May 2015
On 5/12/2015 On 5/12/2015 Darren Lacy CEO of Gemstone Carpet and Flooring LLC. I was shown a sample board of wood flooring colors, I picked the one closest to the color of my flooring. I was told the floor wouldn't match exactly but would darken over time as my floors have. The color of the wood was listed on the estimate as Neutral. My floors are a natural color.
On 5/14/2015 Darren returned to the home because I agreed to have him do my floors, I asked him to rewrite the estimate again he listed ENG HW Neutral as what my floors would be. I then paid him for all the work and labor.
On May 15, 2015 Darren Lacy delivered the wood to my home in boxes and had some of the wood out. He showed me that wood and said this is the wood that would be installed. The wood he showed me matched what I selected on the sample board and was close to my original wood. He said this is your wood for your flooring, I took it to match against my wood, he again said "now remember its not going to match exactly but it will darken over time to match your floors".
On May 17, 2015 his installers installed a totally different color wood. Its not the wood I picked, nor the wood listed on the Estimate sheet. Its a deep red wood and doesn't match my wood which is a natural with tans and yellows. It also does not match the wood he showed me as me when he delivered the wood. That would was installed as borders and on my stairs. He refused to listen to reason, told me I didn't know what I was talking about, said I didn't know anything about wood, so I couldn't tell him that wasn't the same color. He insisted that the my original floor was once that color and the reason it isn't now is because its older. This is despite the two woods being Totally different colors, and even then. Its not the wood I selected and not the same color of the wood he showed when he dropped off the wood, and also mix matched to the wood he was putting on my stairs. He said he would not finish my stairs because I wouldn't listen to him and he left while threatening to sue me if I cancelled his payments.
On May 18, 2015 I called Darren and texted him before he called me back. We agreed I would go get samples from Lowes and HomeDepot of wood that said Natural Red Oak wood that is closer to the color of my floors, to end the ridculous argument that the only reason the floors are totally different colors is because the come from a different lot of wood and mines is old. Everyone knows you can get wood any type of wood in varying colors, but I humored him anyway thinking it might get us passed the argument to resolving the issues.
So, I took a sample of the wood to Loews and Homedepot 6 people from the flooring and wood departments agreed it was not the same color, because its obvious. They had a sample of the color of my wood. I called him while I was in Lowes and they tried to explain to him they were not the same and he argued with 3 men from the Lowes flooring department and would not listen. He put in Engineered Natural Red Oak wood which is was in a deep red colored and I have a natural colored floor he said is also red oak wood, but it is a natural color not a red and I didn't pick that color he installed.
He admits that Natural red Oak wood comes in many colors but won't admit he put down the wrong color. Its not the color I picked nor the color listed on my estimate/invoice.
At the end of the day its a breach of contract. I picked a wood color and he put it down on 2 different documents, on 2 separate days Eng HW Neutral. He installed Natural Red Oak in a red deep red color. Even what is used as a model number on the box for the wood he installed is a color code for red. He also did not finish my stairs and he put mix matched wood on my hallway upstairs and on the landing. He was put a different color wood for my the stair lip. On the stair lips is a natural/neutral color wood like the wood he showed me when he dropped off the wood and the color I picked.

My experience was great. The price was great, we had 3 other companies that came out to do our project and they had the best price. The quality of work was great and they came out and finished the job quickly.

WE WERE PLEASED. THERE WERE A COUPLE OF THINGS HE HAD TO COME BACK AND FIX. FOR SOME REASON THEY GOT THE WRONG COLOR OF WOOD THE FIRST TIME, BUT OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS GOOD.
