Sterling Paint and Construction Services is a family run business which has been established for over 36 years. In this time the company has earned a reputation for a very high standard of workmanship with local authorities, Personal Homes, Business, schools and builders through out the southeast. Owner Ben Hawkins started the business in 1979 in his home town of Tucker, Ga. He worked on his own in the early years and gradually built the business up to the present day, directly employing an experienced, insured and legal workforce. Sterling Paint and Construction is capable of carrying out residential and large scale commercial contracts and has been involved in restoration works for residential homes, office buildings, hospitals, office developments, and apartment blocks. Sterling Paint and Construction prides itself on being able to offer any service in the painting industry and our staff are all trained to a very high standard to ensure that top quality workmanship is achieved at all times .

Problem #1 is that they made a mess and killed some of my shrubs. It was a multi day project where they came out and pressure washed the pergola to clean it. Several plants in the surrounding area had some fibrous material stuck on them, which couldn't be removed, and several other shrubs died due to the chemicals they used. Problem #2 is that the staining was uneven and now I have several segments that are different shades. The lighter shaded areas don't seem to repel any water either. Problem #3 is the biggest problem. There are now several carpenterbee holes all over the pergola. We have had carpenter bees make homes in our fence before, but the origional seal kept the bees off the pergola. We have had this pergola for 5 years, and not one carpenter bee issue until we had it redone by Sterling.

"This is the first time since we completed this job in the fall of last year. The Homeowner and I talked about the Plants and for us to clean the area he wanted cleaned we had to use a chemical cleaner. This was several months ago and I do remember the conversation and I Think, we may have gone back out to his home and rinsed the plants off, when we clean a dirty surface we have to use a cleaner, to get the area cleaned that the Customer hired us to do. We do not want or intent to harm any plants of any customers, but sometimes it does happen. The Customers are informed of this a the time I give the Estimate, that the customer wants completed, The wood when cleaned may change colors, this depends on the wood grain, all wood has different color wood grains."

The quote wasn't the lowest I had but with the Angie's List discount it was pretty close. Ben was up front about what additional repair work might be needed once they were on site (like the chimney) The crew showed up promptly every day and did a very professional job. Malcolm was responsive to a few requests I had once they got started. After the job was complete and I had paid, I found a couple of items I had missed during the inspection When I contacted Ben (email works best) he got right back to me and had them fixed with no additional charge. Very pleased with the work overall.

The workers did an excellent job. They showed up everyday at 8:00 and stayed until 3:00. They cleaned up the debris. They were very skillful . The rotten wood at the roof line was difficult to reach and repair, however they brought their ladders and tackled the job.

Mr. Hawkins only came to the house the first time we met. I had to send pictures and call to tell him when something was no done right, which was often. Painting was done without even removing hooks from walls, Sheetrock repair was not square, dust from sanding left everywhere, I could go on. No response from contractor for over six weeks two different times. $5,000 job took FOUR months. ultimate had to pay another contractor to finish the job. And, then Sterling sent me a bill 5% higher than original quote. Do not hire.

Sterling's performance was outstanding! They used traditional wood siding and trim and took down, repaired and replaced the window shutters as requested. They were the only bidder that agreed to this request/requirement, which was, along with their guarantee to protect the foundation planting and no pruning, was the primary reason I awarded Sterling the work. Bn Hawkins, Sterling's manager. was a pleasure to work with.

They replaced the wood with Hardi-plank on the soffits and several areas of the chimney exterior, and matched paints to the original colors.

They did a fantastic job! The house is a rental, and the renters left it in VERY poor condition. The outside was also very weathered due to its age. But, when the crew got done, the house looked like Brand New, inside and out. They were very prompt, did VERY detailed and professional work, and the the price was VERY reasonable. I will absolutely hire them again if I ever need any house work done, and I highly recommend them to everyone.

I have never worked with such a diligent group of craftsmen. They made sure that every detail was done perfectly. They listened to our questions and requests throughout the process and gave us the feeling that they genuinely care that the customer is pleased with the work. We have hired several contractors and this group was the most professional group we have worked with. We are so happy with how the paint and deck turned out. They worked on the paint prep and sealing work, the paint, and the construction work with the care someone would use on their own home.

A+ service at a fair price. The crews that came to our house were professional, prompt, courteous,and cleaned up every day. Ben Hawkins was our contact person and was easy to deal with and always returned emails or calls. The work was of first quality and came with a warranty. They were very good. I have no complaints with the painting. The only complaint I had was that the basic carpentry was fine, but I had to get a part of the roof done over because it did not look that great. They were perfectly willing to do it until I was satisfied.

The men that they brought were their own men, they were not random men that they picked up off the street. They were full time employees and were very polite. They were able to schedule a time that worked well for me and showed up on time. He also did not require me to pay a dime BEFORE the work was completed. He even stated "You do not have to pay anything until you look at the work and are pleased with the outcome." I would not hesitate to go with them again! They will be my first choice for my next project.

We have hired Sterling for multiple jobs over the last couple years - at two different properties. I always think the quote is fair and well detailed. We occasionally run into a small extra charge in addition to the quote (most recently less than 1%), but it's always reasonable and clear. Ben is very responsive and professional (and nice). The quality of the work is good and if we have any questions or issues, they are quickly addressed. We are just about to embark on a new project at a new home that he will be quoting.

I am actually somewhat surprised by all the excellent recommendations for Sterling. My experience with them was very average. I would give them a B- if I were able. The quality of work that was done was good, but there were lots of additional charges and took 6 or 7 weeks to complete the project. Ben came out to give me a quote initially. His quote was not the lowest that I had received but I felt that they would do a quality job and wanted to work with his company. He agreed to discount his quote by half of the difference between the two. Carpentry: The first prep crew that was out to the house started using large amounts of wood filler to fill rotten ends of trim boards. I told Ben that wasn’t the kind of quality work that I expected them to do. After that, the carpentry crews seemed to do a better job at replacing section of rotted trim. The carpentry portion of the job continued for quite some time – several weeks. I had to repeatedly send Ben pictures of rotten boards that needed to be replaced before they were addressed. The quality of work that was done was really good. Unfortunately, I had to act as a quality control on the job for several things. Paint: The painting seemed to go much faster than the carpentry work. My only issue with the painting was that the flashing on the front of the house wasn’t painted, and I had to repeatedly remind (and send pictures) to Ben that it needed to be painted. Again, the paint quality seemed to really good with the exception of a few small things. Gutters: The gutter and gutter helmet installation went OK. One section of gutter on the front of the house was not installed initially. I had to call Ben and send him an old picture of the house showing him that there was indeed a section of gutter in that area before. He had his subcontractor come back out and install the missing section of gutter. The gutters were then painted to match the trim since the stock color wasn’t an exact match. The quality of the gutter installation was also excellent. Professionalism: There were some issues with the crew’s professionalism. One side of the house has some small trees and overgrown landscaping. In order to paint this side of the house, the crew cut down 2-3 small trees and broke many branches on the bushes. I understand that some of this has to happen, but this was rather extensive damage….to the point that I am now going to have to replace some of the landscaping in this area. I also found two flood light bulbs that were thrown into the woods behind my house. I had to pick up the broken pieces from these bulbs. Ben initially told me that he thought the entire process would take 2 weeks plus time for the gutter work. The project ended up taking 6-7 weeks for completion. Pricing: I did have Ben add some additional siding replacement to the project after it started. This was a small section of siding, but it was on the second story roof. Including this additional section, I was charged and additional $1335 beyond the initial quote of $5769 for painting and carpentry. I understand that there will be additional things that can’t be seen when given a quote, but a 23% difference from the quote to the final bill seemed rather excessive. One additional charge in particular that I did not agree with was a $225 charge for nails and nailing on a section of existing bulging siding. This should have been included in the original quote and if not, then $225 was very excessive for this item. After telling Ben that I wouldn’t be calling him back to quote replacing my deck because of the excessive additional charges, he wanted to take away the $225 nailing charge but also charge me an additional $140 for more brick molding that he said hadn’t included before. Overall I am happy with the quality of work that was done, but it came with several headaches, many additional charges and took way longer than it should have.

"Thanks, for your response, After we Pressure Washed the Home, We did run in to a lot more rotten on this home than was expected, He had loose siding, that was not installed properly to begin with, We spent several hours, with re-nailing the loose siding, with a air compressor Framing nail gun so the siding would not fly away. We did run into a section on the front of the home, we did forget to install, one section of Gutter when he ask about it, we responded very quickly, the head foreman of the Gutter Installation Company, went out to see about this with [Member Name Removed] about the Gutters. On the painting of the Flashing, which we usual do not do. [Member Name Removed] did want the Flashing Painted and We Painted the flashing, as he requested, we did miss one area, but is was completed the following day. I did go out to the Home several times, to look at the work that was being done, we completed a lot of prep work on this home, this did take a little more time than it should have but it was done correctly. We Used a top line Caulking, Primer & Paint and [Member Name Removed] agrees the house looks good. The House was large two story, we had a lot of work on some extremely dangerous area's where the men had to wear a harness to keep from falling, they were on the harness for (3) Days, this was on the back side of the home, at the chimney area. I would like for any Angie's List customers to take a look at this Home, it looks very good and the homeowners selected the correct colors and were great to work with. Sure there was some delays, when we found more rotten wood, we had to get an approval from the Customer, then the Material, had to get the material at a Lumber Supplier and go back out the next day, to the home to install it, the Painters had to prep it in, then apply (2) Coats of Paint. so yes this took more time that usual. We try our best to do this customer and all customers to get have a good professional Paint Job and this happened here. We hate to have a dissatisfied Customer, We did not get any money on this job, No Deposit, Pay when Completed and YES he paid the Invoice when it was due.
