needed to get done!
Monday. My review of the install had posted with pictures. To say that Window World was not pleased would be an understatement. My pictures simply showed how the installation had proceeded. No, they were not pleasant; however, they were what we witnessed as part of our install. Again, this experience was not our first window replacement. It can be rather startling to see the difference between one company's installation method and another's. Arrangements were made with our installer and an upper management person to resolve any issues and finally complete the job.
Tuesday. Carter arrived at 11am as scheduled. He had already had numerous conversations with my husband about our expectations and what needed to be completed. The installers arrived late, at 1, to finish caulking and take care of cleaning. A screen on our porch had been accidentally torn, which they also replaced. Everything was finally fished at 2:30. DONE!!!
Overall, we can't overlook the discrepancies between the sales pitch and reality. Not just from the salesman, but also from the representative who double checked the measurements before the windows were ordered. We also can't overloo
"Thank you for your review! We are so thankful for customers like you."
