I have had ongoing service with ADT for more than ten years. Recently, I deactivated my alarm for renovations to my house, but continued to pay the service fee, intending to resume service. I called last week to set an appointment to have a technician come by to reinstall sensors on my new doors and to activate the system. They were supposed to come today between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. When no one had arrived and I had not been contacted at 12:30, I called to find out the status of my work order. The person I spoke with said the technician was supposed to be here between 1 and 5 p.m. When I pushed the issue, she admitted that he was scheduled for this morning and he should be here around 1:30 because he had gotten tied up on another job. I asked why I hadn't been contacted to either reschedule or cancel the appointment, and was told that and quot;they aren't required to call you.and quot; At that point I realized, I'm not required to do business with people who take their long term customers for granted, and who provide terrible customer service. I told her to cancel the appointment and that I wanted to cancel my service. Here's the really insane part...she put me on hold for five minutes to call the technician to tell him not to come (Obviously the top piority is not to inconvenience their techs with service calls) before she would transfer me to the department to request cancellation of service. When I talked to the guy to cancel my service, there was no apology, no attempt to retain me as a customer, and he didn't appear to be bother by it at all. My impression was that this must be a common occurrance for him. My last date of service with this company was today, January 10, 2013. I have already contacted an Angie's List Super Service provider in this area who is going out of his way to meet my needs associated with my installed system, and who gave me a two-hour window for service on Monday. That's one small step for a very poor service povider, and one giant leap for Angie's List!
