We're very happy with our new roof. First of all, before I had even decided to replace the shingles, Denny got up on the roof with me and pointed out the current weaknesses in the old shingles. Nail heads were popping up and leaving room for water to get in. Also, the shingles were no longer adhering to each other - shingles should stick together like fish scales. I didn't know that. Debris was being blown up under the shingles and allowing more air and water to get in underneath. Denny showed me that the underlayment was moist, and he said that should never happen. That's when we decided to have the roof replaced. After the old shingles had been removed, I went up on the roof to see if there was any decking damage from the few leaks we had accrued through the old shingles. Denny showed me a few damaged and cracked areas and a large rotting area on the corner of the roof. This is where our little leak in the bedroom ceiling was coming from. Also, by the time I got on the roof, they had already rebuilt the "cricket," which is an area above the chimney where water gets directed away from the back of the chimney. The original cricket was totally rotted. I was very pleased with this, and it let me know that they were doing repairs to important sections of the roof before putting the new shingles down. That improved my outlook on the whole project. They weren't covering anything up. They were fixing things correctly before the new shingles were installed. When the roofing started, they covered all the bushes and sidewalks to keep the debris from scattering everywhere, and anything that fell around the nets was picked up and carried away. There were lots of roofing nails that had to be picked up, and they went over that with a magnet and cleared the walking and driving areas. That was something that I was worried about, but they did wonderfully at cleaning everything up during and after the job. The roof looks great, and we're very pleased with the work.
